Not fiction,

Walking down the sidewalk and Igraine says... I think that was Gay Talese that we just passed.

The dapper gentleman turned to profile. I recognized the nose. Yup. But she was already gone.

She sidled up and waited till the conversation with the Maitre D had ended and said "Excuse me, are you gay?" (capitalization for comedic effect in that she meant Gay, but right as it came out of her mouth she knew that this could be trouble.)

No need to worry, in that she knew Mr. Talese. They had worked together (after a fashion) in 2014 as he was updating a book he had written about the Ironworkers who built the Verrazano Bridge 50 years earlier.

We had a pleasant time catching up and whatnot. I was introduced to his wife Nan. They are a lovely couple. It was one of those "NY Stories" that writers write about. (I'm certain Mr. Talese is, at this very moment, pondering the possibilities of the single question I allowed myself to ask.

And now, as with all NY moments. This one has come to its natural conclusion.

Artists and Exhibitions / Re: Arts and Exhibitions

Real quick...

Van Vogh Immersion in NYC.

My over all is Don't go.

Expensive. Difficult (Three Industrial stories high by steep steps!) Interesting. Semi Immersive. Designed for crowds as though it were a World's Fair Exhibition. First is gift shop along side a collection room that explains the paucity of pictures as feature; not bug. Because it echoes Vinnie's relentless repainting of the same goddamned subjects again and again! (they didn't use those words.) But you know and I know that they got the cheapest license that they could. (or maybe the most expensive one they could, but they didn't have much of an art budget).

That room leads to the next bladder room... Then it's through the curtain into the immersion. You step into infinity as there are stars and lights coming at you from inside a vast chamber.

Then your eyes adjust to the dark. You see that you are in a room that might be the better part of a quarter block of NYC. Walls are (judging by the stairs) 20-30 high. On the walls are projected, a collage of Van Gogh imagery and Iconography. Did I mention that they wanted to highlight Vincent's stay at the Asylum in Arles? So the primary image which frames the other images, is the asylum walls and turrets!

You feel like you're in the asylum. You can debate whether this is the effect of the art and therefore valid. I tend the other way.

Your newly acclimated eyes catch the concept, there is a thin rug on the industrial floor and there are mats spread out like so many blankets for lovers out to view the starry nights in each other's eyes. Except, the ground is concrete. And my bones are cranky from a day of sight seeing. But, ok fine. lay down and look up at the sky. Except there are no images on the ceiling. You have to crank yourself into some semblance of upright to see the walls. The floor is... Who the living fuck cares about the floor? Stars are on the floor, ooh!

The dozen or some image they had license to are chopped and "animated". The music is thunderous, it runs with the choreography of the film, but it has fuckall to do with Van Gogh, or Arles or the era, or anything other than the display.

Who are we here to celebrate? The technology that utilizes digital projectors? The Artis who cut and pasted the images? The music? The Asylum? Because it sure wasn't doing much for Van Gogh.

The prodders came along to move us along now. The next room is the play room where we were given a mammograph of Vince and some crayons! Color him in and hang it on the wall (I guess you can then say you work hung in the Van Gogh exhibition!)

For an extra fee you can be reimmersed in VR Goggles. No thank you.

Then comes the treacherous decent of mount NoSpaceWasted stairs.

This place is a no...

One more NY story  in Non Fiction.

Theater / Re: Theater
« on: November 23, 2021, 02:50:59 PM »
Real quickly... (as if)

We were going to the city (NYC) on Friday and it was Wednesday night. Igraine perused the avails for scalped Tix for American Utopia. We're both of an age and a wave such that it is attractive. Scalped tix are too high! but the show's site says use "XYX" (sorry) box office for tix. There they were, two of them, for Friday night! At face. What's so unusual about that?

They were Front Row Center! (ok two, maybe 4 off dead center) David Byrne himself leaned over the edge of the stage (A assert that he did a quick pause gasp when he caught sight of us.)

We would not trust that we were going to see the actual show until the curtain went up. How could such seats be available? This is half the reason for this post, is to tell you, that vaccinations work. Nobody un vaccinated was sitting in that theater. I didn't miss them, so if they'd all like to stay out of my way, that'll be ok with me.

The show is great. It starts with DB giving a monolog about where the various processes of our day to day occur within our brains. Meanwhile great curtains of chain links were pulled up to create a space that was void of distractions. DB has his own philosophy about the sparseness of the set. But what this is is really a DB concert, utilizing the technology in a DB way.

Singer, Guitar, Bassist, Backup singing dancers (two) and several many drummers playing specialized carriable drumsets. All electronics are wireless, so the sound can move around the stage and make noise have motion. (I particularly enjoy this break from the norm.)

The song are good. The message is (essentially) Peace. Just let the vibe be a good vibe.

It was a while ago, and I don't recall the set list. I understand it has been on TV in its entirety.

The point was, it was a great time. Not least of why being that I have never been FRC (ish) nor do I expect that I will be later. But I got to because the opportunity is there.

It is worth your time to check for yourself. NYC is opening back, and soon you're not going to get to touch good seats without the scalper in the middle.

I say this not only about Broadway, but the rest of NYC too.

OK now I'm leaving, to talk about Art and Exhibitions.

Thank you, gentlemen,

Nice to see you as well.

I see the whole gang seems to have survived, forgive me if I haven't noticed a departed friend (or foe).

Flying to the Coast West first flight out from Newark. Lookit me! Travelling on the busiest day of the year. I'm practically domesticated!

Thanks for giving me happy. Maybe ( Tony V., you inspire me too) if we looked at it as Thanks Forgiving Day, we'd all be happier.

Got to go pack, but first, a theater review.

Greetings Earthlings,

I'm sure you were wondering just the other day, Whatever happened to It'z Me, who? You know, #1... Who? Ragstagragafrag?

Oh, yeah, him... No.

I don't have much of interest to add (or subtract) to the discussion. Since I'm going to my sister's house (It will be just her, my girlfriend and I) I won't be needing to pack any vitriol to spill in the victuals this week. I'm not plugging a movie or other project here today either.

Just thought I'd stop by and say hello.

I have been working on a rant about how the "Self Esteem," building of the past decades seems to have bitten us squarely on the round rump. Today there is a large group of people who seem to think that "Participant Ribbon" is the gold medal and they have a closet full of them, so you ought to be paying them proper respect! After all there's nobody else in the whole wide world that's more important than they.

It's still in the early stages (the rant, not the disorder) I can't deny that there is a "Sounds like a personal problem..." involved here, but I still think that there is still enough meat on this bone to maintain my membership in the "Crazy Uncle Club."

Also, while I admire(d) the guy for his determination. Elon Musk is turning into an enormous dildo. Bigger than Jeff Bezos', so he's still beating him.

Hello.
Thank you for your warm remembrances and maybe your warmer "who Dat?"

Joe has always been a game of "hot potatoe" [sic] in that defending him can result in exploded potato burns on your face.

I nearly never think "he says what I think"

I won't forget his bipartisanship vis a vis Clancy Thomas (which bugs me most in the Tara Reid situation). Of all the times to be bi-partisan.

The Democrats ought to shift attention nationally to capturing the Senate, House and statehouses. That ought to be the case they make. But nobody is going to ask me, so...

I'm multiple news cycles behind, but my favorite was the guy saying "I got a feeling 2021 is gonna be a bad year" (not a quote) the implied next line being "Especially if Trump and we see it in together." If that doesn't make people wonder who we want working where, I don't know what will.

Downside is that it will allow for, "Don't change horses mid stream." Perhaps an ad that shows a horse<s> going </s>charging over the waterfall with a rider wearing a MAGA hat. The Donkey with the rider's hand still outstretched to help, is walking towards the far bank.

Back to "Normal?"

The other sunny day I was working on my front porch (a car had whacked it) and there was a woman walking by. She was in my neighborhood but I had never seen her before. Now, keep in mind that I am just feet away from the sidewalk, and that I delight in saying something cheerful to the people who happen by, pretending not to want to be disturbed (more on this later) I thought about whistling at her. After all, "normal" is that construction workers whistle at pretty women as they pass. But it quickly occurred to me that there are some parts of "normal" that we DON'T want to return to.

Capitalism, for example. How can multi billion dollar corporations need a bail out after two weeks of slowed revenue? How can we say that it is a working system if 48,000 people committed suicide in 2019 during the go go boom of our miraculous economy? That is not a working normal that I want to go back to.

Ok that's enough ranting for now...

Thanks for reading.

HEY!

I made it! I got back.

Oh you lucky peoples! ( winky )

Here is hoping everyone(?) is well(?).

I don't have time ("I need more time, captain.) right now to go back and see what has been said. Not for lack of interest in what you've said, but lessened interest in the subject matter. I'm not sure why that has been.

Hopefully I will, but I am "shacked up" with a new woman. I'm only a few blocks from the my house, wife and grown daughter, at least for now (yes, I'm bragging. You would too, if you were me.) Point being that I don't have spare time, except for as I set up this computer.

Which reminds me... does anyone know why I can't seem to set up bitlocker on my new (to me) Lenovo Yoga Laptop with Windows 10 Pro installed?

I want you all to know that I think of this place and the places before it as happy places. I've enjoyed the time I've otherwise wasted with you. I learned a lot about me, a little about you and a lot about the world from those interactions.

Not sure I would call this an all out  war.  But lets see it play out

This is how I would like you to "See it play out!"  See the actual death and dismemberments the blood the guts the horror, the reality of what this President (and you apparently) see as equivalent to two young boys on the playground.

Since you're talking about new material and 11:00

Can I just shout out for Trevor Noah? He is killing it on the Daily Show. And to Seth Meyers. I remember saying that NBC ought to put Seth Meyers' "A Closer Look" on just before Fallon (the idea was not widely received) But Meyers' bit is excellent. And of course Colbert. Who is slowly making Mime, acceptable!

Observational bias, I know.

Reminds me, I haven't seen John Oliver in a long time. IS he still doing well?

Uninformed first Impression.

I tend to believe Hilary.

I also believe Gabbard when she says that Hil is a queen of War monger.... blah blah blah.  I think it is smart strategy for her to pop in the polls if she has some hill to climb, so to speak.

Also, it's not like Hilary to tear someone down without some sort of evidence; and it would be wrong of her to do so. (Not that I haven't been disappointed by the Clintons before.) She knows that, she knows what sticking her neck out does. She knows what falsely accusing someone would do to her "legacy." She is not that cra!

Hil is that personification because it is generationally convenient to leave that stuff on her (stuff that was outrageous when she did it be not before, and not after!) We in our generation are kind of willing to let her carry that luggage for us, so we can pretend it's not ours. In the next generation it's more a case of "Ewwwww; old people stuff! Get it away!"

Trumpelstilskin, it's funny 'cause it's true!

Yes, Jonathan, derp!

No wonder I don't post with the smart kids anymore!  ;)

Meanwhile, I think her response was very good.

Meanwhile, meanwhile... I don't even know how Lyndon LaRouche's people can be "Pro Trump."

https://www.businessinsider.com/pro-trump-group-behind-aoc-protester-calling-to-eat-babies-2019-10

Sorry, I forget how to make links pretty here.

This is a link to an article that identifies the woman at an AOC townhall who wore a shirt that included "Eat The Babies" as a far right plant.

So OK... But what I first thought when I heard about the shirt was Thomas Swift's pamphlet "A Modest Proposal" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Modest_Proposal

I was a little disconcerted that AOC or SOMEONE didn't catch the reference (if indeed it was intended or even if it wasn't) and give a chuckle, to this nyuckle head.

So I thought I might bring it here to see what the smart kids have to say about it.

FWIW, my congressman asked me if he should go forward with an Impeachment program. I said "Yes" Not that Trump will be convicted, but it gives the Dems at least the copy. At least they can use it against the Senators running, and House hosers too. "(S)He won't break with Trump even when he is so wrong as to put his own economic interests ahead of people being killed in Ukraine." (Trump wants to be re-elected because he makes a fortune off his graft and corruption and emollients as he immolates the Constitution!)
