Traditionally, the Senate filibuster was reserved for only the most controversial issues, but its use has escalated in recent years, often slowing business in the chamber to a halt. Some lawmakers acknowledge that the filibuster, which has effectively set a 60-vote supermajority requirement for passing legislation in the Senate, could doom many of the proposals they have championed, including meaningful reforms on issues ranging from health care to climate change to gun control. Behind this dysfunction, the filibuster also has a troubling legacy - it has often been used to block civil rights legislation intended to combat racial discrimination.

People like RedDick treat a procedural rule like a Constitutional mandate. If we retain it, we should force them to actually do it. Actually spend days holding the floor. Maybe it can revert to a tool rarely used for things that matter most.

As always the guiding principle of ending the filibuster comes from those who did not get legislation they wanted.
Consider the Biden Build Back America bill that Joe Manchin gallantly filibustered into the Reduce Inflation Act, still a bad bill but not the disaster it could have been.
The Filibuster is the essence of democracy, it keeps debate and compromise alive to produce compromise and better legislation.  Without it every special interest group will cobble together 50 Senate votes only to see the other party do the same to repeal it once they get the majority.

Unless the American people happen to like the bill and benefit from it.  Congress creatures like to get reelected.

Fillibuster seems to me to be a 19th century practice that has no place in the fast paced 21st century when immediacy is required. What is the argument for?
