That was one pissed off set of Buckeyes.

I wonder if the talking heads and distracted aggrieved coaches who should actually be worrying about their own teams pissing and moaning about how the IU and SMU results mean the Committee put the wrong teams in noticed that the team that looked overmatched in all aspects of the game was Tennessee. IU and SMU, despite the final scores, played pretty well defensively. IU offense was clearly outclassed by the OLotPT defense, and SMU QB was not ready for prime time, and the Ds wore down from the pounding, but the Ds played well enough to win. Tennessee defense got its doors blown off.

In my view, the results do not invalidate the decision. IU and SMU were one loss teams in the regular season.  Mississippi and Alabama were three loss teams. I do not care how much steak you eat, if you do not eat your peas would do not get dessert.

The first round games at the higher seeds were a waste of time.
9,10,11,and 12 each were blown out.
This is the 12 team format to settle everything on the field?
What a laugh.
The four bye teams got a week off to rest and train while  5-8 teams risked injuries to prove what we all k new would be the 8 real playoff caliber teams.

This year is not next year.

The 12 team College Football Playoff was stillborn this weekend.
A total failure.
The four teams eliminated had no worthy resume and were soundly beaten.

Of the eight remaining Arizona State and Boise State will be the next pretenders to fall.

The remaining six are the top Bona fides.
We do not need committees to stage faux playoffs to find them.

And to my loyal Ohio State  friends it is time to concede beating Michigan is the NOT what defines a successful season.

Bo and Woody are long gone but the Buckeyes are in the Rose Bowl anyway.
And a shot at a NATTY is a possibility.

But please send congrats to the maize and blue as they fight fight for a win against Alabama in the Relia  Quest Bowl.

it was 19.2 but so what?
Indiana and Clemson were out classed with late garbage points making the scores seem more competitive.
The OSU and PSU cruised.
Maybe if Boise State and ASU had been correctly  seeded the games might have been closer but the revised 8 teams would still be a long way from national championship consideration with the xception of Texas.

I apologize for my lack of clarity. I was referring to the years where there were four playoff teams, not this year. From the NYT/The Athletic:

Quote
Though last year's semifinals were close, in the four-team Playoff era (2014-23), the average margin of victory in the first round was 17.9 points. Add national title games, and the margin was 18.6. The average spread in this year's first round was 19.3 points. Worse, but not drastically different.

And of little relevance to the harebrained seeding to disguise the simple fact that adding 8 teams to the top 4 does nothing to enhance the old BCS formula ( except for selling more tickets).

A position you will ignore if the #6 team wins the championship.

Not if the true seeding does not include Automatic Conference Champions [/]
With expanding conference sizes the cup cake games should be decreased and greater emphasis placed on strength of schedule  in ranking teams

Strength of schedule is plenty emphasized. Just not if you lose the easy ones.

Does the NFL use a Strength of Schedule formula to set its playoff brackets?
the NFL uses a form of strength of schedule to set the REGULAR SEASON .The worse a team does the more lenient its schedule is for the next season.

The title of National Champs will be decided on the field and not by a computer program or AI committee of experts.
Never has and never will. The 12 team playoff is just an extension of past practices and not as accurate.
