The author is a fool if they believe the Senate Dems (Manchin and Sinema, primarily) are any more willing to act than they were before the recent SCOTUS decision.

The filibuster is not going away.

I wish I thought otherwise.

Biden administration formally launches effort to return deported veterans to U.S.

It was revolting when Trump encouraged that to happen. Good for Biden for trying to undo it.

(The headline is from the WaPo. I am sure somebody else has the story, but I cannot be bothered to look for it atm.)

The family has retained the services of Benjamin Crump.

There is no reason for it to have taken eight days for the department to announce that there was no bodycam footage of the shooting.

Analysis of the announced numbers from Wednesday and the as of then uncounted absentee ballots - what Garcia would need to win them by to beat Adams and why she has a decent chance of getting them, based on which districts most heavily voted absentee and how they voted in person.

And discussion of the 2nd class citizens in our territories and in DC - many of whom are taxed without representation and millions of whom are not permitted to vote for president unless they move to a state or DC.

Biden administration formally launches effort to return deported veterans to U.S.

It was revolting when Trump encouraged that to happen. Good for Biden for trying to undo it.

(The headline is from the WaPo....)

The Biden administration unveiled plans Friday to bring hundreds, possibly thousands, of deported veterans and their immediate family members back to the United States, saying their removal “failed to live up to our highest values.”

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas ordered his department’s immigration agencies to “immediately” take steps to ensure that military families may return to the United States. He said the department would also halt pending deportation proceedings against veterans or their immediate relatives who are in the United States, and clear the way for those who are eligible to apply for U.S. citizenship.

“The Department of Homeland Security recognizes the profound commitment and sacrifice that service members and their families have made to the United States of America,” Mayorkas said in a statement Friday. “We are committed to bringing back military service members, veterans, and their immediate family members who were unjustly removed and ensuring they receive the benefits to which they may be entitled.”

If Garcia ends up winning, she'll have done so because she was a good politician. She was able to pick up a last-minute endorsement from Yang to be his voters' second choice. Given he had more than 100,000 voters who ranked him above any of the top three, this endorsement may have made all the difference.

The math of ranked choice systems delivers interesting results.   You can get,  as winner,  not the candidate that more people preferred,  but the one that the most people kinda liked.

Or to present it slightly differently, avoiding the ones that the majority of people did not want as much.

“I’m pleased to hear of the progress on a bipartisan infrastructure agreement, but before I vote for it, Senate Democrats need to come together and reach an ironclad agreement on passing a big, bold reconciliation bill that includes funding for home and community-based services.
We must seize this historic moment and continue the American Rescue Plan’s investment in our children and families. #CareCantWait “

I fear having intransigence on both ends of this: won't vote for the 3/4ths trillion without the big bill vs. won't vote for the smaller bill if it is tied to the big bill, leaving us with neither rather than both.

And I don't know how we get past that.

What goes around comes around

From Lexington to Concord to Wakefield

https://www.bostonglobe.com/2021/07/03/metro/state-police-standoff-with-armed-men-i-95-wakefield/

State Police said 11 suspects have been arrested during a Saturday morning standoff between officers and a group of armed men on Interstate 95 in Wakefield that began after a trooper stopped to assist two vehicles in the highway’s breakdown lane.

Law enforcement established a “hard perimeter” surrounding them, and police negotiated with the men, State Police Colonel Christopher Mason said during the press conference.

Mason said the men, who were armed with long guns and handguns and dressed in tactical gear, told the trooper they were traveling from Rhode Island to Maine for “training.”

I always stand around with my rifles/guns out while we're refueling by the side of the road.

I'm glad they're not anti-government, though I wonder which one they favor.

And the Maine State Troopers, FBI, and ATF have to be trying to find out where this training is and who else is there!
