Yeah, those trade talks with China are coming right along. Any minute now...

https://www.cnn.com/2019/08/23/business/china-tariffs-trade-war/index.html

China slaps new tariffs on US.

Oops.

Sir, as you were asked - please hold all comments til the end

Thanks

Remember when you thought the "end" was nigh? Any day now (then), the negotiations would be over?! You chided us for our skepticism.

And I am so sure that you always waited until the end of any of Obama's negotiations before judging them and him. Yeah, like that ever happened!

No, Kid, people are suffering NOW from what Trump is doing - and not doing.

If it turns out wonderfully well and all those folks are made whole and the economy moves forward without a recession caused in good measure by Trump's trade war, I will be more than happy to admit I was wrong.

You may have noticed, I do that. (Nah, you probably glossed right over it.) You might try it sometime. Your president doesn't! (Biden's not much better! No wonder you like him.)

Yeah, man - 5 bucks more for sneakers.  That's $2.50 for each foot.

Your usual level of compassion and comprehension are on display.

You have no compassion and no comprehension.

There's never a headline when people are hired

Ohio Chevy plant....

Steel workers......

Good Lord.

That closing Ohio Chevy plant is part of GM's cutting 14,700 manufacturing jobs across four plants in the Midwest.

kiidcarter8 rolls his eyes, talks more about something he heard about paying $5 more for shoes on a cable news show...

They stopped making the CRUZE.  Nothing needs to be known more than this.  GM is deciding what to do with the plant, rather than allowing another company to come in.  So stay tuned (though I am sure if it is up and running again this won't be reported)

I'm sure you are full of shit.

But you insist on providing fresh examples daily.

I recall being chided for pointing out that Trump was adding to the deficit contrary to promises, because of course he was soon going to turn his attention to cutting the deficit.

LOL:

https://thehill.com/policy/finance/458232-deficits-to-exceed-12-trillion-through-2029-cbo

Kid will insist that it is too soon to judge and that Trump will turn it around "real soon now." Just give him the full 8 years he said it would take him!

That way, when we rightly fire his ass in 2020, when the deficits are not gone by 2024 Kid will say "if only you had kept Trump - he just needed four more years and he'd have wiped it out like he promised!"

http://gmauthority.com/blog/gm/chevrolet/cruze/chevrolet-cruze-sales-numbers/

The Chevrolet Cruze sales slump is directly attributable to the discontinuation of the model for the North American market, since both the GM Lordstown plant in the U.S. and the GM Ramos Arizpe plant in Mexico ended Cruze production in March.

The sales slump is due to drivers moving away from sedans to SUVs, crossovers and pickup trucks.

If you want to raise cattle, go raise cattle in Texas, and in Nevada, USA, there is no reason to burn down the Amazon for beef. We can still have beef, just buy it from an area where people are not destroying the rain forests. Support American beef, and save the rain forest. Maybe the American ranchers can donate money to declare the Amazon to be an international park and preservation.

Oddly enough, nobody got hurt when President Bartlett did it.

Your continued lack of empathy is stark.

And what you don't seem to be grasping is that nobody in this country is winning from this. The South Americans are benefiting, I grant you.

Australia on RED alert.

https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/national/manus-island-new-home-for-australian-navy-as-chinas-influence-in-the-pacific-islands-grows/news-story/ec9dc7b253cf8fb54067ecbebe3ce928

Manus Island new home for Australian navy as China’s influence in the Pacific Islands grows

It played an important role during WWII. Now Australia is reopening a forgotten PNG naval base amid tensions with China.

#####

Asylum seekers in detention moved out...Navy moved in.
"The reds are coming"

Exclusive: Australia has taken its biggest strategic step since World War II to protect our north with the first stage opening in Papua New Guinea of a refurbished joint naval base that was once as big as Pearl Harbor and could again see Australian and US warships based offshore.

For the past year, defence officials from PNG and Australia and contributions from the US have been quietly rejuvenating the strategically positioned deepwater port of Lombrum on the tiny Los Negros Island in Manus Province.

The move was prompted by growing anxiety over China’s aggressive military push in the region, notably including an offer by Beijing to take over four largely mothballed World War II era ports in PNG including Lombrum and military bases in Fiji and Vanuatu.

China shows its hand in the intensifying competition with the US to sail unmanned warships

China has launched a new "world-leading unmanned warship" that is supposedly ready for combat, Chinese media reports.

The JARI multi-purpose unmanned combat vessel, a new product of the state-owned China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, is 50 feet (15 metres) in length and displaces 20 tons. Chinese media reports that this ship is capable of conducting the same missions as China's Type 052 destroyers, namely air-defence, anti-ship and anti-submarine missions.

Chinese military observers refer to China's latest development as a "mini Aegis-class destroyer" because of its radars, vertically-launched missiles and torpedoes, the Global Times reports, referencing the US Navy Arleigh Burke-class destroyers, many of which are equipped with powerful Aegis radars, surface-to-air missiles, and anti-submarine warfare capabilities.

Hmmm...time for Australia to get nukes, nuke armed subs, ready to turn Beijing, Shanghai into ash at a moment's notice.

It appears Elba's village idiot is spouting idiotic gibberish, much like the desperate dementia-driven dictator wannabe he slavishly follows.

IMO a call to the pen is warranted, and the 25th amendment should start warming up.

"Pen" works there as either metaphor bullpen or as literal federal pen (like Leavenworth).
