Vontae Mack decided to stop playing at half time today. Officially announced his retirement after the game.

Wow.

Wow is right. He was drafted what, 4 years ago?

Pats could use a young LB if he decided to make a comeback.

It was Vontae Davis (he and his brother, Vernon, who plays for the Redskins, are DC high school football legends) who abruptly retired.

Vontae Mack was a fake player wasn't he?

Jags with a major ass-kicking

not many good take aways for the Pats in that half

2nd half wasn't much better.

Better team won.

I thought Josh was doing a Draft Day riff.

rough night for Opie.

the imagined offensive juggernaut hasn't quite jelled yet

that O-line might get him killed.

Josh Gordon to the Patriots.
For a fifth round pick. Interesting. A lot of his pro lems supposedly stem  from serious self esteem issues. Fortunately, Belichick is known for his positive personality and coddling talent.

We have also, to the surprise of no one, picked up a new kicker and kicked Gonzalez out. Straight out. No truth to the rumor we kicked him out wide right.

Minnesota picked up the guy I wanted us to get, Dan Bailey.

Pats cut Corey Coleman to make room for Gordon.

They kept the sneakers.

Color me skeptical.

Who else you guys got?

From the book that everyone will want to read: One New England assistant said the general feeling among staff members around that time wasn’t that Belichick’s system could make Super Bowl quarterbacks out of all 32 NFL starters. “But if you gave us any of the top 15, we could do it,” the assistant said. “I don’t think the coaches view Tom as special as everyone else in football does. Mr. Kraft thinks Tom is the greatest gift ever, but the coaches don’t.”

An anonymous "assistant" thinks that the staff believes that the staff and not one of the greatest QBs ever to play the game, is responsible for winning several championships.

Good to know.

speaking of top 15 QBs with some post-season success, this is an OP elsewhere about the NYFG

"The New York Football Giants are shaping up to be a shit-show of finger-pointing, second guessing and a lot of bad football this year. So...

Rather than upset Eli and create a QB controversy, Dave Gettleman hired by NFL royalty, the Mara/Tischs, doubled down on Opie, thinking they had the talent to win it now.

To keep the peace in Mayberry, who's townfolk revolted when Opie was benched last year, did not draft the next franchise QB, or trade the 2nd pick in the draft for a package to rebuild and fill and several holes, like the O-line, but instead they drafted a very talented running back. And then they commited to a long-term contract to OBJ, making him the highest paid prima dona head case receiver in the NFL. The PR was this team was an offensive juggernaut, loaded and ready to win.

Poor Opie will make it to Yom Kippur, but may not make it to Halloween if the O-line plays like it played last night. No protection for Eli, no time to let OBJ run routes, not strong enough to open holes for Barkely to scamper through.

So for G-Men fans, kibbitzers, fans of car crashs or schadenfreud share your thoughts, stats, insights, rants or vents, on the blue-bloods of the NFL, BIG-BLUE, the NYFG
