So, Kid... about COVID-19 and Omicron.

The doubling rate is 2-3 days in the number of infected. It was at 3% of the new cases on Wednesday, 13% in NY and NJ.

By Christmas, conservatively, it will be 25% of new cases - but not replacing the old ones. We will still be getting a ton of Delta cases - about 120,000 per day. It will decline, but not as fast as Omicron increases.

And even granting we are right about the lower severity of Omicron, on average enough more will get it that our hospitalization rates will rise, not drop.

Further, Pfizer's effectiveness against Omicron is not as high as you keep painting it to be, hence the need for getting a booster.

You understand you just advanced a good reason to mandate more vaccination, right?
More mandates that are illegal and cause a shortage of health workers?

And why is there a shortage of health care workers in the first place?  Because there are so many sick people, which results from high rates of covid infection, which in turn results from lack of public health mandates like universal vaccination.   Nothing in our legal system bars extraordinary measures to deal with contagious diseases.  That is how smallpox was eradicated.  (See my previous comment on when personal bodily autonomy gives way to demands  of serious public health threats)

Nothing in the legal system?
How is Brandon doing in the courts?

Not bad...

Oddly enough, the science disagrees with you, Kid.

The best scenario is in South Africa, where they report that the Omicron hospitalization rate is 29% of the other variants. However two other countries are not seeing the reduction that South Africa saw and the reasons for the discrepancy are unclear at this time - there are theories, but only theories.

Even if the rate is "only" 29% of the other variants, if tons more people catch it, then the hospitals will still be overwhelmed.

"The Dark Side Of California" is the headline in the YouTube video:
"The California Dream is DEAD".

Sad really.

Understood.  I think it was lack of confidence.  They thought they would end up with nothing AND an opposition party that painted them as obstructionist.

John Dickerson of 60 Minutes and Face the Nation has humorous bumper sticker style slogans for the US political parties:

For GOP  - Theyre for commies, were for mommies.

For Dems   -  Were for you, theyre for coup.
