That closing Ohio Chevy plant is part of GM's cutting 14,700 manufacturing jobs across four plants in the Midwest.

https://www.nj.com/politics/2019/08/murphy-administration-staffer-fired-after-anti-semitic-facebook-posts-surface.html

Because you and all the others strangely missed it.

And it's not a joke.

So what?  Some state employee fired off some overheated rhetoric about who a school should be named after, and that we shouldn't give money to Israel, and that U.S. treatment of African Americans was like a holocaust.

And was fired.  I don't know that I'd disagree with everything he said (not being up on the details of NJ politics and school namings), but I see no real problem with firing a recent hire who shows bad judgement.  The bit about sterilizing Ethiopian immigrants sounded like tinfoil hat crazy, and the government is probably better off without the guy.

The real question, since this is a political discussion forum, should be as to the truth of any of his statements.  Even a tinfoil hat guy can be correct, some of the time

(Please quote my reply in its entirety, if you reply.  Thank you.)

Guess you missed where he headed up the NAACP in his town?
More proof of your confirmation bias.

So what?

I’m a life member of the MAACP since I was fourteen. Haven’t been to a meeting or taken part in the organization in more than twenty years.

Big deal!

This guy is a major league asshole and so fucking what? I’ve known a bunch of assholes in the last forty something years and I’m sure a lot them think I’m an asshole.

The school board thing was crude but where’s the lie? Without knowing the full details and going only on what cited he said if you won’t name a school for a local hero you shouldn’t name a school after a foreign leader it tells the community they have no say and therefore no authority within their own community.

Dude has a way with words and those words got his ass fired. Whaddya want? Guillotine?

They stopped making the CRUZE.  Nothing needs to be known more than this.  GM is deciding what to do with the plant, rather than allowing another company to come in.  So stay tuned (though I am sure if it is up and running again this won't be reported)

Jesus, you are lost.  GM isn't cutting 14,700 jobs in the rustbelt because they decided to stop making the Cruze.

Trump implemented record-breaking tax cuts that blew a $2 trillion hole in the budget and started a trade war he said would be good and easy to win, all moves he promised would revive a lagging manufacturing sector, all big reasons that the region voted for him in 2016.

No, it is not too soon to say that Trump has failed these people. And the idea that the pain felt by that failure can be summarized by paying a few more dollars for sneakers is total idiocy.

They stopped making the CRUZE because they no longer need it to offset the CAFE standards and balance out their big SUVs and pick ups.

Rolling back the regulations cost those workers their jobs...

I feel for them but they fucked up! They believed him and fell for his con.

Btw, that is pretty fucking rich coming from a Trump supporter.

Carrier plant saga lost down the Trumpist memory hole, probably because that didn't turn out quite as well as the Trump propaganda machine would have you believe.

Remember when you thought the "end" was nigh? Any day now (then), the negotiations would be over?! You chided us for our skepticism.

I recall being chided for pointing out that Trump was adding to the deficit contrary to promises, because of course he was soon going to turn his attention to cutting the deficit.

Great. Talk shit and plunge the market and then use that to attack Democrats while laughing at the market losses.

David Frum-

GOP message for 2020: very important to re-elect the president, otherwise you might get some socialist who would order US companies to relocate their international operations whenever he felt in a grouchy mood

They need to take the reward away from anyone who sets fires in the Amazon, by replanting the forest, the scumbags who are starting the fires will not be able to benefit in any way from burning the Amazon forest, they are just making people angry, we need to take away all of the rewards for setting the fires, and we need to punish the people, instead of getting rewarded they need to be punished for setting the fires.

My beloved Brazil! Speak up and stop the deforestation of the Amazon which is 20 per cent of the air we breathe. The home of our people and our fauna should be protected. The Amazon is ours, is everyone’s! Shak

There must not be any rewards for the people who are setting the fires, there must only be punishment for them instead.

Salute,

http://gmauthority.com/blog/gm/chevrolet/cruze/chevrolet-cruze-sales-numbers/

The Chevrolet Cruze sales slump is directly attributable to the discontinuation of the model for the North American market, since both the GM Lordstown plant in the U.S. and the GM Ramos Arizpe plant in Mexico ended Cruze production in March.

https://www.cnn.com/2019/08/23/americas/brazil-beef-amazon-rainforest-fire-intl/index.html

If you like breathing air with oxygen, stop eating meat, especially beef from Brazil.  I think this puts the conservation issue in terms of such naked self-interest that even a Republican might be able to grasp it.  Every nation on the planet has a fundamental interest in offering Brazil (and the rest of Amazonia, and also rainforests in Indonesia and South Asia) economic incentives to keep their rainforests intact and healthy.
