My original post, facts of which you refuse to answer

Remember " How Democracies Die" by Harvard intellectuals ?  Another best seller comparing
Trump to the autocracies that befell Hungary and Turkey.  The authors now admit " American  democracy is not dying".
No shit.

Anything in that post you think merits a response?
I knew you your ego would not prevent you.
Quote

“Trump’s incompetence is a good thing for democracy,” Levitsky said. “He has authoritarian inclinations, but he hasn’t been able to put them into practice.”

If that’s what you are celebrating, you are sunk.
If you agree with Levitsky then Levitsky sank you
Quote

Levitsky also credits the courts, mueller probe and the media for keeping Trump in check.
ROFL all democratic institutions  Are you even paying attention?
Quote
Notice who he doesn’t credit?  A Republican Congress that gave him a pass on anything and everything, congressmen who still cover for Trump on Russia when they have zero idea what they are covering up.
A GOP Congress than supported and/or initiated an economic plan that has the American Economy SMOKING!
How is Russia doing?
Quote
That people have faith in Democracy with Democrats more in charge?  Again, you think that makes your case?
Yes, the very essence of my post that went clear over your head.

lol.

On the other hand, after a really revolting effort by Texas Republicans to eliminate one of their officials because he's a Muslim, the people of the GOP rejected the effort in no uncertain terms.

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/texas-republicans-clash-over-efforts-to-oust-muslim-county-official

This is the second time in a short period that the people of the Party have stood up in defiance of their so-called leadership.

Move along, nothing to see here. And Red got his tax cut and pro-life justices!
And you got a booming economy, record unemployment, (especially for blacks and hispanics) 3 per economic growth, 3 per cent wages increase, and low inflation.  Thanks for asking.

All straight continuations of trends from his predecessor.
There is no continuation. If there was Hillary would be President.

Lol. REDSTATEWARD touts his use of “facts” than has none when he gets real ones in response. Quoting the Wall Street Journal has its limits, clearly.

And so the new Congress takes charge with the spotlight on Nancy Pelosi and the democrat takeover of the House.
Funny how the fears of Trump fascism aren't talked about now since our democracy held serve in off-year elections like they normally do.
"Fascism: A Warning" by Madeline Albright, a New York Times Best Seller two years ago, is not even a seller now.
How did the Trump the autocrat derail democracy?  Uh, he didn't.  Nor did he try to.
Elijah Cummings, the new House Oversight Chairman, was on 60 minutes yesterday.
His priorities?
The high cost of prescription drugs and the misuse of private aircraft by Cabinet officials.
Sounds like business as usual in DC.

No shit.

Held serve?
Yes.
Assuming you pay attention to history.
Obviously you don't.

Biggest popular vote drubbing in midterm history is just holding serve...nothing but the facts from REDTATEWARD tonight.
Holding serve
You may want to cut the hyperbole in half and still think about it.

The facts you cite don’t make the case you are trying to make.
I quoted facts that make my case. You can't refute them so you ignore them.

You are here, to be sure.

And I think you are a very good representation for your side - you make it clear exactly what your side stands for.

Sensing this tawdry horse pile of an administration nearing its close, The Atlantic has published a ton of interesting pieces on this fractured farce and it’s spittle flecked snort-a-minute lonely loony leader while he’s still here.

A sample,

Redacting some of the Michael Cohen congressional testimony to delay Individual 1 embarrassment might be the leverage that reopens government while putting off till after further discussion, action on border security, immigration, and a wall.

The final calculus is trending toward money for border security, a huge liberalization of immigration policy which is very popular and a tiny amount of wall to let the saddest loser save a little badly colored face.

Forget that saggy wrinkled Baby across the Mall, Turtle needs to feel the heat turned up until he feels all cooked and soupy and slinks down the drain.

Here are the bones of the case against him,

http://www.alternet.org/2019/01/how-mitch-mcconnells-weak-kneed-cowardice-makes-him-the-perfect-target-for-perfect-for-agents-of-power-and-influence/

Earlier when the House had successfully impeached a Senator, the Senate chose to remove him rather than convict him. That would be a fine outcome in this case as well. It’s not politically motivated so much as it’s simply one of the clearest cases of ongoing corruption in plain sight ever in our history.

An unknown duration of “Lock him up!” chants has commenced. That will be with him for the rest of his term.

Perhaps a few rounds in chorus from the gallery (just some of the guests) during the Stare of the Union, if he’s brave enough to deliver one?

I was going to ask Red, who seems to have a route to peeking over the WaPo’s paywall, if he’d be kind enough to post text from Max Boot’s “18 Reasons”. I was worried the blind slug might have me on iggy.

Then I happened upon this,

http://youtu.be/W2DxiDNRhzc

It’s six minutes. Clear as death.

Somebody else had another way of saying it, which also got revived recently as it is once more applicable.

Quote
A federal judge in Washington on Tuesday refused to force the government to pay federal employees who have been working without compensation during the partial government shutdown, rejecting arguments from labor unions that unpaid work violates labor laws and the Constitution.

U.S. District Judge Richard J. Leon said it would be “profoundly irresponsible to issue an order that would result in thousands of employees staying home from work."

"At best it would create chaos and confusion,” Leon said. “At worst it could be catastrophic. . . . I’m not going to put people’s lives at risk.”

-The Post

Erm, I thought the judge's job was to interpret the law and make rulings on that basis, not making broad decisions about what's best for everyone in our society.   Address the question:  does forced work, in this context, violate labor law and the Constitution?
