I'll just repost this:

I thought the approval of the idea that we outsource our national security interests in the Middle East to the Russians was probably the best example we will ever have of how Trump has taken over the soft minds of the formerly “conservative” Trumpists.

But now just a few days later we get “I prefer diplomacy” when dealing with ISIS.

New lows set daily.

But it has nothing to do with keeping the Kurds alive.

They can choose to keep themselves alive

Sure.

Give up their homes and belongings and put down their weapons and trust that the Turkish military that already ignored their pause (what you kept erroneously referring to as a ceasefire) and continued to kill Kurds, including using white phosphorus on them.

Heartless bastard.

Amazing that we need to point to a GOPer stating the obvious, but anyway, here it is:

Wolf Blitzer: Do you believe it would be… [an] impeachable conduct to withhold $400 million in... appropriated military funding for Ukraine in return for political dirt on the Bidens?

Rep. Will Hurd: I think that would reach a level that we should be considering.

Pence says Trump to keep promise and bring troops home

Currently working on the permanent ceasefire between Turks and Syrian forces (can you imagine that if we still had troops where we had them?)

Pence is a liar. Nu?

And now that the Turks are where they wanted to be and have told the Kurds to leave or be destroyed, a ceasefire between the Turks and Syrians is feasible, Kid.

But it has nothing to do with keeping the Kurds alive.

There is no ceasefire with them.
Pence is a liar. Nu?

So weak.

'Permanent' Turkey-Syria cease-fire possible as temporary peace agreement ends, Pence says
Fox News, 1 hour ago

Defense Secretary Mark Esper said Monday that the U.S. was considering leaving some troops in the region to secure oil fields so they won't fall into the hands of the Islamic State (ISIS).

"There has been a discussion about possibly doing it," Esper said at a news conference in Afghanistan, but added: "There has been no decision with regard to numbers or anything like that."

Between 200 and 300 U.S. troops remained in southern Syria, at Al-Tanf.

Yup, all coming home, just like the Veep said! Except not.

Weak? The weakness is believing anything that comes out of his mouth - or yours.

Quote
As of 10 p.m. tonight [3 p.m. ET Tuesday], the time will expire. Our related agencies are monitoring the situation in the field closely. If the promises America gave us are not kept, our operation will continue," Erdogan said.

The tone was similar to what he displayed Saturday when he promised to "crush the heads" of the Kurds in Syria if they didn't fall back from the border's safe zone.

We make a deal and tell the Kurds that they have to respect it, though they had no say in it.

Sudetenland, anybody? I expect Neville Pence to come home and declare, "Peace in our times!" (I grant that none of Erdogan, Putin, or Abbas is hitler, but hearing Pence talk about this peace deal feels familiar.)

THIS IS WHAT STRONGMAN DIPLOMACY LOOKS LIKE -- MEANWHILE IN AMERICA

Quote
Turkey's President got the buffer zone he always demanded, pushing Kurds back from his border and biting a chunk off of Syria for himself. Russia's leader showcased his new role as mayor of the Middle East, and his military police will now jointly patrol the border of NATO member Turkey. And Trump gets to tell his voters he's bringing troops home — even if it's not quite true.

Over three years, it's become quite clear that Trump prefers the company of kingpins to diplomatic drudgery with US allies. That mentality harks back to his days as a real estate shark. Whether he's with business titans or dictators, life is much easier when you can parcel out the world with your strongman friends.

The problem is that he's playing out of his league. By letting veterans like Putin and Erdogan decide what happens next in Syria, he sent a message that the US is no longer the key global power in the Middle East. And by withdrawing US support from its Kurdish allies, he's dealing a grievous blow to America's moral power everywhere in the world.

Trump's suggestion that Russia and Turkey are stepping into a foreign quagmire still resonates with his most loyal political supporters. "America First," after all. But this episode also humiliates the US, whose troops were given just "one hour and 31 minutes" to leave Syria by Russia's defense minister.

It's all a sign that whether the President serves four years or eight, America's global footprint will have significantly shrunk by the time he heads home to Trump Tower.

ERDOGAN, AFTER RUSSIA DEAL, SAYS U.S. HAS NOT KEPT PROMISES ON SYRIA
BY REUTERS,  OCTOBER 22, 2019 22:52

Erdogan, speaking after striking a deal with Russia to remove Syrian Kurdish fighters from Turkey's border regions, was quoted as saying: "The U.S. has not fully kept its promises.""If we make compromises we would open the way for the terrorist organization," he added according to NTV.

Meanwhile...
https://www.jpost.com/Breaking-News/Afghan-rivals-to-meet-in-China-after-US-talks-stall-605510

Quote
China is organising talks among Afghanistan's rival factions as part of efforts to end years of war after negotiations between the Taliban and the United States on the withdrawal of U.S. forces broke down.

China, which shares a short border with Afghanistan, has been trying to encourage peace efforts and last month a Taliban delegation visited Beijing for talks with government officials."China has invited a delegation ... to participate in the intra-Afghan dialogue," a Taliban spokesman, Suhail Shaheen, said in a post on Twitter late on Tuesday.

The so-called intra-Afghan dialogue is aimed at reconciliation between Afghanistan's warring parties and has been running parallel to the talks between the insurgents and the United States.

Last month, U.S. President Donald Trump halted the talks with the Taliban aimed at striking a deal for U.S. and other foreign troops to withdraw in exchange for Taliban security guarantees, after the militants carried out a bomb attack in Kabul that killed 12 people, including a U.S. soldier.

The United States has been hoping that its deal with the Taliban would pave the way for a ceasefire and power-sharing talks between the Afghan government and the insurgents.

The Taliban have refused to talk to the government, denouncing it a U.S. puppet, but government officials have taken part in the intra-Afghan dialogue as private citizens.

So whats the bottom line?

The US troops got out of the area they needed to get out of before Putin's boys started shooting at them - but elsewhere, the US troops took out a bunch of the russian soldiers.

The US mercenaries have gotten their marching orders to go to Saudi Arabia.

There is no actual plan for what to do with the US forces that were formally working with the Kurds. And it is unclear that the troops we have left to "guard the oil" have anything to do there or will be allowed to continue to do what they are pretending to do.

Quote
:oit wasn’t immediately clear if the United States was seeking to prevent the Islamic State, Assad, Russia, or even Iran from snapping up the energy resources.

Experts also noted that keeping just a few hundred U.S. forces in Syria when facing a multitude of threats is “incredibly risky” and likely to be ineffective.

“It is hard to conceive of how such a small force presence will continue the D-ISIS [Defeat ISIS] mission, when they may have to spend most of their time protecting themselves from adversaries,” said Dana Stroul, a senior fellow at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy.

Stroul also noted that the plan could face some congressional backlash, as lawmakers have not authorized the U.S. military to protect oil in Syria.

Bottom line? The shitshow that your president has set off by giving in to Putin and Erdogan is not done spreading and causing death and misery.

Hundreds of thousands have already been forced from their homes unexpectedly. We don't know how many are dead so far.

And your comment about Pence's lies? Or Trump's lies?

"Weak."

From Ambassador Taylor's statement:

Quote
"...Ambassador Sondland tried to explain to me that President Trump is a businessman. When a businessman is about to sign a check to someone who owes him something, he said, the businessman asks that person to pay up before signing the check. Ambassador Volker used the [same] terms several days later while we were together at the Yalta European Strategy Conference. I argued to both that the explanation made no sense: the Ukrainians did not “owe” President Trump anything, and holding up security assistance for domestic political gain was “crazy,” as I had said in my text message to Ambassadors Sondland and Volker on September 9."

Quid pro quo.
