Dismissing this as 'performative' misses the point. Politics is (dash) at least in part, and probably in great part (dash) theater. Of course it is a performance. Targeted at a room full of greedy, self-obsessed buffoons who hold inconceivable wealth and power in our dysfunctional society. It's specific. It's popular. And it's a threat.  Right in their faces.

It is literally speaking truth to power and it is also already been wildly effective at boosting the signal for this idea (which is POPULAR but forbidden to speak about).

The politicians, scientists, and media have all failed us.

Scientists,  when media and politicians do not accurately and responsibly report scientific findings,  fail to be heard in an undistorted way.   Actual scientists are why we don't have millions of dead -- they didn't fail us.   And their messaging has been consistent.  Masks catch a large percent of aerosols bearing virus particles.   Vaccines provide sufficient immunity to cut serious illness tenfold or more.   Social distance and ventilation reduce greatly the odds of breathing in viruses.   Science has been clear and it has never said any measure would be 100% protection.  Multiple measures gets us to maybe 90 percent,  which is very good with an airborne vector.

Just stupid.   Science never promised zero  breakthrough infections.   And much of the revised recommendations are based on new data emerging.   Science always warns that data can change the picture and require updates on how best to proceed.    Some of those listed contradicting guidelines are culled from public officials and not working scientists.  That officials make dubious claims is not a stain on science,  it's a very old stain on politics.   As Bart pointed out,  vaccines lower risks of serious illness tenfold.   But only if we all get them,  you imbecile.

Joe Biden, who follows the Science on Covid , and is calling for Vaccine mandates, just fell nine points on the
Quinnipiac poll.
In just one month Biden went from 53-40 approval on Covid to
48-49  disapproval.
Among independents his numbers  are 44-53.
And Covid is the single most positive issue Biden had during the presidential campaign(other than he was not Donald Trump).
