Some people in Mexico, Central America, and South America are evil.
Best they aren't allowed into America.
This is one reason why very thorough investigating needs to be done of anyone from there wishing to migrate to America.
Massive immigration just for the sake of it is a totally flawed policy.
The Mexican border with the US should be sealed to keep evil from waltzing in.

First we have to ban all Australians pretending to peddle news.

That will let 9 out of 10 problems we have here take care of themselves.

https://www.cnn.com/2021/11/13/politics/pentagon-oklahoma-national-guard-vaccine-mandate/index.html

The Adjutant General of Oklahoma's National Guard apparently doesn't understand how the military works.

And saying "but if you are mobilized, then you must be vaccinated" kind of underscores the Pentagon's point - if they are not vaccinated in advance of possible deployment, then they are not mission ready.

Interesting article in Politico (tnx, FAC) by the American soap maker.   As Josh addressed,  so much corruption and fragmentation it is hard to imagine how they can competently draw together an inclusive government.  Afghanistan only ever worked as a half dozen balkanized units.

Sad to hear about the crop exports rotting at closed borders.   Maybe not the year to be exporting food of any kind.  Maybe we,  with the UN,  could deal with producers and pay them to distribute their crops locally.  Shorten supply chains in a land where longer supply chains are not feasible ATM.   If the Taliban are mostly starving too,  would they stand in the way?

If we do like the Bible says and if we feed the hungry, and help the fatherless, and if we help the poor and the needy, then we are going to make friends around the world instead of enemies.

We do not need to be afraid of Mexico, but instead we need to help them and strengthen our brotherhood with them. George W. Bush tried when he was President, but then 9/11 happened and the focus went to the Middle East.

And like when you are raising kids, you teach them when they are young, and then they grow up to be good adults, you do not neglect them and wait until they are a full grown criminal to teach them.

If we expand trade with Mexico, and if we help them, then the rewards will be great, and our brotherhood will be strong.

Ask white American Evangelicals who are leading the fight against vaccination...

Close to one-third of Republicans in the survey, or 30%, agreed with the statement that true American patriots may have to resort to violence in order to save our country. That was more than the combined total of Democrats and independents who say the same thing (at 11% and 17%, respectively).

Tony,

It is a trite and traditional thing to blame the parenting for the outcome of their children, but it's just not that simple.

Three adults find a wallet with a hundred dollars sitting on the sidewalk.

One of them takes the money and pockets it.

One of them picks up the wallet and returns it, in the hopes of a reward.

One of them picks it up and returns it, with no expectations of reward. Declines it when it is offered.

Siblings, raised by the same people. Had the same school teachers and same neighborhood.

Something was different and likely multiple somethings. But pretending we know what it was seems unwise.

"Good adults" are not only not solely because of "good parenting." Some "good adults" we get despite "bad parenting." Some "bad adults" we get despite "good parenting."

And there is a huge raft of grey area, as well. My wallet example doesn't even begin to look at the individuals' needs. Is somebody starving or in need of money for medical care? Is somebody wealthy? What makes one a "good adult?"

(I will grant that using information in the wallet to break in, tie up the owner, and loot the stuff is more likely t be a "bad adult.")

On the likelihood of political violence,  I found this  Jonathan Haidt interview illuminating.  Read to the section on what a polarization cycle is.

Republicans have spent the last twenty years ensuring that true American patriots have to use violence against them in order to save our country. If republicans are smart, they will fold their tents, abandon their false jihad, and save themselves from the waves of violence against headed their way.

At the Samuel French Theatre Bookstore on Sunset Blvd in Hollywood, the doorway is shaped like a keyhole, because books and an education is the key.

One thing that I noticed after having lived in both bad and good neighborhoods was the difference in the education level of the people. And a key from moving out of the bad neighborhood and into the good neighborhood was education and books.

In the bad neighborhood people used to smoke crack in my driveway, I would have to run them off. There was a dead body in my driveway one night when I came home from work. My neighbor abused his wife, I had to call the cops for fear of her safety. There were drug dealers, prostitutes, and the whole area looked run down and horrible.

In the good neighborhood I hung out with doctors, and lawyers, and actors, and with rock stars, and I had a job driving the rich people in a limousine. Our limo service also had private body guards, and private jets. And we were the official limousine service for the Jay Leno show.

Education is one of the major differences between the good neighborhood and the bad neighborhood, books and an education is the key.

And you would think that the crime might be high in the expensive area because everything costs more, but no, the people are educated and they know how to make money honestly. Once you know how to make money honestly then you do not need to break the law to make money.

There is also what Carl Rogers taught, in that one's thoughts, feelings, and behavior, need to be congruent for people to be happy, if you change how they think and feel, then you can change how they behave. So if an education and books can change how one thinks and feels then an education can change how one behaves.

In Malibu I had 2 children living in my house, one girl was 8 and the other girl was 15, and those girls studied hard. They knew that if they wanted to live in Malibu when they grew up that they needed a good education, and they planned on going to college. They also did charity work, and they made meals for the needy, and they were taught the importance of public service.

And in Colombia as we have spent more money educating the children then the crime has gone down. As you change how people think and feel then you can change how they behave.

Of note too, is that there does not always have to be a reward once one has evolved, there does not need to be constant positive stimulus to keep us going, knowledge and goodness are their own reward. And one keeps trying to do good even if there is no reward, or even when one is punished for doing good. Once people are good people then they are going to keep on being good people. Although circumstances may play a role.

And everyday the people in the poor neighborhoods study hard so that they can get an education so that they can move to a better neighborhood.

Educating the poor children is the best gift we can give them. Here at home, as well as in Mexico, and in Colombia, and elsewhere.

Salute,

Tony V.
