not the prettiest win I've seen but the D , both sides was dominant

What a great game. I was like a pig in mud watching all that great defense. It's too bad one of those defenses had to lose.

I had the same reaction. It really was the closeest thing we had to "old" school physical defense dominated football in awhile. The game really was trench warfare.

and for the most parts the refs let them play.
Your team won (Congratulations) but that does not change the fact that it was a dull, crappy game.
And the MVP was an offensive player proving, once again, without an offense a team can’t win.

No it proves the voters picked a guy who had a visibly great game with stats. If Gilmore had another pick, he would have won it, mostly as a proxy for the Pats defense, which really won the game.

I have no opinion about a game/event I have not watched since Reagan was in the White House.
But if Banks says it was a great game, it was a great game.
Anybody who can claim a football game that went into OT "wasn't even close" has rare insights
Into the game of football that no mere mortal could possess.

Deej

I didn't say the SB just played was a great game, but rather it was a close defensive battle that had me engaged from opening kick to final whistle.

Some called it unwatchable, and with that I disagreed, In fact I'm watching it again as we speak.

I found the game refreshing from the all offense all the time games that have become so prevalnet in the NFL.

The game was very much a throwback to a style of football played 20+ years ago.

And if you could refresh my memory which OT game, did I say wasn't even close and which SEC institution of higher learning did I unfairly malign?

I'm going back to the game.

Gotta see how it turns out.

What I want to know is where this defense was in last year's Super Bowl!

Had your team been on the short end of a defensive 13-3 game, I can assure you no one would have uttered the word "Unwatchable".

Truer words have never been spoke.

The "unwatchables" are just spewing out their sour grapes, nothing a little mouthwash won't cure.
The OT game was the pro championship game, not a college game.
You maligned my opinion about the Bama game saying I "Cherry-picked my stats" when all I
Did was post some stats readily available.
Our difference is nothing more than what constitutes an "ass-kicking".
Many like to throw that expression around to show their glee that a comeuppance has occurred.

Peace and Prosperity, Banks!

Jeebus Deej are you still sore that Bama got their ass kicked?

They did.

and i wasn't gleeful about it, I was happy as I had Clemson and points, but the wager wasn't large enough for gleeful.

i just posted about what I saw.

And my team has been on the short-end of some unexpected defensive struggles in the SB. and you're right no one said those games were unwatchable.

Still don;t know what OT game you're refering to, or the comment. I usually remember shit I post.

Peace Deej

Going into 4Q in the SB

its a nail-biter at 3-3

This would make more sense to me had last year's Super Bowl been different. And it still makes more than a little sense - though if all that were true, where was the genius when Drew Bledsoe was his QB?

Deej

I'm sorry if that post upset you, but if you'd point out anything that was incorrect or misleading in my post please do.

and having just watched SB 53 again, it was eminently watchable.

If you liked football,

The whole world hated the game except New england fans.

Should tell something to the New england fans.

If they have frontal lobes.

And folks like you would be talking about how wonderful the game was, Kam.

Maroon V would still have sucked.

Kam's just in a funk. He's lost and wondered over here looking for his pet unicorn which has gone missing.

Best of luck son, and in the meantime, here's a longform article written by ESPN.com's lead football analyst, Bill Barnwell, (used to write for the old Grantland) about the game.

It might help explain the nature of game to a novice fan who was more invested in the guacamole than watching a defensive slugfest.

http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/25921740/super-bowl-liii-was-greatest-defensive-performance-history-here-how-patriots-did-rams

At the end of a dour Super Bowl in Atlanta only a mother could love, it really shouldn't have been a surprise that Bill Belichick was the one standing triumphant.

Last year, Tom Brady produced what was arguably the greatest single performance in Super Bowl history, only for Belichick's defense to get run over by Eagles backup Nick Foles. On Sunday, with Brady struggling en route to his worst passing performance in a title game, Belichick's defense saved the day. The Patriots delivered Belichick's masterpiece in their 13-3 win over the Rams.

What we saw from the Patriots on Sunday night was the best defensive performance we have ever seen in a Super Bowl.

and good luck finding your unicorn.

Seems to me we should be more appreciative of this particular Pats SB win - its first since 2004 that wasnt HANDED to them (unless you count the phantom call 2 weeks back of the Chiefs roughing the passer and thus dont consider this legit either)

Rams were beat.
Seattle and Atlanta handed games to NE.

I'm not sure why people comtinue to underestimate coaching, preparation, situational football, and execution in the game.

But having said that you should probably watch the Seattle game (SB49) again. The Pats controlled the first half, got outplayed in the 3rd qtr and dominated the 4th gtr.

The Pats won a game they mostly (75%) dominated on the field.

SB 51 was weird and there was seemingly no way the Pats should have escaped the 28-3 handcuffs they were in mid-way through the 3rd qtr, but they kept on playing and won the war.

To suggest they were handed that win is ridiculous.

it was passed to them.
