Order restored in Hong Kong

https://www.cnn.com/2019/06/13/asia/hong-kong-violence-umbrella-intl-hnk/index.html

Temporarily.

As I was saying:
https://www.cnn.com/asia/live-news/hong-kong-protests-june-16-intl-hnk/index.html

Quote
Close to 2 million people descended on Hong Kong's streets on Sunday, Civil Human Rights Front (CHRF), the organizers of the protests, estimate.

According to CHRF, those numbers are unprecedented. Police estimated that the 338,000 people followed the protest's original route.

In a statement released by the group Sunday night, CHRF said demonstrations will continue until the government withdraws the extradition bill in its entirety, releases arrested protesters and withdraws all charges, retracts the characterization of the protests as a "riot" and forces Chief Executive Carrie Lam to resign.

"Should the government refuse to respond, only more Hong Kongers will strike tomorrow," CHRF said.

Just a bit of difference between those two numbers. Of course, neither group has a motive for causing the numbers to be higher or lower. But the photos are quite impressive.

Wow! 55 million and more were without power. Five countries impacted.

Mine? What mine?

Not that missiles are not still a problem.

What does it tell us that the American public have yet to see one shred of credible evidence that Iran directed these latest attacks?   Pompeo and Bolt-head are enemies of truth and reason, like so many in the Washington cesspool.

In the words of Roman Senator and historian Tacitus:

Truth is confirmed by inspection and delay; falsehood by haste and uncertainty.

US opens new mass facility in Texas for migrant children

“All the new facilities will be considered temporary emergency shelters, so they won’t be subject to state child welfare licensing requirements.”

What could possibly go wrong?

And why would anybody suspect them of ulterior motives not in the children's best interests?!

And shit.   Two words for you fellahs in "late middle age":   chia seeds.

As for keenwa, I wish it could have stayed in Peru.   I won't even say what a quinoa seed looks like after it's cooked.   (sideshow Bob shudder)

Didn't Trump say something in a speech about "transparency"?

Not that His Transparency has ever read Tacitus or could tell you who he was.

Nice clear exposition of how history repeats itself.

Sen. Cotton will be cheering the amnesiacs onward.

Post picks on Cotton....

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2019/06/16/danger-tom-cotton/

BTW, kudos to Japan and Germany for maintenance of some skepticism regarding the grainy and ambiguous video purported to be Iranians removing a limpet mine.  Why are more officials not shouting the obvious question:  why do all the eyewitnesses on the tanker report a projectile attack, not a mine??

Cotton's "two strikes and we're done" idiocy makes even John Bolton look relatively sane.

MAGA

I'm just gonna leave this nearby....

https://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/opinion/readers/2016/05/26/how-much-does-welfare-cost-average-taxpayer/84917512/

Quote
n 2012, the average American taxpayer making $50,000 per year paid just $36 towards the food stamps program and about $6 per year for the rest of the social safety net programs. Republicans say this is too much — cut it!

Corporate welfare, however, costs the average American family a staggering $6,000 a year in subsidies to Republican-friendly big business. The bottom-line is that American families are paying $6,000 or more per year to subsidize giant transnational corporations that are already making billions in profit. In the past decade alone, corporations have doubled their profits on our buck.
