Well my goodness, what a shiny new site.  Haven't dropped by in years.  Redecorating?

I will go and explore various corridors.  Good to see this place still exists.

I saw a poll asking about reducing the number of threads/forums here on Escape From Elba.    If the number is reduced, here's hoping that Meander Where You May stays intact.  It's early days after the big reboot, and I'm hoping some of the old NYTs, along with newbies, will start to repopulate this forum.   I'm missing meandering.

Why DID they shut down the old NYTs forums, anyway?

Trump. Its primary his fault.

NYT went to a article based comment format. May have also been a pay feature. Memory is not as good as it.was.in times past.

Ah, well.   Good to see at least one familiar name here.   It's been years since the Olden Days,  before the mass migration.

I invited someone to meet me here for coffee, hence the photo.

RIP.   My uncle (the Bohemian artist one) used to subscribe, and in my youth I would read it sometimes when visiting.   It being Kansas,  that was a pretty good reach for a neighborhood newspaper.

One time when I was attending the AADA, it was raining, and I did not have an umbrella, and all of the stores were sold out of umbrellas, so everyone told me about an umbrella man who walked the streets with a cart selling umbrellas. I went driving around looking for the umbrella man, and I finally found him, and I was running late so I was in a hurry, and I hit the brakes and spun around to where he was with his cart, and for some reason I scared him, and he left his cart there and he took off running. I had to chase him down and tell him that he was safe, and that I just wanted to buy an umbrella. He might have been frightened by my old pickup, I had a 1960 Ford F-250, with a Chevy 350 engine in it, with a 400 turbo trans with a shift kit, it jumped when it shifted gears, and I had big tires on the back, with chrome wheels, and it was black with lots of chrome. It was a cool truck. Anyhow, finally I convinced him that he was safe, and I bought an umbrella, it turned out to be a nice umbrella and it was only five dollars.

Just a little story about a rainy day in the past.

Salute,

Tony V.

One great thing about stories, is that sometimes you wish people were there with you to experience something, and with a story you can share the experience with people, and it is sort of like they really were there.

From the Wikipedia article on Deutsches Worterbuch, which was begun by the Grimm brothers....

Quote
More volumes and updates were planned, but in their lifetime the brothers could only fully complete portions: Wilhelm Grimm wrote the articles to the letter D and died in 1859; Jacob, who was able to fully complete the letters A, B, C and E, died in 1863 while working on the entry for "Frucht" (fruit).

Not sure why I find this detail so amusing.
