Observation from today’s Wall Street Journal editorial page:

If the President wins re-election, perhaps he should write a thank-you note to Colin Kaepernick and Nike.

No one will give two shits in a week except for the professional right wing rage machine which is all in on Trump anyway.

I too once met a girl in Central Park, but it is not much to remember. What I remember is the time John Wayne killed three men with a carbine as he was falling to the dusty street in Stagecoach, and the time the kitten found Orson Welles in the doorway in The Third Man.

The other great line from the same editorial was

Nike folded faster than the New York Giant offensive line.

She voted against an increase.

---Ocasio-Cortez voted not to fund better facilities and conditions for the illegal immigrants we detain. So if she wants to know who is responsible for wanting to continue the current conditions in these facilities all she has to do is look in the mirror, and look at other lawmakers who support her position. She can make excuses, but one has to legitimately question whose best interests she is looking out for.---

Just making certain nothing works so dems can win in 2020.

Asshole.

“Phantom Fireworks CEO Bruce Zoldan, whose company is donating fireworks for Trump’s Salute to America event, told TPM that “this should have been planned a lot sooner than it was.”

“Typically, a show like this should be done six months in advance for preparation and planning,” Zoldan said.”

I've heard so much tachycardia about "open borders" that I've mulled it over and decided, fuck yeah, let's have open borders.  Anyone can come in, visit relatives, hang out for a while, take in the sights.  All we really need to protect jobs and social safety nets is not offer them to our visitors.  Only those who sign up for a work permit in industries that presently have a hiring shortage, and have one issued to them, will be able to get a job.  Anyone hiring a worker without the permit will be prosecuted, no exceptions, not even luxury hotel magnates.  If you cross the border and get run over by a soccer mom, you get the same emergency medical treatment any foreign visitor would receive.  No other social services.  If you have a legitimate need for asylum, you get a temporary stay permit until you are processed through the court.

The permitting process and enforcement against illegal hiring can be easily paid for by the billions saved in leaving the borders wide open.

That makes too much sense. You can’t scare enough racist and xenophobic assholes about the invading hordes of brown people...

The Dow industrials gained more than 150 points to set a record Wednesday before Thursday’s Independence Day holiday. The index surpassed its Oct. 3 milestone soon after the opening bell and became the last of the major U.S. benchmarks to hit a record this year.

GOP and supporters just don’t give a shit...

https://www.mcsweeneys.net/articles/before-you-call-out-our-hypocrisy-let-us-remind-you-that-we-dont-care

This is why I say it is not hypocrisy - they aren't going against espoused beliefs. They never espoused beliefs. They said whatever self-serving shit came into their heads.

Normally, McSweeney's is satire. This time, they are just saying aloud what the GOP "leadership" believes.

And the faithful followers, like Ward and Kiiid.

Quote

"We’re totally cool with the whole concentration camp thing, just as long as they’re not called “concentration camps.” We’re also fine with being fascists, so long as you don’t actually use the f-word. It forces us to confront our cognitive dissonance, and we can’t have that.

We’re the people that elected a man who advocated for violence against protestors, asked a foreign power to meddle in our elections, and was caught on tape uttering the words “Grab ‘em by the pussy” — and then stuck with him through all the high crimes and misdemeanors. Because he’s hurting people, and we want him to hurt those people. That’s the point.

So next time you think of pulling an Aaron Sorkin and whipping out Leviticus to show how the Bible actually tells us to welcome immigrants as one of our own, please stop. We’re aware of our hypocrisy. We just don’t care."
