Tim was 1-7 with 3 fouls in the 1st half.
Looked lost and low energy.
Give him credit for bouncing back 2nd half (7-11 FG).

But with KZ out and Doncic minorly hobbled, they needed Tim needed and he was a 1st half no show.  Lucky Trey Burke was rock solid until Tim was ready.

Doncic continues to be a Bird/Magic hybrid.
Amazing stuff.
Bad ankle and he started the game with drives through and Euro-around defenders.
He also played pretty good D, staying in front of PG-13, and getting a couple of steals.

Hardaway 18 in second half -

Doncic truly amazing - hope he lasts

Agreed on all counts

Brett Brown axed.
Some talk that he babied Simmons too much.  Simmons apparently a family friend, and a franchise player.  Brown wanted Simmons to take one or two 3's a game, and Simmons basically refused.

You have to wonder why they gave a max contract to Tobias but not Butler.
Butler older, but a more skilled competitive player.  Better all-around, a leader, a closer.  Harris just a nice 3rd option.

While bringing in Horford didn't work at all.  Al and Joel couldn't share the court together.  Expensive mistake.  Maybe they can flip him for value(?)
I really liked the Josh Rich pick up, but of course he's no Butler.
And his impact was less than I expected.

Have to agree there

I have long championed Butler

PHI did get Richardson in that deal - though you could at this point (not when deal made) say SO WHAT.

There is still hope moving forward for Harris and their BIG THREE (plus Al), surely.

With Fultz, may have had something special.

Coach hire will be interesting.

With Fultz, their Big 3 would all be without 3-ability.
Not viable in today's NBA.

I still can't avoid this nagging sense, and I've had it for years now, that if you stay close to Houston you beat Houston.

Tough not having a Capela when protecting a lead.

And Harden gets worn down by all the effort all game.
And it's not like Dantmanbee is a great playcaller.

The same thing happened when Capela was there

True

Best defense is a good offense.

Time for Russ (Luka 1) to step up tomorrow.

Am I the only one who hates Doris Burke?
She over-emphasizes every point she makes a la Hubie Brown, as though it's super-important info.  Then she has an annoying habit of repeating herself and making the same point two or three times in a row.

For example, in one playoff game, she talked about the coach going deep into his rotation bringing in his 9th player of the half.  Then repeating, that he already has played 8 players already, and Player X was the 9th of the half.

Incessant over-announcing makes it all about her and making her presence known, more than the game.

If I knew these teams better, I would just turn off the sound and listen to the Charlie Parker Centennial birthday broadcast on WKCR.  Maybe I should anyway ...
One of the worst things about bubble play was that Doris Burke was able to announce two games in one day.

10 Pt early 4Q lead.
Smart pops in a pair of 3's.
Next BOS possession, FVV cheats over far to deter a Tatum drive, leaving Smart wide open.  Tatum hits open Smart, who fakes vanFred to fly by and pops a 3rd triple.

FVV has played good D, but that was awful.  You don't leave the hot hand for no reason.
