The phrase I hear over and over in interviews and personal conversations is, “vote like your life depends on it!”

I am voting as if your life depended on it, Larry. As if mine did. As if my 80 year old mother-in-law's did and her neighbor at their quasi-independent living facility did. As if my many LGBTQ former students' lives depended on it and their toddler and pre-school children's lives, as well.

I am voting as if there were hundreds and maybe thousands of children illegally separated from their children whose lives depend on my vote and tens of thousands of DACA folks, too.

I am voting as if I gave a fuck about lives outside of my circle and outside of my lifetime in decades to come.

(I'm not chiding you. I'm reacting to what I view as both about the only way to get too many people to vote and a far too shallow way to think about it, though if that is what it takes...)

US sends planes full of money to Iran?

The money lading the plane was the Iran govt's money -- which they had sent the US to pay for an arms shipment -- the US impounded it back in 1979/80 and held on to for decades, and never sent the war planes it was supposed to buy.  With interest it had grown a lot.  The US never had any legal claim to the money, and likely impounding it for so long was illegal under international law.

Iran was wealthy and peaceful.  Then the CIA installed a puppet King which led to a fundamentalist religious cult backlash.

And democratic.
The US just didn't like the winner since he was planning to nationalize the BP oil fields.  So we had him killed.

But yes, the theocratic regime was blowback for our CIA assassination and installation of a puppet ruler.

I'm going to show my NJ mail-in ballot to some Chinese friends this afternoon and then plunk it into the Chinese postal system.

Btw, due to the CV-virus, Trump trade wars with China, and some reports of unwanted seeds being mailed from China, China has suspended package delivery to the US indefinitely.  No air mail packages.  Though letter service still on going.

I get where you’re coming from but the folks I’m talking about take this literally.

Can you imagine how people felt waiting for Plessy to make it through the courts?

I can.

OMG, Plessy.

Or Dred Scott.

Or too many other abominations that passed for Supreme Court "justice."

Yes, Larry, I have no difficulties imagining that or countless other things that I try not to think about in the hour before bedtime.

Nor trouble extrapolating from the few marked incidences of bigotry and raw ignorance directed at me to the lives of those for whom it is a daily or even hourly and constant experience. I don't know that I needed them to do so, but I have them, regardless, even if I don't have the horns my campers thought I must if I was Jewish.

If I were Biden, I'd skip the last debate.  No benefit to having Trump call you and your family criminals on national TV.  Biden doesn't need the headache.  Don't treat Trump as though he were a normal politician/human being.

And my final campaign message would be:

Don't just vote as if your life depended on it
Know that lives do depend on your vote.

Save lives -- vote Biden.

https://www.cnn.com/2020/10/12/health/johnson-coronavirus-vaccine-pause-bn/index.html

Johnson & Johnson has halted their vaccine trial due to " an unexplained illness in one of the volunteers."

Quote
"Following our guidelines, the participant's illness is being reviewed and evaluated by the ENSEMBLE independent Data Safety Monitoring Board (DSMB) as well as our internal clinical and safety physicians. Adverse events -- illnesses, accidents, etc. -- even those that are serious, are an expected part of any clinical study, especially large studies."

ENSEMBLE is the name of the study. The quote above is from the article, from a release from J&J.

Excess Deaths From COVID-19 and Other Causes, March-July 2020

In other words, the true death count in the US from COVID-19 is roughly 50% higher than the official tally, or ~330,000 dead from the coronavirus and its handmaiden, Donald J. Trump.

Quote
"Although total US death counts are remarkably consistent from year to year, US deaths increased by 20% during March-July 2020," according to the research, authored by Dr. Steven Woolf and colleagues at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine and the Yale School of Public Health.

"Covid-19 was a documented cause of only 67% of these excess deaths," the researchers wrote.

The Georgia machines being used for the election have major flaws, according to the judge, but it was too close to the start of in person voting to make the change to paper ballots for *this* election.

The case is not over, but the issue is for the 2020 general election.
