The US is adding one wuhan (50k total) per day in Covid cases.
Anyone talking about anarchists or cancel culture is an unpaid crisis actor.
LOL!
The ultimate of non-seguiturs.
As for the idiocy of cancel- culture

No g in sequitur.

Cancel culture is the language of the  powerless non-violent protestor.

You just don't want any challenge to power.

Given that Chomsky et al gave as much tongue-lashing to Trump and the RW as they did to liberal dogmatism,  I have to wonder if Ward actually read the posted link.   And I am not going to cut/paste snippets for our literacy-challenged constitutional scholar.  Generally,  had a pretty good belly-laugh at the thought of Ward citing Noam Chomsky as somehow supportive of his mindset.

These additional signers of the letter deepened the joke...

Other signatures attached to the letter include New York Times columnists David Brooks and Michelle Goldberg, CNN host Fareed Zakaria, The Atlantic writer David Frum, "The Handmaid's Tale" author Margaret Atwood and feminist icon Gloria Steinem.

The problem Ward has is that he doesn't see that most liberals have no problem with having RW spectrum views be platformed where everyone can see them,  and thus be aware of how many people are thinking.   Nor does he seem to grasp that all those signatories condemn Trumpian attempts at suppression and slander of the Left as a particularly odious example of "cancel. "
My,my. Barton waxes dumbfoundedly (and with predictable snark) trying to calm his illiberal rage that Chomsky has a point those on the right can agree with.
There is no joke to laugh at. Only the truth which drives Barton nuts.

Rage?   For a second there,  I thought you might be going to reply to my actual point.  Whew,  that was close.

Hilarious that my expressed support of RW free speech and public platforms,  and clear statement of support of Chomsky,  Brooks,  Atwood et al,  got so twisted.   I guess you didn't like that I pointed out that they also condemn cancel culture when the Right does it.   I was applauding their evenhanded application of a principle of tolerance.    Do you?   Or do you want to keep lying about what I wrote?

Some people believe China has fiddled the books with numbers.

But it doesn't matter,Bambi, in terms of being able to see that the virus is containable - it has been contained in several other countries about whom such suspicions don't exist except in the most paranoid.

It's containable, with the will to do so, but not otherwise.

Note, for example, what your own country is doing. Ours has not even given such an approach a shot.

I wonder why I bother to reply.   Sometimes it seems like Ward is a rusty weight machine.   I use him for exercise,  but like a real weight machine,  I am not actually performing useful work.   The weeds remain unpulled,  the mower still needs charging,  and we have to cut mats out of the cats fur.

Today's kinda sad,  though.   We were actually at a point where some convergence,  some slight agreement might have happened.

My, my.
I didn’t lie about anything. Chomsky underscored the truth that cancel -culture
bigots aren’t all dressed alike.
Which was my point.
If it is also yours good for you.
As for Chomsky’s view on the matter the fact that he, as a constant critic of right wing philosophies, points the finger back at the left makes the story much more meaningful.
I guess you didn’t like that.
Oh well.

15 per cent of COVID-19 patients will end up in the hospital.

True or False?

Unknown, if you mean "end up in the hospital because of COVID-19."

More than three months later, the coronavirus is blamed for 5,420 deaths in Sweden, according to the World Health Organization. That might not sound especially horrendous compared with the more than 129,000 Americans who have died. But Sweden is a country of only 10 million people. Per million people, Sweden has suffered 40 percent more deaths than the United States, 12 times more than Norway, seven times more than Finland and six times more than Denmark

What are the Sweden numbers by age - cases/deaths?

Google is your friend. So is Worldometers

Found some Sweden stats

80% of the cases of COVID-19 in Sweden are people under age 70

Just 11% of the deaths.

See, I told you so!

Good work.

Red,  I agreed with Chomsky et al. on the intolerance and dogmatism of some on the Left.   As I've said several times now.   Regarding this statement...

(from the Harper's letter)

The forces of illiberalism are gaining strength throughout the world and have a powerful ally in Donald Trump, who represents a real threat to democracy....

Do you like what Chomsky et al said there?   You agree?   Yes or no?

Added thought:

Red,  I'm guessing that you don't agree or stand with everything people on the Far Right,  like say Tom Cotton or Steve King, put out there.   Is this correct?

So,  why would you think I agree with everything that comes from the Left?  Why would you assume I disagree with a legitimate and thoughtful criticism of some on the Left?   Chomsky,  like many Leftists (technically he's an anarcho-syndicalist), has no problem with movements or factions engaging in self critique.  Nor do I.

My, My. I seemed to have touched a nerve.
I don’t shy from criticizing any politician.
If you want to discuss Tom Cotton maybe then you need to forward a few of his positions you don’t like. I don’t have any love for Steve King and have never discussed anything about him.

Meanwhile.  Your cat still needs your attention.
