To be fair, at least when I was there more years ago than I want to admit, the power plant smoke stacks still had MAC painted on them.

EVENTUAL 2024 2025 NATIONAL CHAMPION MICHIGAN STATE 35, Prairie View 13
Well, I guess one of our Group of Five teams pulled out, which is why the FCS HBCU school. It was supposed to be Louisiana, but Woke Forrest offered them more money. Anyway, this is a chance to get a little more work in for our newly 19 year old Eventual 2024 Heisman Trophy Winner Aidan Chiles, to work on our O lines cohesion and to cut down on penalties. I would also like to see more commitment to the run game.  As I said this weekend, Chiles needs to make better decisions, but the talent is clearly there. This better not be close.
Meatchicken 12, Arkansas State 3
OK, the offense cannot possibly be that bad. But as I wrote over the weekend, the passing game is a huge issue. Either the QB is incapable of taking the top off the defense, or none of their receivers can. The O Line, right now at least, does not seem capable of the type of bully ball Meatchicken played the last two years. Defensively, the weakness Texas exploited by using quick hits to the outside, away from the stud tackles, probably will not be the same sort of issue as it was last week, because Arky State should not have that type of speed. But there are a couple of teams ahead for Meatchicken that do, so they will need to work through that.
Georgia 42, Kentucky 0
I pick their games because they are the 1 team and my choice to win it all, but this game is not a particularly attractive game to watch unless you are into snuff porn. Kentucky went 6 of 17 for 44 yards passing and had 183 total yards against a below average South Carolina. South Carogoddamnedlina. KY will be turned to jelly by the Georgia defense. Of note, Georgia has practiced against the KY QB, who was on the Georgia Championship team.
Misery 27, Boston College 10
Mizzou has not given up any points yet, not that they have played anyone. I have my doubts about their offense still, but the defense looks like it can be as good as last year, which if you saw them shut down a QB depleted the in the bowl game last year, is saying something. Anyway, I think they also catch BC looking forward to their epic match up against my number 1 team next week.
Our Lady of the Perpetual Tie 27, Purdue 13
Nope. I am inclined to see the bad in OLotPT and I did not see that coming. I still think they have a superb defense, but they have been a cipher on offense. Two games in and still looking for their first touchdown by air. Purdue played really well against a Larry Birdless Indiana State, but I still think OLotPT gets business done here.
Alabama 45, Wisconsin 10
Nice to see Alabama head north of the Mason Dixon for a change, but I would rather see it in November. Anyway, Wisky is not looking too special this year, with unexpectedly close games against KZoo Tech and North and or South Dakota possibly State. It took Bama the better part of the game to get going against South Florida, nbut that looked like one of those games where a better team keeps shooting itself in the foot.
Kansas State 27, Arizona 21
Welcome to the Pure Prairie League, Arizona! Two games into the Brent Brennan regime, and Zona seems to be misfiring against lesser teams. Fifita and McMillan are talented but they had real issues with Northern Arizona last week, and the defense had issues with New Mexico the week before. Maybe this is the week they put it together. If the game was in the hot yet oddly comparatively cooler clime of Tucson, I would pick them. But it is in the grassy flat. So, no.
Oregon 42, Oregon State 35
Washington 27, Washington State 24

Well, I am glad they are still playing the Apple Cup and the Civil War, albeit not as the schedule cappers they should be. Oregon is going to have to pull itself together in the next two weeks, because the looms, and I am starting to get the opinion that Caleb Downs, not Will Johnson or Travis Hunter, is the best defensive back, if not the best defensive player, in the country. Washington still needs to prove itself in the Post Pennix era, and I do not like Will Rogers.
Tennessee 60, Kent State 6
Hey, a MAC school took down OLotPT and another gave a good game to the Pennsylvania State last week. On the other hand, Kent State is, well, not good. And Tennessee very much is, on both sides of the ball. I am firmly seated on the Iamaleava hype train, and with that defense backing him, I have some real hopes for the Vols this year. They have games at Oklahoma and Georgia, as well as a home game against Alabama, ahead so it is not any guarantee, but they look like a championship challenger. I like when new schools make the playoffs, and that is an advantage the new format affords.
Maryland 42, Virginia 17
I am of two minds about the Maryland loss to MSU last week. They by rights should have won, but they also should have lost by a lot more, given the turnovers. I think they are a pretty good team, though.
Tufts 31, Bowdoin 16
The season gets under way for the Fightin Doughfaces under the spreading chestnut trees of Brunswick! But I suspect there are no scarlet letters on the football calendar until November, when they play Bates. For this game, I expect them to crumple like the Union right at Chancellorsville. They do have some pretty notable alums beyond Chamberlain now that I look at it. Given his oeuvre I am not sure how to work Alfred Kinsey into this.
Mount Union 42, John Carroll 17
On the other end of the small school spectrum, the Mount is on a season of redemption, having failed to advance beyond the second round of the D III playoffs last year. This is the 43rd time the two schools, about 50 miles apart, have played. The longest winning streak in that series for JCU? One game.
Some teams I would normally include, notably ClemSIN, the and University of California* are idle, so I am scraping the bottom of the pan.

Alabama 45, Wisconsin 10
I will say it again.
Notre Dame had a chance at Luke Fickel the all American Catholic boy from Cincinnati and, instead, whiffed on Marcus Freeman. If WISKY gives BAMA a game this week the second guessers in South Bend will have a field year of complaining as the Irish run through a ( now) meaningless competitiveless season of cupcakes.

Boy, anyone who had Florida State in their preseason top 10 is looking really stupid right now.

Has any team ever gone winless the year after going unbeaten in the regular season? Asking for a friend 8n Tallahassee.

EVENTUAL 2024 2025 NATIONAL CHAMPION Michigan State University 27, Boston College 17
We need to stop with the penalties, which was the main problem with the win over PVAM. And the freshly 19 EVENTUAL TWO TIME HEISMAN TROPHY WINNER AIDAN CHILES needs to continue to learn and grow. He lucked out when a huge mistake got wiped out by a penalty on the defense, but that is not always going to happen. BC was considered a below average South Atlantic League team coming into the season, and the signature win that elevated them nationally is looking a bit less impressive with each FSU loss. In addition to Chiles, I am liking our two headed running back committee. Defensively, the hero from the 2021 Meatchicken win, Charles Brantley, ran back one of the longest 100 yard touchdown I have seen. My second favorite part of this clip? Watch number 3 for PVAM. That is their quarterback. Watch him decleat the MSU blocker, and then chase down Brantley all the way to the goal line and try to make a td saving tackle. That is how you earn the respect of your teammates. https://www.espn.com/video/clip/_/id/41261536

Tennessee 45, Oklahoma 10
Riding the Vol hype train! Yes, the Kent State is poor even by MAC standards but that was brutal. The defense has been impressive, and Oklahoma has had two straight offensive performances decidedly lacking in anything approaching luster. Iamaleava is still my man crush, but they also have a great running game. And to repeat, that defense is impressive. They have to get by Bama at home in a month, but that November 16 game at Georgia could be the game of the year. Provided my Vol love does not run the path of my FSU top 10 pick.

University of California* 27, Meatchicken 13
I started this on Monday, before learning the Meats were switching to Orji** at QB, a move I was going to predict, but I do not think that solves their problem. He is a run first QB with accuracy issues. Meaning, he is not taking the top off the defense, and without the O Line having the ability to push people around reliance on the run is not going to be the answer. USC has a defense. I do not necessarily trust it, but it is there. Not sure how impressive the Trojan O is, but they have been good enough and I miss trojanhorse,

Nebraska 21, Illinois 17
A battle of two unbeaten and ranked teams and who would have thunk it in August. This will really be the first test for Raiola against a plus defense. I am interested to see how he handles it. I like him so far. Both teams have showed pretty good defenses. Illinois and Nebraska both have legit OOC wins, but Kansas is, I think, better than Colorado, at least defensively.

Oklahoma State 31, Utah 24
12th year senior Cam Rising got his inconvenient injury about 10 weeks early, although if there is a QB that jokes about the length of Rising career falls a wee bit flat against, it is Bowman, who has now played two years of ball for three separate universities. God I love the portal. Anyway, Bowman does have the other OSU offense humming. Rising is supposed to be back this week, though. I think the winner of this game becomes the odds on favorite for the Pure Prairie League representative in the Playoffs.

the Ohio State University 56, Marshall 3
Still have not played anyone. Yes, this game is a last minute replacement for Washington on the schedule so they are not deliberately softening the schedule, and the has home and homes against Texas and Alabama the next four years, but from an evaluation standpoint THEY STILL HAVE NOT PLAYED ANYONE. When that changes, and it does in two weeks when they go to Oregon, we will have a better read on what the is beyond Way Better Than Western Michigan. Also, Way Beter Than Marshall.

University of California*** 21, Florida State 10
Florida 20, Ole Missississippippi State 10

Of the two, Napier is on the dreaded Most Fired list. If they lose to the truly awful Ole Mississippi State it will likely happen this week, since Florida has a bye next week. It might happen even if they win, which they should. Ole Mississippi State got waxed by Toledo at home last week. And, hey, how about the MAC this year? Florida State is tanking in epic fashion as well, but you cannot fire someone the year after they went unbeaten in the regular season, can you? Can You? Anyway, Cal already has a win against God Apostrophe S Conference. Granted, Auburn is not a Thorne in any side but their own this year, but winzawin. Tallahassee is suddenly not a place people do not want to play.

Toledo 31, Western Kentucky 17
You do not usually, Hell, ever, say this about the MAC, but circle October 19 on your calendar. Toledo versus Northern Illinois may go a ways to determining who gets the non power conference Playoff slot. OK, October 19 is also Alabama and Tennessee, so that is a better watch, but there is a reason God invented the remote control. Toledo is a solid team, and Ole Mississippi State is bad, but a road thumping of a God Apostrophe S Conference team is a road thumping of a God Apostrophe S Conference team.

the Pennsylvania State University 42, the Kent State University 3
PSU is a tough game to have to regroup for after getting scrapped off the Neyland Stadium field with a snow shovel. the PSU has only been sporadically impressive offensively and struggled against the other MAC school they played, but they do have the offensive talent to put up big numbers on the Kent State. Everyone does.

the Arizona State 30, Texas Technological College 24
Hey, the local team remains unbeaten! I have to show some love. I know the odds that anyone reading this stays up late enough to catch their games, but ASU RB Cam Skattebo is the type of player I think djgrady, sorry, not him his alter ego cap, would love. I have watched much of two games he has played in and I swear I have yet to see him try to go around anyone.

the Washington State 27, the San Jose State 17
The PAWCP attempt to rebuild itself some how skipped San Jose. Maybe they did not know the way. Nice to see one of the rump teams exact a measure of revenge last week. I think the Wazzou game against Oregon State on November 23 will decide the PAWCP championship this year.

ClemSIN 27, the North Carolina State 21
ClemSIN recovered fairly well from getting shut down by Georgia in the win over, well, App State. They do not seem to be the terror they were back when they recruited top flight Quarterbacks, but I tend to feel about North Carolina teams the way I feel about Mississippi teams. Even when they have a good record they need to prove it to me before I trust them.

Maryland 42, New City College 10
I sort of low key forgot Villanova played football, which they do on a FCS level. They are unbeaten, and when you can walk into Colgate and squeeze them like toothpaste you are, well probably not necessarily any good.  I think Maryland catches them looking forward to the game next week against the West Egg Gatsbys, or whoever LIU actually is.

the Louisiana State University 55, University of California **** 3
UCLA looks to be the worst team in the Big I Have Given Up Keeping Count. LSU made a decent comeback against the Cocks last week in a game I had given up on. But they did not, and good for them.

* Southern

** I somehow think I should make a joke about that name but I cannot think of one.
