Liberal lawmakers hope they can flip the right-wing narrative and argue that the legislative record shows the Democratic Party is in fact the fiercest ally of the police.

The Democrats are rolling out a counterintuitive new messaging strategy in anticipation of the 2022 elections: Republicans are defunding the police. It’s an attempt by Democrats to counter attacks from the GOP about being weak on law enforcement; liberal lawmakers hope they can flip the right-wing narrative and argue that the legislative record shows the Democratic Party is in fact the fiercest ally of the police.

Unfortunately this playbook is too cute by half to work well. In all likelihood it won't have the power to change minds. And by giving credence to what has always been a bad faith line of attack from the Republicans, it could make future internal debates over the scope of criminal justice reform all the more difficult...

...The notion that Democrats can wrest the pro-police mantle from Republicans is far-fetched. The contours of the debate right now have little to do with staffing levels during economic recessions or how much police officers’ lives are respected or honored as they navigate their very difficult jobs. In reality, the debate is about what role the police should play in our society and what communities they're meant to be protecting.

The heart of the matter is a racialized culture war over “law and order” — a reactionary concept with deep roots in American history that was popularized by Richard Nixon’s 1968 presidential run. Under the law-and-order ethos, aggressive policing represents a bulwark against social change and struggles for racial equality, and is seen as a way to deal with poverty and social dysfunction through imprisonment and surveillance. The law-and-order ethos was a critical tool in the Southern Strategy toolkit, an electoral strategy that sought to win over white voters in the South by appealing to racism against Black Americans.

State prosecutors shed new light Tuesday on CNN anchor Chris Cuomo's involvement in managing the response to the sexual harassment scandal surrounding his brother, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

Chris Cuomo was in the governor's inner circle as they developed talking points and strategies in late February as accusations threatened the three-term governor, according to emails and text messages made public by investigators for New York Attorney General Letitia James.

In May, Chris Cuomo admitted having had "inappropriate" strategy talks with his brother and vowed to steer clear of the network's coverage of the governor. Tuesday's report from the attorney general hinted at the depth of the strategy consultations.

According to the report:

In a Feb. 27 chain of messages to other Cuomo allies, political consultant Lis Smith wrote, "I don't love that part but Chris/Andrew wanted in" and "Chris wants to make sure we have enough contrition in here." Smith did not definitively identify "Chris" as being Chris Cuomo, but the messages align with other suggestions he is reported to have made about messaging.

Chris Cuomo was copied into a series of Feb. 27 emails from Gov. Cuomo's communications director, Peter Ajemian, and his chief of staff, Josh Vlasto, to other top aides mapping how they should delicately handle allegations by Charlotte Bennett. They seemed to agree that the best strategy would be to praise Bennett as a "hardworking and valued member of our team" while denying her allegations.

It also appeared that Chris Cuomo played a role in writing the overall response Gov. Cuomo issued on Feb. 28 as the sexual harassment allegations reached an apex.

A lot will depend on how so many prominent republicans behave as they are subjected to perp walks.

If they act like that trump advisor douche bag (and they will) who got bodily carted out of his place (and some will. Looking at you Matt Gaetz), it becomes a much easier case for Dems to make and much harder for GOP crooks to fend off.

The Bush Scott DeSantis legacy in Florida

A vote for a republican is a vote to be inundated with maggots.

If you want proof, look at Kidcarter8. He’s crawling with maggots.

It’s happening to Florida now, just on a slightly larger scale.

GOP Sen. Kevin Cramer (ND) calling for legislation to require states mandating vaccine passports to also implement voter ID.

The bill will “shine a light” on the hypocrisy of those who support vaccine passport mandates yet reject asking someone to present an ID to vote..
You can be sure that the dems will leave no hypocritical stone unturned in rejecting his idea.

Could be that is all he is intending.

Brilliant.

No, it has proven not to be, more's the pity.

But trying to prevent it has proven to be among those with a reactionary gene mutation.

https://www.cnn.com/2021/08/04/health/kaiser-poll-vaccines-aug4/index.html

https://www.kff.org/coronavirus-covid-19/poll-finding/kff-covid-19-vaccine-monitor-july-2021/

Don't confuse us with the facts:
Quote
Three in ten adults remain unvaccinated including one in ten who say they want to “wait and see” how the vaccine works for other people before getting vaccinated and 3% who say they will do so “only if required” (down from 6% in June). An additional 14% say they will “definitely not” get a vaccine, a share that has held relatively steady since December. One-fourth of unvaccinated adults (8% of all adults) say they are likely to get a vaccine before the end of 2021, including nearly half (45%) of those who say they want to “wait and see.”

Unvaccinated adults, especially those who say they will “definitely not” get a vaccine, are much less worried about the coronavirus, the Delta variant, and have less confidence in the safety and effectiveness of the vaccines compared to those who are vaccinated. Three-fourths of unvaccinated adults, including nine in ten of those who say they will “definitely not” get the vaccine, say they are “not worried” about getting seriously sick from the virus, less than half say they are worried about the Delta variant worsening the pandemic, more than half (including 75% of “definitely not”) say getting vaccinated is a bigger risk to their health than getting infected with coronavirus, and a quarter (just one in ten of “definitely not”) say the vaccines are effective at keeping vaccinated people from dying from COVID-19 or getting seriously ill.
...
Majorities of vaccinated adults say news of the variants has made them more likely to wear a mask in public (62%) or avoid large gatherings (61%), while fewer unvaccinated adults say the same (37% and 40%, respectively). However, one in five unvaccinated adults (22%) say news of variants has made them more likely to get vaccinated for COVID-19. This includes one-third (34%) of those who want to “wait and see,” but few (2%) of those who say they will “definitely not” get a vaccine say the news made them more likely to get vaccinated.

86% of Democrats say they have already received the vaccine.
54% of Republicans say they have already received the vaccine.

5% of Democrats say they will never get a vaccine for this.
20% of Republicans say they will never get a vaccine for this.

The only demographic worse overall than the GOP members are the uninsured under age 65.

Turner lost because of her ridiculous anti-democratic party stances during the primaries of 2016 and 2020. Also, stumping for Jill Stein in 2016 wasn’t overlooked.
