...thank goodness for refugees from countries where Marxist ideology was imposed in the last century, resulting in 100 million dead in Mao’s China, in Stalin’s Russia, and in Eastern Europe, Cuba, North Korea, Vietnam, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Afghanistan, and beyond.

Escapees from Communist China and the Soviet Bloc have inoculated America from the evils of Marxism in the past, but it seems every generation needs a new lesson.

Step forward the wonderful Xi Van Fleet, a Virginia woman who escaped China’s Cultural Revolution when she was 26, and gave her local Loudoun County school board a lesson in history at a public meeting last week.

“You are now teaching, training our children to be social justice warriors and to loathe our country and our history,” she said. “Critical Race Theory has its roots in cultural Marxism. It should have no place in our school.”

She recognized in CRT the same toxic ideology she suffered through from the age of 6 in Sichuan province.

“The Communist regime used the same critical theory to divide people. The only difference is they used class instead of race.

She likened the new “bias reporting system” and “Student Equity Ambassador program” set up in Loudoun public schools to the Chinese purges and denouncements in which children turned against parents, and neighbors turned on each other.

‘We were taught to denounce our heritage, and Red Guards destroyed anything that is not communist . . . statues, books and anything else. We were also encouraged to report on each other.”

She is concerned that well-meaning Americans don’t understand what she sees so clearly. “They are thinking they are doing the right thing,” she told Fox News. “ ‘Be against racism’ sounds really good. But they are basically breaking the system that is against racism.”

Thought provoking opinion piece from the NYPost.

I will now pause to give time to the CoW to demonize the Post, the writer Miranda Devine, and me for bringing this here.

That you still don't understand what a strawman is doesn't surprise me.    But thank God you no longer feel compelled to call Bankshot a child molester.
Clearly, because banks has joined his anti Larry cabal.
Nope I just thought Utley asked a legit on topic question.

"You say 'legit on topic question'.  I say 'trolling and race-baiting'." (sung to the tune of "Let's Call the Whole Thing Off").

Of course you say that. That's a classic woke playbook strategy: attack anyone who questions the woke-notions derigueur!

"Woke-notions derigueur!!!"  Now you're using one of them, there foreign dictionaries.  That you think you're entitled to the benefit of the doubt, that you actually wish to engage in serious, intellectual discourse, given your history here, is very amusing.  If you actually want to discuss these things, as I said earlier, you're probably better off going someplace where people don't think you're an asshole.

Back to the CoW playbook, I see.

Sad that you have to play such games. If only I was the only one you target this way, so be it, but you do it with several posters here.

Are hou trying to make up for something small in your life?

Or maybe it's what's happening in the Bronx that has you so unsettled that you wish to engage as such.

Whatever.
You're still here?

Strawman.  Restoring significant events formerly removed from history texts, like clearing Central Park or Greenwood District or Chavez Ravine, is the opposite of Maoism.  Maoism deletes history, to glorify the Party.  Teaching the dark events of our history is not really all that new, either.  When I was in school in the 70s, there was already a lot more being taught about the genocide and displacement of Native Americans.  And slavery.  And Jim Crow.  It didn't foster self-loathing then (just awareness of how achieving American ideals is a longterm struggle) and it doesn't now.

https://www.nj.com/education/2021/06/nj-district-erased-all-holiday-names-from-school-calendar-angry-parents-want-superintendent-board-to-resign.html

More than 2,500 people have signed a petition calling for the Randolph board of education to resign days after the district voted to remove the names of holidays from the school calendar following a earlier debate about how to refer to Columbus Day.

“(Superintendent) Jen Fano and all of the Board of Education Members have disgraced our community and clearly do not have the best interests of our children in anything they do,” the online petition started late last week reads. “They represent everything that is wrong in education today and are completely incompetent in every aspect of their role.”

The Randolph public school calendar will no longer list any holiday by name. Instead, they’ll be labeled generically — just as a “Day Off,” with no description of the reason behind it. The decision led to a firestorm of criticism.

On Sunday, the board of education issued a statement saying the “large public outcry” regarding the removal of the holidays is because their intentions were misunderstood...

...“Everyone should remember that the primary purpose of the school calendar is to inform parents when schools will be open and when schools will be closed,” the board said. “In essence, it is a school attendance calendar which is why we did not feel the need to list every state, federal and religious holiday on the one-page calendar that we adopt every year.”

This is a person who grew up in the Cultural Revolution seeing patterns in the application of CRT in schools that she does not wish to see repeated here.

Are you saying she has no reason for concern, given the long history of public educators' knack for oversimplification of complex thought and a full embrace of the cult of efficiency?

Critical Race Theory is mostly part of a law school curriculum. It illustrates how systemic racism affects aspect of law and society.

"Critical race theory attends not only to law's transformative role which is often celebrated, but also to its role in establishing the very rights and privileges that legal reform was set to dismantle....

Like American history itself, a proper understanding of the ground upon which we stand requires a balanced assessment, not a simplistic commitment to jingoistic accounts of our nation's past and current dynamics."

Making a big deal about CRT in primary education is a bullshit scare mongering argument just like the Mexican caravans, Defund the Police and the biggest bogeyman, Socialism.

CRT is not being taught in primary schools on a scale to merit this much hysteria.

Arrogant sort, aren't you?

That you still cling to that which has already been shown to be NOT what the discussion was about shows a tendency to be as narcissistic and dismissive as you claim others to be.

No one relies on you to define anything in a “discussion”, if that’s what you want to call it. No one abides by your definitions.

You are mistaking the conversation on the forum with the argument you are still losing with your ghost genitalia.

See a shrink. When she has you sedated, don’t write and tell us all about it.

As best as I can tell you and I are the only one to have seen Maher's comments in their entirety, or I know I did. Yet once the tone was set down by Elba's council of woke, that Maher is just a spoiled pot-smoking libertarian, taking a white boy's path of priviledge, yada, yada, yada, the politically correct view had been established, all without watching the actual editorial....

FtR,  I wasn't attacking Maher so much as Smuel's spin of it to concoct a strawman here and then ignore us when it's pointed out.

I've never fit any imagined "woke" template.  For example, I believe nations should have a single language and anyone who goes to live in that nation should speak that language,  period.   Unfortunately, when some RW partisan hears that,  they mistakenly think I'm with them on other issues,  when I mos def am not.   I just happen to diverge from many liberals on that issue,  and I'm consistent in my application -- any country you settle in,  learn the damn lingo.   (don't start an argument, it's just an example of how few people here really "march" in lockstep with a brigade)

I don’t watch his show anymore.

My biggest problem with Bill Maher is he is a raging Islamaphobe so I stopped watching him years ago. He’s gotten worse as years go by.

I don't know one wise person with time (and HBO) that doesn't (wouldn't) watch Maher.

One day you will make an acquaintance Kid, and it won’t just be you and your mama’s mummy in that cramped little basement staring up and out at the world.

Hopes and prayers in the meantime.

Not my point, which was not targeted at you. And so far a whole bunch of us here don't think it is a legit topic because the argument proceeds from a false premise. And, was posited here by posters that have a history.

Red's post was a troll. But it was legit post on Maher's editorial closing this week-end, and a topic discussed here in Elba over the  past few months.
And every body else has disagreed. Maher's editorial advanced from a false presumption. And his strawman is not something anyone here has discussed. Except notably for one racist who habitually attacks every call for racial justice.
Quote

And I wasn't aware that the Elba Council of Woke had put the the topic on its not to be discussed list.

those e-mails usually go to spam.
Fuck that counsel of woke horseshit. Everyone here has and expresses his own opinions you asshat. I was not aware you aspired to Hamhandedness, but if that is where you are going then fuck you hard.
