But its tough to build an offense around a running back when your O-line sucks.
Barkley (even with OBJ missing the last four games) managed 2000 yards behind that shitty O-line.
They traded for an All-Pro RT (Kevin Zeitler) and their starting rookie LT (Will Hernandez) who they drafted right after Barkley is only getting bigger and better. They are one starting RG away from a standout line.
The defense will be much much better (it was the absolute worst but still) with a run-stuffing nose tackle in Lawrence and the new CBs (the most important position on defense - the firm of Baker Love and Beal) and safeties (Peppers and the old man Bethea) will give Bettcher's front seven more time to manage a meager pass rush at least. Markus Golden we see you. Even sending a safety to blitz the QB once-in-a-while knowing the CBs can play man coverage.
Eli/Jones are gonna hand the ball off (and play-action short passes to WRs who don't drop the ball - Hello Golden "hands" Tate) the whole game.
The weaknesses will still be pass rush on defense and deep threat on offense. But those are luxuries that can be added the following season with the most cap room in the NFL.
That should scare the rest of the division.
It always amazes me that people confuse individual achievements within the context of team sports.
I blame fantasy sports.
Giants had 5 wins last year, with Eli, OBJ and Saquon. That's a lot of offensive fire power.
But they sucked as a team.
There was a reason they had the #6 pick to use on Eli's successor.
And Barkely is a high performance player, there's no question about that, and is one of the reason I comped him to a Bentley. He's special.
But 700 yards of the 2,000 were passing yards.
But i'm sure you're right Opie will scare the rest of the NFC East, and lead his team to post-season wins, as he has, twice in his 14 year career.
As for Jones he may be great, I've no idea, I didn;t see the Senior Bowl, but the point you seem to miss is that he was the 4th ranked QB in the draft and depending upon your source, anywhere from the 40th to 80th ranked player in the draft, which suggests he would likely have been there at 17, and maybe at 37 in the 2nd round. He was a huge stretch at 6, and DG might have capitalized on his brilliance by accumulating extra picks by trading down.
