https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holocene_glacial_retreat

The Holocene glacial retreat is a geographical phenomenon that involved the global deglaciation of glaciers that previously had advanced during the Last Glacial Maximum. Ice sheet retreat initiated ca. 19,000 years ago and accelerated after ca. 15,000 years ago. The Holocene, starting with abrupt warming 11,700 years ago, resulted in rapid melting of the remaining ice sheets of North America and Europe. The retreat of glaciers altered landscapes in many ways and is currently still acting as a result of climate change.

Want no wall...open borders...anyone and everyone just allowed in 'for a better life'?

bambu says;  "be careful what you wish for".
Do you think that the argument(s) against the wall are arguments for open borders?

Yes.
Basically open borders.

Elementary logic;

No proper, impenetrable Israel-style fence/wall is in place now and hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants are simply 'walking' over the border every few years.
People in favour of no wall are indeed arguing for what's in place now to continue.
Just out of curiousity, do you know how long the Israeli border is?

Nowhere near as long as the Mexican border?

How would you seal the Mexican border other than with an impenetrable wall/fence?

Quote
“It is a virtual certainty that you will fight on a battlefield for America at some point in your life. You will lead soldiers in combat. It will happen,” Pence said.

“Some of you will join the fight against radical Islamic terrorists in Afghanistan and Iraq. Some of you will join the fight on the Korean Peninsula and in the Indo-Pacific where North Korea continues to threaten the peace, and an increasingly militarized China challenges our presence in the region.”

He warned: “Some of you may even be called upon to serve in this hemisphere ... When that day comes, I know you will move to the sound of the guns.”

Given that we  haven't had a battlefield in Korea for decades and "an increasingly militarized China" spends less than a third of what we spend, annually, this is pretty ominous.

In the last 45 years, a grand total of one US soldier has been killed in Korea by a North Korean, unless they wandered into North Korean territory. I sure hope Pence doesn't mean battlefield over there. Or in Venezuela, no matter how much Uncle Joe wants it as badly as Donny.

Pence is hoping that making a battlefield over there will somehow keep him out of a cell over here.

Scratch a little bit of that republican belligerence away and you see revealed the vast republican cowardice lying beneath.

No, President Trump, China will not be paying for the bailouts of the farmers hurt by your tariffs. The American people will pay for those in addition to paying for the tariffs themselves.

A Guide to Statistics on Historical Trends in Income Inequality

Quote
The broad facts of income inequality over the past six decades are easily summarized:

The years from the end of World War II into the 1970s were ones of substantial economic growth and broadly shared prosperity.
Incomes grew rapidly and at roughly the same rate up and down the income ladder, roughly doubling in inflation-adjusted terms between the late 1940s and early 1970s.

The income gap between those high up the income ladder and those on the middle and lower rungs — while substantial — did not change much during this period.

Beginning in the 1970s, economic growth slowed and the income gap widened.

Income growth for households in the middle and lower parts of the distribution slowed sharply, while incomes at the top continued to grow strongly.

The concentration of income at the very top of the distribution rose to levels last seen 90 years ago (during the “Roaring Twenties”).
Wealth — the value of a household’s property and financial assets, minus the value of its debts — is much more highly concentrated than income. The best survey data show that the share of wealth held by the top 1 percent rose from just under 30 percent in 1989 to nearly 39 percent in 2016, while the share held by the bottom 90 percent fell from just over 33 percent to less than 23 percent over the same period.

Texas and abortions:

This story will be written in multiple other states, soon. And if SCOTUS overturns Roe v Wade, it will go national.

The forumites who would learn most from your income inequality links are the ones least likely to read them.  Right now in America, few are turning off their filters.  I can remember a conservative relative who subscribed to Mother Jones, just so he could get a different side.  That's a vanishing breed.

Democrats have placed the issue squarely at the center of their agenda, in hope of widening the gender gap between the parties and energizing progressive voters around reproductive rights.

With the new laws facing legal challenges that could ultimately land in the supreme court, social issues and the judiciary loom heavily in a campaign season that has so far has centered on the economy and the character of President Donald Trump.

“The last few days of unprecedented energy against abortion bans sent a signal that women everywhere are watching all of this with eyes wide open,” said Amanda Thayer, deputy national communications director of Naral Pro-Choice America, a group on the front line of the fight.

“This anti-choice movement is Trump’s anti-choice movement, and it’s clear that the radical fringe is winning any internal argument about how far to push.”

Extreme positions can hurt the GOP platform, sucking away younger women and Independents.
