And then when the final whistle is blown, the refs can tack on a few more minutes of playing time, as they do in European football.

I like the sudden death TD aspect, if the defense can't prevent a first possession TD, maybe they deserve to lose. Make one fucking stop.

So maybe the OT extra quarter is just played out to the full time? Then each team may get multiple chances to take the ball.

It worked in the past.

I like this.

If I knew I was going to get a chance to score no matter what I'd want the ball second every time. I think every coach in America would too.

Don't you think it makes a difference if you're the home or road team, especially in a playoff game?

Not really Hammy. If you get the ball last and know you have to score then you get the advantage that the first team didn't have. 4 down football. The other team was working off of 3 down and then either decide to punt or go for 4th down. When you play 4 down football your options change and the defenses problems increase. It's not a guarantee of success, but it is an edge.

I think that we all agree that both teams should get at least one offensive possession (unless the defense scores on the first offensive possession of the OT).

Is there anything else we have ever all agreed upon?!

Hammy is an asshole?

Except it applies equally to the other team: if they can't prevent one, whether or not they have scored already, then they don't deserve to win.

Once again, the four down ball applies. The first defense (most likely) gets to play 3 down defense at least generally speaking. The second defense gets the 4 down ball if the other team has scored. Of course, on the flip side if they stop them once it's over.

But options the offense has really weighs in their favor, especially on third down calls. Normal 3rd down rules would not necessarily apply.

Josh already posted about this, but I have no idea what about him I had wrong.

And I assure you, as somebody who makes more mistakes than you make decisions, Kid, I will not run out of things or people to be wrong about.
