Inflation adjustment.

Social Security has announced 2022 benefits will rise almost 6% under its cost of living adjustment.
The biggest COLA since 1982.
Fucking Reagan.
Actually Carter.
The good news 40 years ago was Reagan slew the inflation dragon so the COLA adjustment had a long term effect.
The chances of a Biden Administration doing that are nil.
If 1982 is Carter, 2021 is Trump.

And inflation will slow when the supply chain broken by Trump's egregious mishandling of the COVID crisis is fixed.
The supply chain problem is a lack of workers.  All on Biden.

Supply chain got screwed because of Covid response. Everybody needed to work from home and many upgrade computers causing huge demand for chips which were diverted from cars. Demand for oil cratered as folks stopped commuting and traveling. Superstorms caused huge amounts of inventory losses as thousands of containers were lost in transit

Dont forget the blockage in the Suez Canal.
The economy opened up and oil production and refining had to ramp up from nearly nothing and got snarled because of big ass storms.

People are acting like assholes so workers are quitting those frontline jobs left and right. Even TSA workers are fed up and quitting in droves.

Again, superstorms disrupted the oil refineries. Then the major pipeline transit system got hacked.

Thumbs up for bringing some facts together fast.   And the glitches proliferate - like covid slowing the mining of rare earth elements in Asia (China,  esp) which also created a bottleneck in all the digital devices which use them.

Lots of dominos still falling.

Red has gone full troll.   All asshat and no cattle.

Part of the supply chain problem is that America is buying all imported goods, and our ports are backed up, all of the goods are getting stuck at the port. We have ships lined up in the ocean waiting to get into the port. So, now what we are going to do is we are going to expand the working hours of our ports to 24 hours per day 7 days per week. We need to open new ports as well. And there is a huge demand for truck drivers, we can hire Mexican truck drivers to help.

And the wages have been too low for workers. Right now the IATSE is ready to go on strike because of bad treatment and low wages for workers. Workers need better treatment and higher wages. And that is what unions are for, to fight for good pay and good treatment for workers.

So, we need to raise wages for workers, we need to expand working hours at ports and we need to build new ports, and we need to hire more truck drivers and we can use Mexican truck drivers.

We can also import Mexican products to fill our shelves with needed goods, the stores do not need to have empty shelves, the shelves can be stocked with products from Mexico and from Latin America, we can have Mexican toilet paper, etc. The Latinos would love to have their products on American store shelves. Americans have great buying power, the dollar is strong in Latin America.

Salute,

Tony V.

Is Mexican toilet paper soft?

*

Yes, exactly what happens when workers get paid peanuts, cheap labour is king, and *all* American manufacturing and other American jobs get sent overseas and outsourced in America to others.
There would be American truck drivers if the wages and conditions were better.

I see Americans living in communes soon...building their own housing, growing their own food, sharing the vehicles, buses for the kids to go to school...no need to ever venture out of 'Paradise".
More or less along the lines of housing estates in California long ago with a few twists...shown in Bachelor In Paradise starring Bob Hope and Lana Turner.

With the high murder rates in Chicago, we need to stop sending our new immigrants to Chicago, we are sending our new immigrants into poverty, violence, and death, when we send them to Chicago. It would be better to send them to peace in Nevada, there is Battle Mountain which has a full length run-way at their airport where Jumbo Jets can land, where it is only one thousand dollars per acre for land, you can buy ten acres for ten grand. And the immigrants can go to college in Elko, Nevada.

There is also Merced, California, which will have a station on the California High Speed Rail route. Merced would be a great place for the new immigrants. Merced has jobs, and the land is pretty cheap for California.

We need to stop sending our new immigrants to bad areas which have high crime. Our immigrants want peace and prosperity.

Salute,

Tony V.

Or stop new immigration altogether ...for at least a while, and cut it back a lot after that.
Work out who's who, what's what, take stock of everything and everyone.

Time to wall/fence off parts of Chicago...no one in or out until everyone is disarmed of weapons except the police.
Checkpoints after that, everyone leaving and entering searched.

From NPR "Is there really a truck driver shortage"

It's just simple math," Spencer says. "If every year there are an excess of over 400,000 brand-new drivers created, how could there possibly be a shortage?"

The real problem, Spencer says, is not a shortage but retention. According to the ATA's own statistics, the average annual turnover rate for long-haul truckers at big trucking companies has been greater than 90% for decades. That means, for example, if a company has 10 truckers, nine will be gone within a year or, equivalently, three of their driver positions will have to each be refilled three times in a single year because so many new drivers leave within a few months.

"We have millions of people who have been trained to be heavy-duty truck drivers who are currently not working as heavy-duty truck drivers because the entry-level jobs are terrible," says Steve Viscelli, a sociologist at the University of Pennsylvania who studies the trucking industry.

During a time when outsourcing and automation have eroded opportunities for blue-collar workers, millions of Americans have been enticed into giving driving a try. But, Viscelli says, the business practices of the big trucking companies burn them out fast.

Well there you go.

Govt can stop/fix all that...by regulation...and enforcement of those regulations.

Seems to me that most Americans don't like laws, enforcement of those laws...don't like rules, and enforcement of those rules...regulations, and enforcement of those regulations.....everywhere...on the roads, in traffic stops, in workplaces, in pandemics, in industry, in employment ...but rather like being free to do whatever they like...whenever they like, wherever they like........"freedom".

Bambu, when there is no toilet paper on the shelf, then you are very grateful to have Mexican toilet paper. And when the grocery store shelves are empty, then you are grateful to have Mexican products.

And in California we have wineries which are like communes, each winery is like a little Tribe. If I have a vineyard and winery in Tuscany I want everyone to feel like one big family, I am going to hire workers from the Philippines, from Catanduanes, and from Manila, and we will have giant dinner parties with live bands for the workers, etc. Whatever they need will be covered.

And we have Native American Indian tribes that are wealthy from casinos, etc.

By my Mother's house, there is a neighborhood that is completely empty now, it used to be full of busy businesses, and they need for new immigrants to move in and to breath new life into the neighborhood. They need to open a Hawaiian Barbecue restaurant, and they can sell Italian clothes, and the immigrants can find other ideas for businesses to open. The immigrants need to move in and fill up all of the empty shops and open all of the empty restaurants.

We are lucky to have the Mexicans, they are great neighbors.

Salute,

No, but we cannot send the immigrants into a meat grinder. They would be better off to pick strawberries in Merced. Or to go to college in Elko. Or raise cattle in Battle Mountain.

Everyone, including immigrants from anywhere have to have money to spend to keep "busy businesses" in America open/viable.
The businesses in America have to operate in buildings and premises of a certain standard...vermin free, proper electricals, pass health inspections, etc.
Running costs of any business in America can be substantial, ...rent, wages, utilities etc before one cent in profit is made.
Customers earn peanuts, only spend peanuts in businesses, businesses close.

So Joe goes full public/private with a deal to keep the ports cranking 24/7. That is how it is done.

Meanwhile the GOP is just spewing schtick to Red and his fellow shills who spread it like manure.

Bambu, my wealthiest friend would make every business succeed, she was awesome. She was from the Philippines. Maybe the Filipinos will move into the area and open the shops back up and the restaurants back up. The Mexicans are welcome too. My friend could easily open a successful Hawaiian Barbecue restaurant. She had a club named "Manila Gardens" in Los Angeles which was a very successful club. Everything she touched turned to gold. She was born wealthy, and she spent her whole life giving her money away. May she rest in peace, she was one of my heroes.

The key to success is to come from a place of abundance, and we can easily feed everyone on earth if we come from a place of abundance instead of letting them starve as we come from a place of scarcity. And you gotta be willing to give it that old college try no matter how old you get.
