Hint #3
2nd round pick by PHX.
Had a fine rook season (nearly 16 / 5 / 2 steals; 52% FG), including solid playoffs.
Then coked out of the league the next year.
Had two comeback years in which he played sparingly.
Done by age 26.
So either you caught his nice rook year or you missed his career.

As a rook, Dumas started in the Finals for the Barkley led Suns.
And played well.  G5 of the Finals he toed for the team lead with 25 points on 12-14 FG.  In the Finals he averaged nearly 15.8 PPG, just a little less than Majerle and Kevin Johnson (both 17.2 Pts).

Jordan retired after that Finals, and the Barkley Suns might have had those Rockets titles if Dumas stayed clean.

Suns v Rockettes in 94 was evenly matched in the West playoffs.
PHX won the first 2 games in HOU.
Vernon Maxwell saved HOU with a 34 pt G3, as HOU rallied from an 8 point halftime deficit in PHX.

There's an instance where Dumas, a rangy 6'7" guy, could have helped.

G4 HOU pummels PHX despite 38 from KJ.
So a 2-2 series with the Home team losing all 4.

G5  PHX can't score.  Majerle a goose egg.  Could have used Dumas' scoring and threat of scoring.  But maybe still get blown out.
G6 a PHX blowout, as AC Green starts and goes for 22/10.
(Ceballos just 3 mins)
So both team hold Home court with blowout W's.

G7 in HOU.  Rocks with a 4 point lead going into the 4Q.
Sam Cassell with 22 off the bench; Ainge 18 off the Suns bench.

Rockets had that kind of playoff run, where one game Max or Cassell or Mario Elie would have a big game to keep them chugging forward.  All 3 of them had one big game in this series.

Ceballos started the first 5 games with Dumas suspended for the season.
Start Dumas a good 16 Pt scorer and have Ceballos off the bench and PHX is a stronger team. Games 6 & 7 Ceballos plays 3 mins each.  AC Green starts for his defense and spark.

PHX didn't match up well with Olajuwon.  But between Oliver Miller, Joe Kleine, Marc West and AC Green's help, they managed all right.

Two very evenly matched teams.  Add a quality starter who had played well through the Finals the year before, an athletic 16 point 2 steal Dumas, and PHX could have won.

G3, PHX had a chance at Home to go up 3-0.
Series went to G7, where PHX was just down 4 entering the 4Q.
One more good player, one more starter for PHX and the scales might have tipped.
Btw, Majerle had a terrible series.  Averaging just 9 Pts in 40 mins on 30% shooting.  (32% on 3's and 42% FT).  Some of his minutes could have gone to Dumas.  Since Thunder Dan was struggling.

Put Richard Dumas on the Knix that year and NYK wins the title over HOU!
(especially if he took minutes form 2-18 Starks in G7 ...)

I think kid might've been saying that had PHX advanced the KNICKS win the finals.  Just a guess.

EDIT: I think Patrick feared Hakeem a little but didn't lack for confidence vs Barkley.

The most recent drug ban was in 2016.  A guy who came into the NBA with lots of hype, but managed just an okay career.  One of that missing crop of all-star level SG's (along with Brandon Roy and Eric Gordon, both of whom got injured).

TYREKE Evans

1. Michael Ray Richardson
2. Chris "Birdman" Andersen'=

3. Lewis Lloyd
4. Mitchell Wiggins
5. John Lucas

6. Roy Tarpley x 2
7. Chris Washburn

8. Stanley Roberts
9. Richard Dumas

10. Duane Washington (Derek Harper's older brother) 19 game career
11. OJ Mayo (2016 received a 2 year ban, and hasn't returned)

Reke makes 13.

OJ Mayo was much hyped coming out of USC.  Was considered a can't miss prospect.  #3 pick in 2008.  Taken one spot ahead of Westbrook (with Love going #5; Knix nabbing Gallo #6; Eric Gordon 7th).  Mayo was actually drafted by Minny and then flipped for #5 pick Kevin love in a multiplayer deal.

Mayo was pretty solid his first two seasons, and then things went downhill.
His last three years in MIL, he seemed apathetic and not in the best shape.

The 1986 draft was the drug nadir for the NBA.

1   CLE   Brad Daugherty
2   BOS   Len Bias
3   GSW   Chris Washburn
4   IND   Chuck Person
5   NYK   Kenny Walker
6   PHO   William Bedford
7   DAL   Roy Tarpley

Bias had the worst possible outcome (and was set to join the championship Celts)

Washburn (72 game career), Bedford (later went to jail for 10 years for cocaine sales), Tarpley -- all were kicked out of the league for drug.  Tarpley twice.

So 4 of the Top 7 picks had drug shortened careers.

The 2nd round -- Marc Price, Rodman, Hornacek, Petrovic, Duckworth, Nate McMillan, Newman --  better than the 1st.

Knix would have been better off taking #8 pick Ron Harper.  Or #25 pick Marc Price.

Sabonis was terrific, but there were concerns over the state of his knees and whether he would be allowed to come to the NBA.  Which is why he went at the tail end of Round 1 instead of much higher up.

Also, I'm not sure how Patrick and Sabonis would fit together, and with a #5 pick you need to get a starter.

Ron Harper was dynamic before he blew out his knee and then found himself exiled to the Clippers.  Would have loved to have seen Harp with Ewing.

A Very Bradley not going to the Bubble.
Lakes might waive him and pick up JEarl Smith who has been out of NBA for two years.  JEarl might need to just clear up his blood chemicals a bit.

That hurts the Lakes, as Bradley was a defensive demon and fit well for them (he was starting during their run, I believe).  Means LBJ has to play more D and LAL has to rely on Rondo more.
