Browns are going to be fun to watch.

And good.

G-Men got a pretty decent package for OBJ. (1st 3rd and safety Peppers)

But they should have traded him last year.
That's a lot of offensive skill talent. I did not expect the Browns to be in Go For Broke mode now. But adding OBJ, Richardson and Vernon... I think they eye the decay of the Steelers and the status of the Ravens and think there is a huge hole to exploit.

AFC North up for grabs and Browns look like they got a guy who can make tough catches.

Earl Thomas rumored to be up next.

Mind you as a Cleveland fan I fully expect either catastrophic injuries and a 5 - 11 record, or a fumble by Jarvis Landry while twisting into the end zone with the game winning touchdown with a minute left in the AFC Championship game.

Not good Gettleman.

Quote
Gettleman never completely tamped down trade rumors that swirled last year about Beckham, who was in the late stages of his rookie contract. But Gettleman invested heavily in Beckham on a five-year extension worth $95 million -- he made more than $21 million last season -- a deal that seemed to cement the receiver’s future with the Giants. And now, a year into the deal, it’s over in New York, and Beckham will leave behind a whopping $16 million in “dead money” on the salary cap this year.

That will sure help them to bounce back this season. Eli all the way!

Since today everything becomes official....

... both trades were actually processed by the NFL as one deal. The net effect was that the Browns received Beckham and Vernon in exchange for Zeitler, Peppers, a 1st-round pick, (17) and a 3rd-round pick (95).

Odell trade

Giants have the #6, and thanks to Odell the #17,  and the #97

Trade up to #1. Get Kyler Murray.

Fuckin A, Gmen

Long overdue - and they get a Pro Bowler (and a local) in Peppers.

Picks are fucking gravy

Eli starts 2 more seasons.

And thanks, Jets for keeping Leveon away from Ravens.

Peppers is going into year 3. He's a former first rounder but not a Pro-Bowl player yet.  He's like the Eli Apple of the Browns.  But hopefully better.

Bethea - the other safety the Giants acquired - is the former Pro Bowl player.

I would say just going by fan posts that something like 3 out of every 4 NY Giant fans hate the trade.  And of those who hate the trade there is a percentage i can't determine that has jumped ship completely knowing the team has given up on a generational player in his prime.  Maybe 10%.  I think the Giants figure they will regain that 10% when they start winning again... but that won't be in 2019.  They are 32nd in Active Money on the cap and 1st in dead money.  They're essentially paying guys to play elsewhere this year.

2019 is dead before it begins.  It's a tank and purge salary season ripped out of the pages of the NBA.

2020 on the other hand, will see the Giants with some $80 mil in cap space.

Two faith-based questions.

Do you have faith this regime can find Eli's successor?
Do you have faith this regime can spend the cap space wisely?

After watching the about-face on Collins and Beckham... faith is in short supply.

I happen to think the Giants will be better after the Odell trade than they would have been trying to win 8 games with offensive weapons and no defense and an immobile QB

The Giants are making some strange moves. Are they trying to pressure Eli to retire? Or, is there something that is clearly beyond our view?

Either way, it looks like the ownership may be heavily involved.

My current reading of the tea-leaves:

- Giants have said recently they're following the Kansas City model; draft a QB have him sit for some time and watch an accomplished veteran do the job.
- Giants have recently said they've acquired draft capital in the Odell deal.  Meaning at #6 and #17 they're planning to trade up to 1 or 2 or 3 or 4. (This might not happen until the draft itself as they're watching for who is trying to trade up to #5)
- They're taking a QB.  (They SAY they like Haskins but this is the time of year everyone lies.)
- Eli will remain and start for half the season then hand over the reins to the newly-minted starter with the short apprenticeship.
- Every other pick the giants make next month will be on the defensive side of the ball or O-line depth/competition.
- Giants will keep targeting bargain bin Free Agents.  A WR is the priority.

But i could be wrong.  Maybe the Giants like Rosen more than Haskins or Murray.
