Shortening a long DAY, not just a game.
And focused on player health/overall wellness.
Kid, all the rules are based on tradition. Why not ditch any that make the game take longer on days with double headers?! (Did I really need to specify that?!)
Your erudite dismissal of why not 6 or 8 instead of 7 doesn't make the question moronic. Ditto the changes in what constitutes a strikeout or a walk - the suggestion of changing from 3 to 2 and 4 to 3 to shorten games is hardly original to me. Every count starts 1-1. Why not do that for double headers? Or reduce the number of outs to 2 per inning? As a trial, anyway.
I'm not recommending any of those. I am suggesting that they are just as legitimate as the 7 inning change in "solving" the problems they are trying to solve.
