Schism? What schism?

I am reminded of Jeeves's aunt Annie. In Right Ho, Jeeves, Jeeves tells Bertie that whenever family disputes became unsolvable or reached a crisis point, they would invite their aunt Annie to visit. In the mutual antagonism spurred by her presence, all bad feelings in the family would be resolved.

Donald Trump is aunt Annie.

Why the GOP is so eager to turn the USA over to Putin

Actually, many constitutional adherents would have problems with SB 27.  If you get a moment, read Justice Stevens opinion on Thornton, which is a case that maybe broadly sets a precedent about states altering qualifications for federal races.  Don't get wrong - a constitutional amendment that enacts the tax returns requirement for ALL states would get around Thornton and for sure be a healthy tonic for democracy.

Also, mind blown this morning by a NEW REPORT THAT ACTUALLY EXPLAINS CLEARLY WTF "IRISH BACKSTOP" MEANS...

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-britain-eu-backstop-factbox/factbox-what-is-the-irish-backstop-at-the-heart-of-brexit-impasse-idUSKCN1UL265?il=0

Thank you for the backstop article.

I agree the proposition is shaky constitutionally. Would a Californian who claimed that he only votes for candidates who will not release their returns under any circumstances succeed in arguing that such a law deprived him of his right to vote by removing any candidate he would potentially select? Possibly, even likely. If Defective Don isn’t a party, he’ll be harder to subpoena through those proceedings. Even then it would still serve as a further reminder that the Greasy Cheeseburgular is hiding something.

This can be held off on till about two months before primary ballots are scheduled to be printed. In that time the big dirt about money laundering, human trafficking (model biz at its most unethical yields serious kompromat), tax fraud, and insolvency may have already come out. In that case the act can stay tabled.

Trump seems so prone to backfires, so unable to meter the bullying and viciousness, that the Jeeves Aunt effect was inevitable.

At some point, a political party recognizes that the future is either a Hummer or a Tesla, not some quiet majority with a Ford Escape.  Once Democrats see Trump mooning them from his Hummer while it sprays transmission fluid on their lunch, they'll be as tight as a basket of puppies.

From before the midterms...

https://exjournalistsunite.wordpress.com/2018/10/17/accommodation-politics-is-losing-politics-now-we-fight/

The GOP has been running on fear and resentment since the mid ’60s and their victories have predictable results. The GOP wins elections until they fuck up so badly they get thrown out. Then they exploit racial fear, resentment and anger to mobilize their shrinking base and are voted back in to fuck up everything and wreak havoc again.

The Republican Party has reached the point where it is a danger to the republic. The party must be defeated at the polls this year, 2019 and 2020 all across the length and width of our nation. The Democratic messaging must be sharp, accurate and HARD AS FUCK!

The Democrats have to match the GOP intensity, and in this cycle, the Supreme Court fight was some hellacious motivation for the Democratic base. The problem with the polling in this go-round is pollsters measure the responses of likely voters. In that category the GOP should be tightening the spread because they got a resentment bump from Kavanaugh. Why not? Before Kavanaugh they had nowhere to go but up, so a bump is just what it sounds like, a bump.

Last month, 800,000 folks registered to vote in one day. How many of them were considered likely voters? Don’t sleep on the Blue Wave because it is right where it was before Kavanaugh; Dems favored to get the House with a “chance” to get the Senate and that chance was always slim.

The Republican Party has outlived its efficacy and has, in fact, become what its leader accuses the Fourth Estate of being — an enemy of the people. In order for this grand experiment in democracy to continue into the future, its politics must be allowed to evolve to meet the needs of its growing diverse populations, and that is anathema to the GOP. In order to save the nation AND the principles of conservative politics, the GOP must be destroyed.

It must go the way of Carthage. Its structure battered into bits, the rubble burned to ash, the ashes salted and sowed into the earth, never to grow again.

The “ notorious RBG “ speaks;

Court packing through an act of Congress would be constitutional, as the Constitution does not mandate a specific number of Supreme Court justices. However, it would still undermine the stability of our republic while making the Supreme Court as partisan as could be, and it has historically been avoided for that reason.
If one party packs the court upon taking power, the opposing party could pack the court even more once it returns to power.
Democrats who support the practice are foolishly thinking about their short-term policy interests alone and suffering from tunnel vision.

Ginsburg further upset leftist radicals this week when she praised Justice Neil Gorsuch and Justice Brett Kavanaugh as "decent and smart." Earlier in the month, she applauded Kavanaugh specifically because his staff is entirely female, and the Supreme Court now has more female law clerks than male law clerks for the first time in history.
There is a very important first on the Supreme Court this term, and it's thanks to our new justice, Justice Kavanaugh,"

Ginsburg's comments serve as a stark contrast to the absurd character assassination Kavanaugh faced from leftists last year.

Long may she live!

I wonder if there were any words in the Washington Examiner about the undermining the stability of our republic and of making the court overly partisan when Mitch McConnell stole a supreme court pick from a sitting democratically elected President.

Doubt it.

In case there were any here who doubted Red's stunning lack of intellectual honesty,.the italicized quote after the RBG speaks is not a quote from her even though it is deliberately designed to appear that way. It is a quote from an editorial in the right wing Washington Examiner.
