The funny thing about all this is it's been well-known that Trump downplayed the virus.  Saying that there were 15 cases and it would be down to zero soon, or that it would go away on its own in April, etc.

The revelation isn't that he downplayed the virus.  You're right, we all knew he was doing it.  The revelation is that he did it while being clear-eyed about what the dangers were.

Trump gets a lot of benefit from being stupid.  The low expectations excuse a lot of what he does.  When he says things that make no sense regarding testing or masks, we all think well, he's an idiot who doesn't read, doesn't pay attention to briefings, just generally isn't interested in making decisions based on facts.

But we now know that he knew the facts.  Had at least enough grasp on the situation to have made the right decisions from the start.  But consciously chose to throw Americans into the fire to save the markets and his reelection prospects.

Trump tells Woodward on Feb 7 that the virus travels by air.  After that he held another month and a half of rallies with people packed close together.  What the fuck?

Republicans held two years of hearings over Benghazi(!) because they wanted to argue that Obama misrepresented a single terrorist attack that killed four people in order to avoid a political embarrassment.  Trump has misrepresented a virus in order to avoid political pain and as a result has killed 200,000 but Republicans are like "Meh, you know, didn't want a panic."

Just so atrocious, there aren't words for it any more.

It’s the same story with Russia and his taxes.

Lots of interesting stuff here from current and past polling, including on 2016 Trump voters and post-Woodward Tapes.

Whose calls have not been returned? You meant "her calls", right?

Yes, thats what I meant.

For fun I scrolled through Trump's twitter to see if his thumbs had any time for the events in the West that will end up displacing over a million Americans.  Nada.

I guess he just doesn't want people to panic.
Not that I would do the research but according to those that have he has not mentioned the fires in speeches or tweets.since mid August when he once again blamed fires in Cali on their failure to rake their forests.

It's an addendum to the RCP chart

And Newsom points his finger at the feds.  Predictable.

Not sure where you see that.

But note you say nothing about Trump's repeating his idiotic order that we sweep the forest floors of leaves to prevent fires.

Neither Trump nor kiid have any conception of the point of National Forests. Not to mention, the scale of the job in a state like California.

The scale of the job would be outrageous of course.  There is also the not small point that decomposing organic matter is essential food for the plants living there, there are insects and animals living on the forest floor that would get swept up in this absurd operation, not to mention smaller scale plants that are equally essential to the life of the trees and wildlife...

Its dumb as hell.  And Finland told him so when he tried to hold them up as an example.

We’ve got enough unemployed people out here to give it a go.

Every day with the trump administration gets a little more trumpy.

Trump is a goon and a grifter magnet. The only positive thing he has done in office is expose the nexus of crime and white republican culture by moving into the center of it and doing the things that got him picked last for team sports as a kid.

Why does Smokey Bear say to clean your campsite before departing?

Maybe the Finnish leader can tell us.

I'd love to know how Newsom is using the $5 bil that Gov Brown earmarked to combat the problem.

Well.  It is reassuring, at least to me, that the plants and wildlife were well fed as they were incinerated.
