People are now talking;

"Diversity prioritised over fighting fires". LAFD was mentioned.
Something about only 5% of women fighting fires.
Who is talking?

Tell me, since everyone, male, female, white, black, Asian, whatever, has to take and pass the same tests, including the physical requirements, why would diversity result in a less effective fire fighting force? Why are you not just swapping out the least qualified white male for the most qualified African American or female,.which should make the force stronger. Unless you believe that the talents that make up good firefighters are distributed disproportionately to white males.

This should explain it for you.

https://nypost.com/2025/01/09/opinion/our-leaders-praise-diversity-without-prioritizing-what-the-public-really-needs/
It does not. It is just an opinion piece from a Murdoch rag that starts out taking Bass to task for being on a trip when the fires started, which presupposes a required level of precognition of an elected official that i doubt anyone possesses,  and then disappears behind a firewall. I will ask again: unless you believe ability and skill is centralized more heavily in white males than other groups, why would diversity result in a less skilled, less efficient work force?

Employing people purely to meet quotas, is that called 'affirmative action'?   people with lower qualifications/ability/marks in exams etc employed....could indeed result in a less skilled, less efficient work force.
Exactly. That is what happens when you disproportionately hire white males and exclude qualified females and minorities. You replace the best qualified minorities with the least qualified white guys.

DEI is not affirmative action. It is the same test, and the same physical requirements regardless of gender. It is about the recruitment and retention of qualified people, leveling the playing field, adn proper personnel management. Not forced hiring. Well, in the real world outside of your Murdoch based news source.

Bambu would make a good fire break as would any stinking bag of shit. Only people like Bambu are that shitty and should be thrown in the path of raging fires.

Pity there hadn't been more fire breaks, wide ones, tree/vegetation-free ones.
Miles-wide ones.
Better a paved paradise than a firestorm-scorched one.

Imagine trying to get a "concrete the mountains" idea thru the CA state government.
"Concrete the mountains, divert the rainwater into a lake/reservoirs".
"Pump/divert water from where it is plentiful in America to where it is not, like CA".

Wonder if they ever thought that women, who seem to be the Chief and media's main focus, don't want to dress up in very hot clothes, attend firestorms, risk their lives, drag heavy hoses around near the flames and face the flames head on.
Or enter burning buildings, risk their lives, and drag out unconscious humans through flames wearing masks and tanks on their backs.

'Best qualified'?
Thought you said there was only one test...pass or fail.

I would imagine the Chief wouldn't be allowed to sack anyone who already has a job...and nor should she.

Why shouldn't the mayor disappear behind a firewall?  It's important to keep her safe.  And that I decode sentence structure.

Ask the victims, the ones who now have no homes, nowhere to live, no cars, no furniture, no bed to sleep in, no food, maybe not a lot of money, and if they didn't have adequate insurance, no hope.
Ask them if they would prefer miles wide-firebreaks, paved paradise, diverted/pumped water, new lakes built, water in the fire hydrants, a fire truck of two in their street if fire comes...many places never saw a fire truck, mayor cut $17m from the fire dept's budget.
I saw on my tv the victims returning to their land with only rubble on them. Their tears, their absolute despair.

The mayor has to go...along with the governor.

Then they could have a 'pity party' with Trudeau...
...he went down the path of ...charisma, progressive ideals, gender balance, refugee welcomes etc.
Economic challenges, housing crises, and immigration mismanagement etc.
It all ended in tears.

At least one man has been arrested for arson here in California, these fires are all arson I bet.

On the issue of power lines, we need to put all of the power lines underground.

And yes Bambu, diversification can be hard, and there are crazy people in leadership positions who are bringing our enemies to live with us, they are bringing people from Palestine and Yemen to live in Anaheim and they are giving them free training and business loans in "Little Arabia." We have homeless Americans and homeless Veterans while these stupid fuckers are bringing in people from Palestine and Yemen.

What is even worse, is that Japanese Corporations and other foreign corporations own our Real Estate and our Housing, and they are raising the price of rent because of the fires.

Battle Mountain, Nevada, is nice, and land is only $1,000 per acre and it is easy to get a job at a casino. Battle Mountain needs to invest in their hospital, etc, and in their pharmacy, etc, they need doctors, psychiatrists, and dentists, but Battle Mountain is a nice place to go if people need to escape from California. It would be better to own a travel trailer and to ride a bicycle to work as a cook at the casino instead of being a slave for the Japanese or being homeless here.

Cocoa Beach, Florida, is also nice, and land is way cheaper than in California, and Orlando has Universal where they can make movies and television shows.

Rome, Italy, is also nice, and they have Cinecitta which is the largest movie studio in Europe. The price of rent in Rome is the same as Los Angeles.

I am blessed to live in Anaheim, we need to have sheep, cattle, and goats, everywhere eating the vegetation, and we need to invest in water dropping air craft, etc. We also need to make sure we have water to fight fires, and we can put in sprinkler systems.

Meanwhile, right now I hope we can bring a film and television office to Anaheim City Hall, with help from Chapman film school which is only 10 miles away from City Hall, to bring film and television jobs to Anaheim.

Also, we need to bring in our Christian allies such as the Italians and the French, and the Mexicans are all Roman Catholic and they are on our team, and the Greeks are welcome to come help in California, etc. The people from the Philippines are Christians and they have been helping in California for a long time. And the Colombians are sending coffee and chocolate to New Orleans, etc, and they are good Roman Catholics. Santiago Calatrava is from Spain. Pope Francis is also a good Pope. And the Knights of Columbus are helping here in California, and they are selling Insurance to people now, etc, people can buy housing insurance from the Knights of Columbus now, etc.

These fires are very upsetting, but we will rebuild, and the Knights of Columbus can help as we rebuild, and Santiago Calatrava can help us to rebuild, etc. And we can put the refugees and homeless people all to work rebuilding and landscaping, etc.

Peace.

Salute,

Tony V.

Yes, who'd be a veteran voluntarily these days?
Veterans don't seem to be a priority for govts state or federal in America and elsewhere today.
Maybe if there weren't so many paid volunteers there wouldn't be so much "cannon-fodder" available, and not as many grieving American families.
Importing people and giving them money while there are Americans suffering should be banned by law.

Foreign corporations and foreign citizens should not be allowed to own real estate in America...as allowing them to do so is a failed policy.
My no1 radio host used to say..."investment is investment, ownership is a completely different thing".

There should be state and federal laws preventing landlords from raising rents...except in legally defined situations, and then only by legally defined percentages.

Looks like the 'homeless' population, and 'working poor homeless with vehicles to sleep/live in' population in America are about to increase in number dramatically.

It'll take 15 years to clear all the rubble from Gaza, and about the same length of time to rebuild from the LA fires...if ever.
There'll likely be victims of the fires unable to rebuild because they'd never be able to afford the likely increase in insurance premiums and/or the extra to rebuild above their insurance payout. Many people, in general, are under-insured, not insured for "replacement value". Maybe not insured for 'contents'.

Fire victims should be allowed to live on their burnt land in tents, caravans [travel trailers], cars, trucks, vans, ...connect to electricity and sewer.
Older fire victims seem to be suffering the most...like the lady who lost her husband to cancer and is now without a home, not knowing what will become of her.

Maybe if there weren't so many paid volunteers there wouldn't be so much "cannon-fodder" available, and not as many grieving American families.
Importing people and giving them money while there are Americans suffering should be banned by law.

Sadly, for the last 40 years the main source of jobs for Americans in many places has been the United States Military, and jobs building fighter jets and bombers, etc, and submarines, etc.

Now Musk is taking over the Space Industry.

We still have NASA, etc, and JPL, Lockheed, Northrop, Boeing, etc.

My hometown has NASA and Edwards Air Force Base, and China Lake Navy Weapon Center is close by.

And we have a new train that is going to be built between Las Vegas and Rancho Cucamonga.

Many jobs are going to be created as people rebuild Los Angeles, and the best and brightest architects from around the world can come to Los Angeles, we can bring in Santiago Calatrava, etc.

And there will be lots of jobs preparing for the Olympics, etc. There will be jobs all over for everyone. Plus we have the Entertainment Industry, and Disneyland, and Universal, etc.

The main way to be happy is to start by being grateful, there is always something to be grateful for, and then build a positive attitude on being grateful, and then set out to achieve positive goals, etc.

And I need to go to Church to meet a community of good Christians who all obey the 10 Commandments and the Golden Rule, etc. I love the Jews too, but I need to go to a church which will accept me, and I would not be accepted at a Jewish Temple. The Catholics love me, and the Christians of all types, I worked with the Burbank YMCA, and with Youth For Christ, etc. And the Knights of Columbus do great things here. I would love to find a good Christian woman.

And we have Chapman film school 10 miles away from Anaheim City Hall.

The Veterans can all work doing Security, and working as Body Guards, and they can manage Homeless Shelters, etc.

I am very saddened and angry about the fires, and they burned our best places, instead of Compton, Watts, Inglewood, South Central, etc, where they all need to invest and rebuild. They have new sporting arenas, etc, and there is the Forum, etc, the ghettos have had some investments. The Knights of Columbus and Kiwanis and the Catholic Church can all help in the ghettos, and people from El Salvador are moving into the ghettos, etc.

Pray for California, and it will get better, it will all be rebuilt, and jobs will be created for all of the homeless people, etc.

And we need to build Medical Schools in Kentucky, etc. We need Doctors, Psychiatrists, and Dentists, etc.

Of note, the Gentleman who owned the Colt Casino in Battle Mountain, Nevada, when I worked there was a Navy Veteran who got a Government Business Loan to buy the casino. He owned the casino, and an inn, and a truck stop, and a convenience store, and an RV park, all from Business Loans from being in the Navy. Paul Crow, he probably died a long time ago.

Salute,

Tony V.

Tony,
Musk can't build the spacecraft himself.
NASA should embrace him...he can send up a rocket and have it re-dock from where it was launched.

If he builds planes that don't have doors and other parts falling off them, that'd be a good thing.
