As many as 11,800 US military families face deportation issues.

Big number

Maybe we should check closer for citizenship before enlisting military personnel.

We explicitly permit non-citizens to enlist, Kid. So, what is it that you think checking closer for citizenship would accomplish?

Yankguy says protection with some risk is not a good thing.

You've got it backwards, Kids, according to the numbers.

We say "risk, with some protection, is not a good thing."

The deaths from guns in the home are a greater risk than the savings from home invaders.

I know, I know. Bambi doesn't give a damn about facts. Kid's usually in the same boat. But I have this thing about them, so...

Quote
When we checked 2015 FBI figures, for example, there were 13,455 reported homicides, and 102 of those happened during burglaries. That’s 0.76 percent of all homicides — but there was no mention of the term home invasion, or the weapon used to commit the homicide.
...
A 2010 report from the U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics noted that "between 2003 and 2007, approximately 2.1 million household burglaries were reported to the FBI each year on average. Household burglaries ending in homicide made up 0.004% of all burglaries during that period."

That’s about 86 people killed during a burglary annually, but the 0.004 percent is from all burglaries, not just ones classified as home invasions.

The study also does not specify a gun was the murder weapon, but rather counts every homicide regardless of how it was committed.
[/quote

Quote
In the United States, suicides outnumber homicides almost two to one. Perhaps the real tragedy behind suicide deaths—about 30,000 a year, one for every 45 attempts—is that so many could be prevented. Research shows that whether attempters live or die depends in large part on the ready availability of highly lethal means, especially firearms.

A study by the Harvard School of Public Health of all 50 U.S. states reveals a powerful link between rates of firearm ownership and suicides. Based on a survey of American households conducted in 2002, HSPH Assistant Professor of Health Policy and Management Matthew Miller, Research Associate Deborah Azrael, and colleagues at the School’s Injury Control Research Center (ICRC), found that in states where guns were prevalent—as in Wyoming, where 63 percent of households reported owning guns—rates of suicide were higher. The inverse was also true: where gun ownership was less common, suicide rates were also lower.

The lesson? Many lives would likely be saved if people disposed of their firearms, kept them locked away, or stored them outside the home. Says HSPH Professor of Health Policy David Hemenway, the ICRC’s director: “Studies show that most attempters act on impulse, in moments of panic or despair. Once the acute feelings ease, 90 percent do not go on to die by suicide.”

o

Quote
Guns can kill you in three ways: homicide, suicide, and by accident. Owning a gun or having one readily accessible makes all three more likely. One meta-analysis ”found strong evidence for increased odds of suicide among persons with access to firearms compared with those without access and moderate evidence for an attenuated increased odds of homicide victimization when persons with and without access to firearms were compared.” The latter finding is stronger for women, a reminder that guns are also a risk factor for domestic violence.

The same thing is true for accidents. States with more guns see more accidental deaths from firearms, and children ages 5 to 14 are 11 times more likely to be killed with a gun in the US compared to other developed countries, where gun ownership is much less common. About half of gun accident fatalities happen to people under 25, and some recent analyses suggest that the official count of gun accident deaths among children is understated.

(a) Politifact
(b) Harvard School of Public Health
(c) Vox, citing the Annals of the American College of Physicians, Private Guns, Public Health, and the American Journal of Public Health.

"A study comparing abused women who survived with those killed by their abuser found that 51 percent of women who were killed had a gun in the house. By contrast, only 16 percent of women who survived lived in homes with guns."

Hence the reversal of what you claimed had been said, Kid. And why Bambi, as is so often the case, doesn't know what the fuck he is talking about.

Hey, Bambi, if you want to convince us that Australia would be better off with US levels of weapons, go find your own stats!

Factbox: From phone makers to farmers, the toll of Trump's trade wars

A big economic disaster is looming and not a word from the dems in an election year? China is down to 2% of agricultural buying from pre-2017. Farms of all types are closing down or at risk. Duh!

Huh!
---Several of the party’s leading presidential hopefuls have railed against Trump’s trade war, accusing the president of being erratic in confronting China while causing needless economic pain. But they are also arguing for a tougher approach to China than Trump has pursued. It’s a message that may be hard to reconcile with their vows to ease or reverse the damage caused by the widening trade war.---

I would like to recommend a remedial reading course.

LUEE

You posted zero link - how was anyone supposed to read that paragraph when you didn't post it or a hyperlink to it??

Some of the Democratic candidates I've heard have plans to help the family farm which include antitrust laws, reducing overproduction, paying farmers to practice conservation,  and opening up soybean markets and other exports.  And you still post no link to your out of context paragraph.   You should look up Warren's Agri proposal.

LIBERTÉ: Paris celebrates the 75th anniversary of its liberation from German occupation with a public parade in 1940s dress from Porte d’Orleans to Denfert-Rochereau.

Long live France!

Saving the Jews, and liberating France, are two things that we as Americans can be very proud of my Grandparents' generation for achieving. Our Grandparents saved the world. May God bless the USA.
