In addition to ignoring suicide and gun ownership evidence, Ward also wants to pretend that England, Australia, and Switzerland don't exist or cannot possibly be relevant to America.

This includes ignoring what they learned in England about eliminating ready access to big bottles of pills with regard to suicide.

Easy access to suicide methods increases usage of those methods.
If someone wants to commit suicide.

Yes, exactly.

Quote

Restricting ready access to suicide methods reduces suicide attempts.
No study ever made such a finding.[/quote]

You are again in error. England did exactly that with their change in how Paracetamol was sold. It had exactly the impact intended so long as the vendors heeded the law.

Switzerland's changes in their gun and ammo laws had a similar and more persistent effect.

Tell you what, Ward... let's try it. It is unlikely to increase the number of gun deaths, wouldn't you say?
Quote

It's simple.

It's clear.

And it is proven to rational people.
Except for the fact it is not proven.

The preferred method of suicide for women is pills, they overdose on pills.

Men use guns, but women prefer overdosing on pills.

Unless guns are readily available in the house, Tony.

THAT's the underlying issue that Ward is trying to bury and which you are missing.
Josh conflates the causes of suicide with the means.
He is totally at sea.

The only thing most assuredly fatal than a gun is the high rise (including gorges, bridges, etc) leap.

Almost every thing else gives one a chance to survive and have their cries for help heard.

Just stop this.

It is unbecoming, even for you.

Due to the certain impact of gun to head or gun to chest there is a high percentage that stop midstream and do not pull the trigger.  You need to factor this into what you believe to be irrefutable analysis.

Has the philosophic absurdity sunk in?  Mary Doe, in South Dakota, is carrying an embryo with a soul and full citizenship, but when she drives across the Minnesota border, it becomes an unsentient mass of tissue which may be surgically excised.

These are issues too large and too foundational to have the law change on them whenever you cross a border.  We need national legislation that sets a reasonable science-based definition of fetal viability and relevant legal rights, and protects a woman's right to made medical decisions based on her own conscience.

https://www.cnn.com/videos/politics/2022/05/03/susan-collins-montage-roe-v-wade-gorsuch-kavanaugh-the-lead-vpx.cnn

Collins says that if Gorsuch and Kavanaugh actually vote the way that leaked draft suggests that they will, it would be totally inconsistent with what they said in the hearings and in her office.

Face it, lady - if that is the case, then the "Honorable" justices Gorsuch and Kavanaugh lied to your face.

And you swallowed it.

I have a feeling it was one of those "wiggle room" chats, where they are saying they respect settled law and precedent, but couching their terms so they can add a "unless there is a compelling case to reject..." later on.  Leaves them room to become Trump deployed IEDs on the Big Bench without overtly telling a whopper.  Mark Twain would have had a field day with this kind of slickness.

Or it presented an opportunity for Senator Collins to burnish her abortion credentials knowing however nuanced those behind closed door chats were they will never see the light of day.

You have a source on that info or did you just pull it out of your ass, Hans?

Both, maybe.

I suspect the voters of Maine have been fooled once too often.

You would expect that if they were qualified lawyers or people with even a slight pretense of integrity.

I do not think it happened that way at all. I think they lied straight up, like Kavanaugh did about his history as a rapist.

Now This

4 minutes

People who are incarcerated in Bolivia will have a chance to get out earlier by reading books. Books Behind Bars is a new literacy initiative from the Bolivian government allowing enrollees to shave days or weeks off their jail time in a country managing a slow judicial system.

According to Reuters, the program has been launched in 47 facilities and has more than 800 participants so far. The goal of the program is to help people who are incarcerated improve their reading and writing skills in facilities that do not have the funds otherwise for education or social assistance programs.

------------

Many people are in jail because they are poor and ignorant and many do not have good parents to teach them how to be good citizens, and many do not know how to make money in honest ways, and many do not have healthy conflict resolution skills, etc. Educating the prisoners is an obvious plus for all concerned.

Some books that I would recommend for the prisoners are self help books by Carl Rogers, "On Becoming a Person" and other great books like that. And I would also give them books on how to do honest business, and they can have books on architecture so that they might get interested in building houses, etc. And they can have books to teach them how to become electricians, etc.

Salute,

Tony V.
