The trump years are instructive in that they give us a window on how various governments would act if there were no American power that could not be overcome by a small helping of bribery and bluster. The republicans finally forcing the government into the bathtub has shown us that much so far.

Domestically, the shittiest White House and Senate Majority ever have gotten themselves into mid to upper thirties levels of support.

Fortunately for them, they are well staffed, clear eyed, with high morale, and prospects of smooth sailing with only tailwinds behind them. Things should pick up for them in the near future.

Really, how much worse can it get? How much worse can these guys make it?

There is no "narrow focus."  We were talking about Israel and the Palestinians.  You want to talk about China and Xinjiang, or Russia, or Eritrea, those are different discussions waiting to be had  I don't see much point comparing or confounding different countries.

Really, I think all countries should be held to the same standards: human rights, international law, universal morality.  And should be held accountable for their failures and violations.

Have you ever wondered why so many want to come to the shiny shores if it is so terrible?

No one said America is terrible.
You simplistically painted all Muslim societies as primitive, medieval, murderous.  I merely pointed out that the US is the one rampaging around the globe killing people.  Like every society, the US has its share of problems.  Wars abroad; incarceration rates, racism and failed drug prohibition at home for starters.
Not to mention bigoted assholes like luee who think America is so great it should be reserved for them and people who look like them. And who never get the disconnect between their vision of America and how they think of and treat the people actually trying to live out that vision.

Huh! The US is the most diverse nation in the history of the world unlike Muslim countries or any of the bannana republics. Does the typical American look more like Donald Trump or BHO? The US needs bright people who can obey laws and can assimilate.
To the extent there is anything we can call a typical American, more and more that person looks like Obama. And that scares your pathetic, racist little excuse for a soul positively shitless.

Watching the rightwing freak out over the NYTimes 1619 Project.....
Just who is “ freaking out”?
History is History.
But a better question might be how come inner city blacks, 400 years later, are still enslaved by democrat -run municipal governments that provide them with substandard living conditions and dysfunctional public schools?
Nice dodge.

And amusing attempt at exculpating a party and a political philosophy that for the last 50 years has treated inner cities and the African American community with at best malign neglect and at worst outright hostility.

"Banana republics"

Helping to underscore your bigotry.

No, you are allowing your disappointment in the not so great hrc losing an election to turn into a raving anti-american lunatic. The Donald will pass but not the USA. live in Honduras for a year see what I mean.

No, the typical American looks like neither.

And no, the US is not "the most diverse nation" currently, let alone in the history of the world, Luee. Not ethnically, not linguistically, and not racially. We're the largest nation that can also claim diversity, but that is a totally different issue.

Your jingoism is showing.

And it's somewhat ugly.

OK same language but what other nation is #2 in diversity? Probably significant numbers of every religion and nationality in the book.

This is a violent primitive culture arising from the shadows of the dark ages promoting suicidal mass murder, rape and pillage.

And yet it's America who is involved in one endless war (on Terror!), has two wars deep into their 2nd decade, endlessly gets into wars, is the biggest arms dealer in the world, has military bases round the world, resorted to rendition and torture when frightened, etc.  How advanced and civilized!

Violence, mass murder, pillage ... what's more American than that?

Serious question.
Luee, have you ever been in a Muslim country?
Have you ever been inside a mosque?

I was there on 9-11 looking across the river wondering what savages could do something like that. Than hearing OBL calling it a great victory in manhattan. Read about how they prayed to big Mo and hoped to see him soon with the hories. Researched a bit about big Mo the pedophile and the Koran. No, big Mo is not just like Jesus only better. Love thy neighbor is not the same as kill your enemy wherever you find him. Islam is in desperate need of an enlightenment. Do you know you can be executed for just having a bible in many Moslem lands? No thanks not on my itinerary.

Luee is still pissed.

I don't blame him.

Well done graphic.   And rather conservative, actually, on feedback models where methane release (from thawing bogs, permafrost, and coastal methane hydrates) is factored in.   Melting sea ice is also a large feedback factor, as infrared reflective ice surface is lost.   These positive feedback factors (as well as decreased clouds) can all potentially steepen the curve, i.e. accelerate the warming.

You would think the fact that Arrhenius successfully predicted the basic trend in 1896 would lend some credibility to the field of atmospheric physics, but the deniers are pretty much a cult and not responsive to having their internet mythologies debunked.

Australia's Number 1 radio host has a climate change graphic as well.  It's one page and in Giant Block Letters it says "It's A Hoax".  Much easier to read.

So keeping the nukes out of the real crazy religious fanatics is kind of important.

But I understand that others may disagree.

LOL.

It's really no defense of Israel to note that other countries are worse.
And I don't appreciate the insinuation that I'm anti-Israel
If you attack Israel and boycott it while ignoring China's and Russia's crimes, the a claim that you are not anti-Israel seems strained. You are not fighting injustices, you are fighting Israel's injustices, choosing the lesser, more attractive criminal, the easier target.

Israel has earned its attacks, its condemnation for how it treats the Palestinians. But the narrow focus is bogus.

Israel has earned its attacks, but anyone who does so is anti-Israel unless they first criticize China, Russia, the US treatment of Native Americans, etc, etc.

I would say the focus on Israel given the national security importance the country plays in the world's most volatile region is fair.

And as I'm sure you know, China's human rights history has been a bipartisan focus of the US government (unlike Israel's) and Russia is currently being sanctioned in a number of ways by us, despite Trump's protests.
