A protest that was accepted by and at the Olympics without protest:

Speaking of "rules are rules" and absurdity:

https://www.cnn.com/2021/09/02/sport/muhammad-ziyad-zolkefli-late-stripped-tokyo-paralympic-gold-spt-intl/index.html

The shot putter was stripped of his gold because he arrived 3 minutes late to the competition.

They let him compete. He won.

Then, upon review, they determined he had no excuse for tardiness, so they stripped him of the gold. I wonder if, had he set a new world record, they would have claimed that didn't count either, despite no performance advantage.

I feel for Ms Richardson.

But rooting for others to get tossed isn't a great use of her time.

She's rooting for consistent treatment.

Do you believe that she should just shut up? Or is there a different tone you think she should have taken?

What should her position be?

Separately, is the skater's being a minor a reason to not ban her, reasoning that she had no agency? Even if you don't ban er, is excluding her while she is actively testing positive a reasonable step to take, instead?

How do we handle minor athletes with PEDs?

And should the penalty for pot be the same as for a PED?!

In our outrage at the Russian mistreatment of its young athletes, let us not rush to absolve the United States from its participation in and embracing of the "arms" race in ice skating, gymnastics, and others.

Are we better about it than the Russians? Probably, on average. But better doesn't equal good and our questionable methods push theirs. And better on average grants inherently that we have worse cases, not just better.

In the drive to make national pride and prestige the focus, it's easy to forget the Olympics are the Olympic games.

As for the inequal treatment of doping. It's worth asking in what sport (aside from maybe pie eating contests) could pot be a PED?  Whereas giving a 15  year old heart medication as an endurance booster is pretty clearly a PED violation (and one wonders what the side effects might be??)( several heart meds are dangerous to anyone with normal cardio function)
