Re the Colorado faithless elector case:

Quote
Colorado’s current secretary of state, Jena Griswold, decried the ruling:
“This court decision takes power from Colorado voters and sets a dangerous precedent,” she said. “Our nation stands on the principle of one person, one vote.”

Which has little to do with the issue at hand.

Our nation is based on the principle of winner take all.
That gets to the heart of the matter.

The faithless elector concept is interesting.
Usually the electors are long-time party vets whose loyalty isn't in doubt.  Though they get chosen somewhat early in the process and things can get interesting.  Usually if one elector goes rogue, it just becomes a historical footnote.  It's pretty unlikely a faithless elector or two could swing a presidential election.  But we've been having very close elections.  And if maybe a handful or more got together ...

~55,000 vote swing and we would have had 268 EC for Trump and 263 for Clinton, plus 7 faithless electors and three other wannabe faithless electors (one of whom is the current test case). No clear winner, but a suit to prevent it from going to the Senate to decide. Messiness would ensue.

Trump and the GOP will see this most recent set of polls as a distant high water mark as they drift deeper in to a reputational morass of their own making.

https://www.nj.com/politics/2019/08/murphy-administration-staffer-fired-after-anti-semitic-facebook-posts-surface.html

Because you and all the others strangely missed it.

And it's not a joke.

So what?  Some state employee fired off some overheated rhetoric about who a school should be named after, and that we shouldn't give money to Israel, and that U.S. treatment of African Americans was like a holocaust.

And was fired.  I don't know that I'd disagree with everything he said (not being up on the details of NJ politics and school namings), but I see no real problem with firing a recent hire who shows bad judgement.  The bit about sterilizing Ethiopian immigrants sounded like tinfoil hat crazy, and the government is probably better off without the guy.

The real question, since this is a political discussion forum, should be as to the truth of any of his statements.  Even a tinfoil hat guy can be correct, some of the time.

(Please quote my reply in its entirety, if you reply.  Thank you.)

Guess you missed where he headed up the NAACP in his town?

Interesting piece on free speech:

My favorite part is the discussion of Oliver Wendell Holmes and yelling "Fire!" in a crowded theater.

Can you imagine what Republicans would be saying if Obama said this?

Trump is literally saying “you can’t build that!” and is pretending he can use the power of the Federal Government to enforce that order.

Instead Republicans will ignore it (as we all will) because we take it for granted that our “president” is impulsive and dumb and doesn’t know  what he is talking about.

This is where we are now.

Yeah, those trade talks with China are coming right along. Any minute now...

China slaps new tariffs on US.

Oops.

I can't quite figure out what he thinks I was tryiing to confirm.  Nor did I remotely suggest the guy was a suitable leader for the NAACP.  As "tinfoil hat crazy" may have suggested to someone who read my post.  Ham seems to spend a lot of time arguing with his imagination.

kiidcarter8 and Barr's Justice Department have something in common.  They both want to spread the White Supremacist garbage published on VDare.com:

https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/hamedaleaziz/justice-department-immigration-judges-white-nationalist

An email sent from the Justice Department to all immigration court employees this week included a link to an article posted on a white nationalist website that “directly attacks sitting immigration judges with racial and ethnically tinged slurs,” according to a letter sent by an immigration judges union and obtained by BuzzFeed News.

According to the National Association of Immigration Judges, the Justice Department’s Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) sent court employees a link to a blog post from VDare, a white nationalist website, in its morning news briefing earlier this week that included anti-Semitic attacks on judges.
