Realist moment here:  let them have voter ID (which can at least be responded to in each state with drives for state ID cards for the two percent or whatever who don't have picture IDs) and then focus on the nitty gritty of a guaranteed period of early voting, mandatory availability of no-excuse mail voting, a broad new automatic voter registration system, Sunday voting,  and demographic-neutral districts.   And easy access to registrars,  fully supplied and funded to issue IDs.   We can get people over the ID hurdle,  which a majority seems okay with (probably due to most people have IDs and really don't think about those who don't), and that's one less thing the hysterics can cry fraud about.   Let the cocksuckerd have their "solution" to a nonexistent problem.

Just pass the damn legislation to secure the rights and access. We have the power to fix so much shit in this moment but for someone reason we let the losers dictate terms.

A national ID makes sense.   Could also function as a passport in travel where no special visas are needed.   Make it so you can get one at any government office.   For remote areas,  have something mobile,  like a bookmobile.

The argument that the unvaccinated will mostly be Republicans' own voters:

Ignores that by systemic design the most under-served and under-funded communities when it comes to medical care are communities of color.

Ignores that anti-vaxx rhetoric draws in a lot of money Republicans can then spend on spinning the truth any which way they like, in an electoral landscape where money often equals voters and turnout.

Ignores that Republicans don't need as large a share of voters if they suppress our share of voters effectively enough - and so far, they're off to a solid start on that.

All of this still needs fighting. It doesn't need less fighting because we were tired. Time's passed; we're not tired anymore. It doesn't need less fighting because we did the work from 2017-2021; that work didn't magically stop when Biden took office.

The idea that we could sit back because Republicans are only hurting themselves is privileged, short-sighted, and deeply, deeply inaccurate. We like to imagine that we don't buy into Republican spin no matter how much funding is behind it. We're able to spot these incredibly obvious lies all over, right? But those lies cover over the smaller ones, the ones that nudge you rather than shout at you, and instead of fighting both, we congratulate ourselves for recognizing the obvious ones, and then turn around and spout the less obvious ones that convince us to sideline ourselves and wait in the belief that doing so is proactive or winning something, or bettering our position even as we sit on our hands.

Then we wonder why we keep losing fights we imagined we'd already won. If any argument convinces you the less humane course is the correct one, that's an argument that is very likely lying to you and that works against activism, liberalism, and progress.
