At least we will not lose this week! Even absent my two favorite teams, EVENTUAL 2025 20265 NATIONAL CHAMPION Michigan State and Whoever is Playing Meatchicken, playing this week, there are some really great games on tap.

the 27, Oregon 16
One of the games everyone had circled at the start of the year. I still have questions about both teams, MSU is arguably the best team either has played so they are both to an extent untried. The the defense is looking great, fast and physical, and offensively the has probably the best collection of skill players in CFB right now. I was very impressed with the line play from Oregon on both sides of the ball Friday, and that may be the key to taking down the the offense, putting pressure into the backfield. I also think that the one best way Oregon wins is if they can run effectively. I have never liked Will Rogers, and he was not impressive Friday. Howard has been better than serviceable, but I think he is the weak link offensively, and if the Oregon pass rush can get in his face, they could slow the down. I am hyped.

the Pennsylvania State University 27, University of California* 13
I love the traditional Big I Have Given Up Keeping Track rivalry games like this one. The the Pennsylvania State running game is terrific, and they have a big play, if inconsistent, passing game. USC has been a disappointment, especially offensively, and the Pennsylvania State has a premium defense. I look for them to control the lines and simply wear down USC.

Texas 35, Oklahoma 17
It is a rivalry game, so anything can happen, or so they say, but I see a huge talent and skill gap. I just have not liked what I have seen from Oklahoma so far this year. I think they can stay with Texas defensively, but the offense just is not there. Ewers is back for Texas. I think they open up a lead and coast.

Utah 27, the Arizona State 21
Cam Rising, as one writer put it, may be the first person to go directly from NIL to SSI. He has missed about a month with, officially, a cut finger. Is he going to play this week? Is his injury more serious than normally implied by the words, cut finger? Who knows. Maybe he aggravated it thumbing through his AARP magazine. Maybe it was closer to amputated than a cut. Anyway, as much as I like typing and saying Skattebo, and as better ASU is than I thought they would be, Utah should take this. By the way, as a side note, one interesting benefit of the chaos in God Apostrophe S Conference is a whole lot of really good two and three loss teams there, which makes a one loss team like Utah look in better shape come the playoffs.

Tennessee 31, Florida 14
Speaking of really good two and three loss teams from God Apostrophe S Conference, Tennessee put themselves on the edge Saturday with an offensively lifeless game against Arkansaw. My Iamaleava man crush is still on, but he was not good on Saturday. It is OK to lose to Georgia and Alabama, but losing to Arkansaw is not. Anyway, Florida has won a couple of games against marginal teams, but, have you seen the rest of their schedule? Two more wins, maybe.

the Louisiana State 37, Old Mississippi 28
Two more good God Apostrophe S Conference teams with one loss. Really, this almost feels like a pre playoff playoff game. The loser is in it deep. Lane Kiffin has his eye on Gainesville, or so I have heard, and the offenses that rolled over the Furmans of this world have been slowed by teams with a pulse. I am not overly thrilled with LSU, especially defensively, but I think they can take this one. Never bet with Kiffin with anything on the line.

Pittsburgh 31, University of California ** 28
Hey the Fighting Nards are unbeaten and finally ranked! Holstein was not on my radar coming into the year, but he has put up good numbers, especially for a 19 year old. Pitt really has not played anyone of note, but I think they will continue to milk Holstein for a while. As for Cal, as a person who roots for chaos, I was very disappointed that they collapsed against the U last week, so they are on my shit list. I have noted previously that there is a difference between a team that is unbeaten and one that just has not lost yet. I think Pitt is on the second part of that statement, but they should take this one.

the Iowa State 27, Morgantown School of Applied Business Technology 24
Speaking of Hey they are still unbeaten and finally ranked, I bring you the ISU. They have really only played one half of a good team, given the perpetually offensively challenged Iowa. As with Pitt, I think they are closer to Have Not Lost Yet than Unbeaten, but their comeuppance is not this week. I had WVU as a sneaky possibility coming out of the Pure Prairie League, but losing to Pitt shot that down. Still, they remain unbeaten in the Pure Prairie League for now.

Maryland 31, Northwestern 20
This game probably means nothing outside of determining who has bragging rights at the yanguy family Thanksgiving dinner. That is enough to get it included here, even though my interest is below minimal. Maryland winning makes MSU look better, which is all the data point I need.

Brigham Young University 38, Arizona 20
That close season opening win against SMU is looking better for BYU. Arizona has a nice win against Utah, and McMillan is a first round pick, but Frittata has not built on the successes of last year. BYU has a schedule that sets up well for them, with only the Holy War in terms of ranked teams. They are a sneaky playoff contender.

Our Lady of the Perpetual Tie 28, Stanford 13
Riley Leonard finally threw for a couple of touchdowns two weeks ago, but OLotPT still has a Meatchicken problem. Until they can throw, defenses are going to sit on the run. The thing is, there really is not a team on their schedule that can make them pay for that. The service academies may be the best teams they have left. Well, maybe USC figures things out by the end. Still, especially with the best God Apostrophe S Conference teams having one loss, OLotPT sets up well for the post season.

ClemSIN 31, Woke Forest 10
Our old friend jbott is presumably off the ledge by now. ClemSIN is looking pretty strong as a contender for the Atlantic [sic] Coast title. They still are a quarterback away from the Championship, I think, as Kubelik is serviceable plus only. But they have rebounded from getting hosed by Georgia quite well. W the F U is not much of a challenge.

The United States Military Academy 35, University of Alabama at Birmingham 10
Also still unbeaten? Both Army and Navy. I still want to see what will happen if they are playing for the AAC championship the week before they are scheduled to play.

Kentucky 27, Vanderbilt 20
Two teams my chaos loving heart is indebted to. Kentucky has one bad game. Vandy has played well, even in their one loss to Misery. KY has had an extra week since the Old Mississippi loss to stabilize. From what I saw, Diego Pavia, like half of Nashville, is probably still drunk.

EVENTUAL 2025 2026 NATIONAL CHAMPION Michigan State 27, Iowa 14
A bad goal line fumble against the notwithstanding, EVENTUAL 2025 HEISMAN TROPHY WINNER Aiden Chiles has been more careful with the ball lately. Of course, we did not do much against the or Oregon, but that is mostly on the O line. So, I am banking that Chiles is improving and the week off can help us sort out the O line issues. Anyway, I hope so.
Meatchickeen 21, Illinois 17
Meatchicken has now tried three quarterbacks this year and the best has sucked sweaty balls. I am not entirely in on the Illini offense. I like their defense, but I think the Meatchicken run game breaks off enough big plays to get a few scores.
Our Lady of the Perpetual Tie 31, Georgia Institute of Technology 17
Well, OLotPT threw for a couple of TDs, finally. Georgia Tech had that one big game to start the year that is less impressive with each passing week. It is a sneaky  game for OLotPT, and they are battling a lot of injuries, but they should take it.
Georgia 35, Texas 31
For all the bad things about the massive conference changes, one good thing we have had as a result is that there are great previously intersectional rivalries playing out mid season, like the and Oregon and the PSU and USC last week, and this game this week. I still have Georgia pegged as the number 1 team in the country, so I am taking them, but I really wish I would be able to see this game. Not so much as to pass on a weekend on the Coast with my lovely bride, mind you. Georgia and Alabama, the and Oregon were instant classics. I expect the same here.
Tennessee 42, Alabama 38
Boy, this looked a lot better two weeks ago, but in those two weeks both teams lost games that they should have won easily, and struggled to eke out a win that should have been in the bag from the opening snap. My Iamaleava man crush is on life support. Tennessee offense has been absent now for two weeks. Alabama just looks out of sorts. One of these two teams will fall into a hole it will be very hard to climb out of.
United States Military Academy 35, East Carolina7
The Caissons are rolling along. Over hill, over dale, and over East Carolina.  But wait. I just realized that the lyrics to the Army hymn include Limber front, limber rear, Prepare to mount your cannoneer.  Uh, prepare to mount who? Seems like it is already a pretty dangerous job without anal rape.
United States Naval Academy 31, Charlotte 10
Why is Charlotte nicknamed the 49ers? Was Charlotte somehow the starting point for the Gold Rush? What is the connection here? These are the type of questions that keep me up at night. Worrying about whether Charlotte will beat Navy does not. And outside of my beloved Spartans, I still want nothing more from this college footsie season than to see these two teams go unbeaten. The logistics of them in the league championship and playoffs is glorious in its potential for chaos.
University of California * 27, Maryland 13
Fun fact. With the PSU winning over USC Saturday, Big I Have Lost Count teams are now 2 and 9 when crossing three time zones. So make that 3 and 9. Well, probably. USC has been making sows ears out of silk purses all year.
Nebraska 27, Indiana 20
How long can IU go unbeaten? Their penultimate game is against the in Columbus, but after this game they have Washington making the dreaded time zone leap, Us, and then they get to beat the Meat. And they end with Purdue. Can they go 11 and 1 and make the Championship game? Should I be thinking of them as a playoff team?
ClemSIN 42, University of Vagina 13
ClemSIN is looking like the best team in the Atlantic [sic] Coast Conference again. Uva is, well, not.
Louisville 27, the U 24
My upset special of the week. It will not be the first time a Jeff Brohm coached team has taken a dump in the middle of an otherwise great season for an opponent.
the Iowa State 35, Central Florida 10
Bad times in Mouseville after a 3 and 0 start. They are starting a promising freshman quarterback, but that is always a work in progress. ISU is a smart, well coached team. I still think Iowa State has a couple of losses in their schedule, but they are looking pretty good right now.
the Oklahoma State 31, Brigham Young 24
Okie State has now dropped three in a row, but they are still a talented team. BYU has been the surprise team of the Pure Prairie League so far.
the Louisiana State 27, Arkansas 24
One loss teams are always on the verge of a Hope You Enjoyed The Outback Bowl season. LSU was over that edge last week until Old Mississippi Kiffined one up. Arkansas has given some good teams tough games.

I am really impressed with Texas and Sarkasian. His ability to prepare a team for an opponent is superb. A sober Sark is a deadly Sark. I'll take the Longhorns.

EVENTUAL 2025 2026 NATIONAL CHAMPION Michigan State 20, Meatchicken 13
EVANTUAL 2025 HEISMAN TROPHY WINNER Aiden Chiles was pretty good against a stout Iowa defense, and we found a semblance of a running game as well. I am not going to declare all of the problems solved, after all, while we moved the ball, touchdowns would be preferable to Kim field goals and we have definite unresolved red zone issues, but the trend is encouraging. Still, Meatchicken has a better defense and will be a bigger challenge. The absence of any passing game at all continues to hamstring Meatchicken. But you all know I will never take Meatchicken to beat us. I would rather gnaw of my typing fingers.

the 45, Nebraska 10
Did not expect the beat down for Nebraska last week. I will see it as an anomaly slash growing pains, but it does not auger well for the battle against the. The the defense, Oregon notwithstanding, is solid and strong, and should keep Raiola in the bottle. Howard continues to be efficient, and the has the most offensive weapons in the Country.

the Pennsylvania State University 27, Wisconsin 21
Wisky has done fairly well since being about the only team USC did not blow a second half lead to. But then, they have cleaned up against the Big I Have Given Up Trying To Count basement dwellers. PSU is unbeaten, but they have not had an elite game yet. Well, they are the only team to beat Illinois, but I am not putting a lot of faith in them. I think they have a solid run game and Allar is good enough to keep defenses honest, but Camp Randall is a tough place to play.

Navy 31, Our Lady of the Perpetual Tie 20
Is this wishful thinking? Sure. But it is not just my hate for OLotPT speaking. It is my being very interested in seeing the service academies screw up the playoffs. While OLotPT has been good against the run, they are banged up, and the triple option is a tough one off to prepare for. Go Navy!

Old Mississippi 35, Oklahoma17
Brent Venables looks to be the embodiment of the Peter Principle. Or maybe it is just the step up in competition in the league change. Or the absence of a quality Quarterback, Okie is hardly the only team in the CFB to have that issue. But they looked awful last week and out of sorts all year. I think Old Mississippi is a fraud, but they should take this one with some ease.

Oregon 40, Illinois 20
Illinois is a good story, and they really  put the wood to Meatchicken last week. But the Big I Have Given Up Trying to Count is still adjusting to the cross country jaunts. Oregon is a pretty good bet to be unbeaten going into the Big etc championship game. They are very good on both sides of the ball, and they get Illinois travelling.

the Louisiana State University 30, Texas A and M 18
Well, this pairs the only two teams unbeaten in conference so far. While it is pretty silly to take anything for granted in God Apostrophe S Conference this year, it really does feel like one of these teams gets a leg up on the road to the Conference Championship. LSU losing to USC is looking less and less like a caliber loss with each USC second half yack job, which TAMU losing to OLotPT is looking better. I just do not think TAMU has the quarterback for sustained success.

Misery 27, Alabama 24
This game very much has the feel of elimination games, especially for Alabama which already is at two losses. Misery will not have the schedule strength or to be perfectly frank the reputation to overcome a second loss, while Alabama might. Milroe looked like the best QB in the nation for one half, but he has struggled for the rest of the year, even with the super frosh wide out. Misery has a very good defense, so it will be interesting to see how he fares. And, the big question, with a loss here, is Kalen DeBoer on the Most Fired watch list? Three losses and a trip to the Tax Slayer Bowl is not what the alumni expect.

Texas 38, Vanderbilt 10
Vandy had their moment in the sun. The dark fire will not avail them. Back to the shadows! They shall not pass! Texas showed both some uncertain QB play and uncertain coaching last week, but I expect them to have learned from the mistakes.

the U 31, the Florida State 30
I almost made another wishful thinking pick here but could not pull the trigger. The U has been living on the edge for three straight weeks. Somewhere it will get them. Hard as it is to see Florida State doing the job, though. Well, or anyone they play from here on out. But it will happen.

Central Florida 26, Brigham Young University 23
I have noted the difference between Unbeaten and Have Not Lost Yet. But to be fair, BYU is running out of opportunities for that loss.

Syracuse 27, Pittsburgh 20
Kind of seems like I am wishing to see a lot of Power Conference unbeatens take the pipe, almost taking the FSU, picking CFU, this game. Probably a good thing for my win loss record that Iowa State is not playing. Anyway, I did not really expect much from either team. Hereford was not very good against Cal, but even though that is the only extended look I have had for him, I am not writing him off. McCord got a raw deal in Columbus, but he is a sold QB even without the weapons.

Washington 27, Indiana 20
But for this one at least, I have an excuse. The IU quarterback is out for this game, at least and IU has had a very soft schedule so far, only Nebraska has a winning record, and even for cupcakes their cupcakes are cupcakes. Which is to say, I think they are not going to the date with the unbeaten. Obviously, I have them losing next week too. I should note, though, that Washington has done the dreaded time zone jump twice already, and played their worst games, and I do not like their quarterback.

Rutgers 27, University of Southern California 24
I expect USC to carry a two touchdown lead into the fourth, or as it is known this year, Right Where Rutgers Wants Them. I doubt even our friend trojanhorse can pony up the dough to buy out Riley, but this is not what the Alumni fantasized about when they threw all that money at him.

Minnesota 20, Maryland 17
They will play a game. Points will be scored. A team will win. And I will not care.

EVENTUAL 2025 2026 NATIONAL CHAMPION Michigan State 27, Indiana 24
Yeah, it does not matter if you move the ball up and down the field if you do not score. I consider this to be a growth year, and I am happy with the growth. EVENTUAL 2025 HEISMAN TROPHY WINNER Aiden Chiles Is getting better with the ball, and committing fewer turnovers. Now to moderate between risky throws and being too conservative. I am not sure if Indiana has its starting QB back, but I do think we can burst through the IU D and do our thing.

the Ohio State University 35, the Pennsylvania State University 27
There are a lot of games yet to be played that will impact the Championship hunt, and Tennessee plays Georgia in Week 12, and Texas plays TAMU the last week of the season, but this sort of feels like the last Circle the Date must watch game of the regular season. I suspect Allard is out for the game, and although Beau Pribula (if that is really his name) played well, the has a superior defense that can make him look like a second string quarterback. I look for the the talent differential to win this one. And for Ryan Day to finally get a win against a top 5 opponent. Although, State College is a real tough place to play, and the the replacement left tackle against the PSU stellar edge rushers could be interesting.

Oregon 35, Meatchicken 12
Take two turkeys, one goose, four cabbages, but no duck, and mix them together. After one taste, you will duck soup for the rest of your life. Anyway, Oregon makes the dreaded three time zone jump, which has proven to be an issue before, and Meatchicken has a good defense, but not an elite one. Oregon has the offensive weapons and Meatchicken the lack thereof enough for Oregon to pull away.

Southern Methodist University 42, Pittsburgh 34
Other than the and PSU, this is the only game featuring two ranked teams. I think the two teams are pretty evenly matched, given they both average 443 point something yards a game. What I have seen of Eli Ayrshire has not been that impressive and he may not be healthy enough to play. It appears Nate Shields and Yarnell* is getting the first team reps. Between that and the home field, I will take the Ponies.

the Iowa State University 33, Texas Tech 20
Continuing the parade of unbeatens, the ISU plays a Texas Tech team fresh off of gacking up a 13 point 4th quarter lead. ISU has played a pretty soft schedule, and they are not on track to play a ranked team until the last game of the season. I think they, like Indiana, are a good team milking a favorable schedule, but unlike IU there is no the waiting in the weeds for them. TTU, and every time I see that I unconsciously insert an I, is a more or less credible team, no more.

United States Military Academy at West Point 42, United States Air Force Academy 10
Lost in the hoopla of the excellent starts for Army and, OLotPT game notwithstanding, Navy is that the Air Force sucks gophers. The Caissons have gone rolling along over everyone all year, and they are not about to let a defecting organization like the former Army Air Corps stop them.

The U 31, Duke 27
Leaving aside the astonishingly bad the FSU, Miami has played a series of nail biters that they have prevailed in. Duke is good enough to keep that going but not, I think, good enough to be the team that topples the U.

Texas A and M 27, South Carogoddamnlina 24
South Carolina leads the NCAA in moral victories, falling just short to the LSU and Alabama in two of their three losses. Here is one more. Not that they are asking me, mind you, but were I TAMU would go with Marcel The Shell Reed over Conner Weigman any day.

ClemSIN 35, Louisville 17
Louisville has never beaten ClemSIN since it entered the Atlantic [sic] Coast Conference, and I do not expect them to do it now. ClemSIN should make the Conference Championship game, with a game in the Pitts their major roadblock, but they do have to be careful against a decent team like Louisville, who has played several better teams tough.

Georgia 31, Florida 14
It is the World s Largest Cocktail Party! It is almost as if Billy Napier wants to keep his job. It is a tough road to bowl eligibility for Florida, their next four opponents are all ranked. Georgia has not been a world beater on offense, but they do get more than enough defense to beat Florida.

Tennessee 28, Kentucky 18
Like everyone else with one loss, which is roughly all of God Apostrophe S Conference, Tennessee has a margin of error of exactly zero. There is a very goo argument for God Apostrophe S Conference getting four teams into the playoffs, but the math is tough, especially if both ISU and BYU win out into the conference championship.  A second loss IN the Conference Championship game is one thing, but a second loss outside of that send you into Thunderdome with five or six other teams with roughly equal claims. A third loss and you are playing on the Poulan Weed Eater Bowl or something. Tennessee still has Georgia on its horizon and cannot afford to let up. KY looked like a threat after the near to beat Georgia but have been jelly since.

University of Southern California 35, Washington 27
Maybe a trip back to the PAWCP will help SC fight on. The rough elbows of the Midwest seem a bit much for them. Again, for SC it is not just that they have lost, but how they have lost.

Mount Union 49, Capital  3
Mount Union has not won the D III Championship since 2017, and has played in the Stagg Bowl just once this decade. They have to be hangry for more this year.

Bowdoin 23, Bates 14
In a matchup of 2 and 5 teams, how do you pick? Well, the most famous Bowdoin Alums include two Civil War Generals, the guy who wrote The Scarlett Letter, and by all accounts the handsomest man to serve as President of the United States. For Bates, they have a guy who declared himself the Incarnation of Elijah and King David and starved several followers to death. Good enough for me.

We are licking our wounds for a week Hey, we won the first quarter! Son instead of leading with EVENTUAL 2024 2025 NATIONAL CHAMPION Michigan State I will lead with this question. Where are we in terms of the five unbeatens? In order of the possibility of their losing a game this week (hint: not likely):

Army 24, North Texas 21
This is the most likely loss, based upon reports that Bryson Daily is a likely scratch. The Dailyless Army Offense looked listless against the Air Force last week, even though the defense remained impressive. I am riding with Army on this one, but North Texas does have the chops to take them down.

BYU 35, Utah 20
WTF happened to Utah? I suspect I am not alone in thinking that they were a real threat in their first post PAWCP year, but they went winless for October. How much of this is due to their geriatric QB getting hurt I do not know. Utah has had only two losing seasons since hiring Urban Meyer in 2003, but this year is setting up like a third. I realize this is a major rivalry game and that does matter a bit, but not that much. A listless, lifeless team at this point.

Indiana 35, Meatchicken 14
Look, to an extent, picking the likelihood of a loss this high is a function of laundry. But consider Indiana has not played a ranked team yet. Granted they have played three straight OK teams and beaten them all badly, but they have no real quality wins. I consider them still an unknown, which is why I have them here. I do not think a loss is likely, Meaatchicken is awful offensively, but that Meatchicken defense does present the possibility of an upset.

The U 42, Georgia Tech 28
So Miami has decided to simply outscore everyone. That sort of works for me, although I do not see it as a long term answer. Yes, the U is the top rated offense in CFB this year, and Cam Ward is a Heisman candidate, but they were on the brink three times, and a bad day always sits just around the corner. Just not this corner.

Oregon 42, Maryland 14
Oregon looks like the best team right now. Maryland looks like stinky poo. I think Oregon looks headed to a neutral site rematch with the, and while I can see Wisky or Washington as a slight threat, well, not this week.

Other games with Playoff Impact:

Alabama 31, the Louisiana State 27
This is a play in game. One of these two teams is out of the playoff picture come Sunday. Given their schedules the winner looks sealed into the 11th slot for the CFBP. I do not like the overall QB game for Milroe, but on the college level he is one hell of a weapon. The game is in Red Stick, though.

Georgia 28, Old Mississippi 24
Old Mississippi is another team that is sort of looking at the playoff buffet from outside, nose pressed against the window. It is looking pretty set for four teams from both the Big I Have Given Up Counting and God Apostrophe S Conference. Even winning out will not guarantee them an invitation, because they have five or six teams to leapfrog to get in. Beating Georgia is absolutely essential. They certainly could do it, because Georgia just seems out of sorts this year. Not picking it.

Texas 35, Florida 21
The Napier coaches out the string tour marches on. Texas is an interesting playoff case. Their big OOC win is not looking as big as it did at the time. That last game against TAMU could lead to a lot of two loss God Apostrophe S teams entering into the Thuderdome for a couple spots.

Tennessee 31, Old Mississippi State 10
Tennessee probably just needs to avoid slipping up. They have Georgia next week, and I am fairly confident that the loser, if they finish with two losses, will get in, though it is advisable to  avoid the scrum. But there is no room for error. Fortunately, Old Mississippi State is awful. Unfortunately, that last game at Vandy is dicey.

the Ohio State 45, Purdue 7
For the BIHGUC, on the other hand, the four teams seem set. There should be three teams that end the regular season with one loss, and Oregon. And yes I know who the plays in the last week of the season, and the Ryan Day record against them. This is not 2023.

the Pennsylvania State University 27, Washington 20
That one loss to the will not end the the PSU playoff hopes, but another loss probably would, because they will have no ranked wins. Washington is not is not a pushover, but they are making the three time zone jump, and the PSU has the better talent.

Our Lady of the Perpetual Tie 42, the Florida State 10
OLotPT is win and in. the FSU is nothing but a grease spot where a team used to be. Norvell is really putting my belief that you cannot fire a guy one year after he goes unbeaten to the test.

Texas Tech 41, Colorado 35
So, that leaves one slot each for the Atlantic [sic] Coast Conference and the Pure Prairie League, barring an unexpected second loss by, most likely, Indiana. Meaning someone gets a puncher s chance to make the playoffs by beating the U or BYU. The most likely teams are SMU and ISU, but they are idle. Colorado could sneak in if ISU falters again. They do have a really good offense. TIT U is coming off the high of ruining the the ISU season. Why not one more.

ClemSIN 37, Virginia Tech 24
Pitt 27, Virginia 20
Sorry boys. You shit the bed last week and are done.

Bowdoin 27, Colby 20
Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain over Benjamin Butler any day. Among other notable Colby Alums, the Wrong Daniel Webster, the Wrong Ben Bradlee, Doris Kearns Goodwin and my old friend Carl Glueck, CWRU Law, Class of 1985.
