In the old days the Monks used to make wine and cheese, etc, and then they used the money to help the poor and the needy, and to help to educate the children, etc.

Today the wine and cheese makers still help the homeless, and they still help to educate the children, but it is through paying taxes, though many donate to charity too, and of course they employ people, etc.

I bet a lot of Monks still make wine and cheese today.
