Never been clear how a country that's a poorly conceived patchwork of about five distinct countries who don't like each other is worth soaking American taxpayers for two trillion dollars because of terrorists who can melt across remote borders whenever things get sticky.

I'm sure there's a humdinger of a reason!
Funny how you kept your fears quiet during the Obama years.

Astonishing as it now must seem,  I don't post all my opinions here on this board.  My doubts (fears would be overstating) about land wars in Asia have been held since the early seventies.   As LB points out,  we have a welfare program for the war industry.
A welfare program for the “ war industry”?
Boy  I bet that is special.

You should give a listen to President Eisenhower

And we have Oliver Stone, I just love Oliver Stone, and he is French.

Where did you get the idea that Oliver Stone is French, Tony?

Born in America. Served in the American military. Lives in America now.

Of course he is French. Why else would he have this outrageous accent?!

The Peace Corps volunteers can help in Afghanistan to help to expand farming in Afghanistan, etc.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peace_Corps

We need to bring in more volunteers who are doing things to help people, instead of just doing it for money.

Salute,

Tony V.

Taliban would probably shoot them...they shoot everyone else who tries to change them.

“Much has been said about preclearance and thousands of discriminatory voting changes, but in the Shelby decision, the dissent was written by Justice Ginsburg.  And she noted in her dissent the Court’s reasoning in Shelby was nonsensical: ‘Throwing out preclearance when it has worked and is continuing to work to stop discriminatory changes is like throwing away your umbrella in a rainstorm because you are not getting wet.’

Sadly, the Court has since continued that assault on the ballot.  So, H.R.  4, the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, would be a remedy to this assault and to restore the preclearance provision.”

Funny how not a single house republican believes his party can win a fair or free election. I expect in most cases they are absolutely right about this.

Leaving American citizens behind in Afghanistan at the mercy of the Taliban?
A very bad look. Goes against everything America stands for.
Joe should should tell the Taliban he wants them all...and to give them to him...or else.
Seems Joe doesn't have the will to do anything much to  save them.
My friend told me today that many Americans want Joe court martialled.

CNN reporter tweet about Pelosi.

“I asked Pelosi about the deal she reached with moderates when she walked off the House floor.

"What deal?” she responded. "They wanted clarification about how we go forward and that's what we did."

Yeah, I throw tantrums when Democrats do stupid shit but these 9 MMD flexed and slung a bunch of bullshit at the Speaker.

For what?

Make no mistake, they were carrying water for the multi-faced US Chamber of Commerce, and the other folks who don’t like the tax policies in the Big Fucking Reconciliation Bill. These folks figure if the bi-partisan deal passes the House right away then the big bill can be whittled down so that it no longer would be the agent of societal transformation. So Gottheimer took a shot.

Yeah... no.

Boss Pelosi treated them the way Michael Corleone dismissed Senator Geary.

So...Pelosi is a mob boss.

I see.

And a damn good one... if you want to be literal and see the US House of Representatives as rival mobs.
