Ham -

Can you give me a projected Phils lineup, rotation, etc  for this season?

Maybe we can all submit ours (I will do Mets) and create some conversation.

nope.

I can't.

The DL in the NL will change everything, and the team isn't done making deals.

I am reasonably of, with all healthy, and barring trades:

Bieber
Civale
Quantrill
Plesac
McKenzie

As our starters.

Clase
Gone
Hentges
Karinchak

In the pen, and this much of our batting order:

1. Myles Straw CF
2. Amed Rosario SS (Most likely,  there is some position flexibility with him)
3. Jose Ramirez 3b
4. Franmil Reyes DH

Every other position is up in the air, even with what we currently have.

Worse than we thought.

Popped his own cork.

With a gun.

The universal DL helps fuel trades this spring.

Discuss.

MLB's latest self-promotional piece on how they are making substantive proposals while the Players are not.

https://www.mlb.com/news/mlb-new-offer-to-mlbpa-details

I enter this in the same category as "we locked out the players so that we could be sure they would be back on the field on time for the season."

As of yesterday (the 15th) two teams' pitchers and catchers could no longer show up on time, even if the contract were signed today. Nor is it looking good through the rest of the week.

Other takes on the latest from the MLB "negotiating" team:
https://www.bleedcubbieblue.com/2022/2/15/22934161/mlb-attempt-mlbpa-future-contractions-minor-leagues-evil-plan

https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/02/mlbs-cba-proposal-included-ability-to-reduce-number-of-available-minor-league-roster-spots.html

As one of the stories notes, the union has turned down such proposals in the past, so it comes as no surprise that they plan to turn it down again.

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10027086-mlb-reportedly-asks-mlbpa-for-ability-to-reduce-size-of-domestic-reserve-list

But catch this, from that last link!
https://theathletic.com/3126165/2022/02/11/mlb-argues-for-minor-leaguers-to-remain-unpaid-in-spring-training-citing-life-skills-gained/

Quote
A Major League Baseball lawyer said in federal court Friday that minor league players should not be paid during spring training, because they should be considered trainees. The argument was part of a broader push by MLB to toss an eight-year-old lawsuit brought by Aaron Senne and other minor leaguers over their compensation.

"It is the players that obtain the greater benefit from the training opportunities that they are afforded than the clubs, who actually just incur the cost of having to provide that training," said Elise Bloom of Proskauer Rose, a firm that is also advising MLB in its lockout of major league players. "During the training season, the players are not employees, and would not be subject to either the Fair Labor Standards Act or any state minimum wage act."

I am sure that will go over very well.

I also think that in an age in which both college athletes and grad students are seeing increased rights that this is a stupid position for MLB to take.
