Why wasn't that guy being followed 24/7 by an armed agent ready to shoot him as soon as he grabbed the machete/knife?

If they'd tossed him in prison for 30 years instead of 3 years or in Gitmo until the war on terror is over he wouldn't have been able to stab people.

"Gun control champion" and "weapons trafficking" are not phrases you usually see going together to describe a specific individual.

I am not sure he got a long enough sentence.
