We go to sporting events to escape politics.

Bambu, the purpose of protests is to make you be confronted by other people's realities, because THEY CAN'T ESCAPE THEIR LIVES, even if you can escape needing to be aware of them.

Do you think somehow the athletes are not impacted by those? That their families are insulated from racism by virtue of the sport their relative plays?!

Dewey Defeats Truman in NYC?

The Democratic primary for mayor of New York City was thrown into a state of confusion Tuesday when election officials retracted their latest report on the vote count after realizing it had been corrupted by test data never cleared from a computer system.

The bungle was a black mark on New York City’s first major foray into ranked choice voting and seemed to confirm worries that the city’s Board of Elections, which is jointly run by Democrats and Republicans, was unprepared to implement the new system.

The disarray began as evening fell, when the board abruptly withdrew data it had released earlier in the day purporting to be a first round of results from the ranked choice system.

That data had indicated that Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, a former police captain who would be the city’s second Black mayor, had lost much of his lead and was ahead of former sanitation commissioner Kathryn Garcia by fewer than 16,000 votes.

Then the Board of Elections tweeted that it was aware of “a discrepancy” in its report on ranked choice voting results. It didn’t initially explain what that discrepancy was, even as it pulled the data from its website.

Just before 10:30 p.m. it released a statement saying that 135,000 ballot images it had put into its computer system for testing purposes had never been cleared.

A federal grand jury has indicted 60 people after an extensive wiretap investigation uncovered a vast methamphetamine distribution network based in San Diego, authorities said Tuesday.

The organization, tied to Mexico’s Sinaloa Cartel, is accused of supplying tons of meth to dozens of sub-distributors throughout the county as well as Arizona, Iowa, Hawaii, Kansas, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, Texas and internationally to Australia and New Zealand, according to federal prosecutors.

Over the past month, hundreds of law enforcement officers spread out across the county and five states to make arrests and serve search warrants. Forty-four defendants are in state or federal custody while 16 remain fugitives, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said in a news conference Tuesday.

Dubbed “Operation Crystal Hydra,” the year-long investigation by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and other agencies has resulted in the seizure of 220 pounds of meth, $250,000 in cash and 90 guns, ranging from modern to antique to homemade, officials said.
