You know, while it has its points, the Chamberlain comment can be used to simply argue against achievable diplomatic solutions. Not that this is what luee was proposing.
It was glib of me, yes. I just do not think some people realize how much Vlad wants to rebuild empire, line his and his oligarch pals pockets, and fuck the West six ways to Tuesday. The only thing that will rein him in will be massive sanctions, freezing international bank access, closing the pipelines, seizing foreign properties of the oligarchs, and turning Vlad s cyberwar right back on him (and hopefully, injecting some painful truths widely through Russian social media). Though I am usually more dove-ish, I think this is a situation where we cannot be civil or nice, because it wont stop at Ukraine, and there will be massive blood loss. When your opponent is playing chess, you cant decide that a checkers strategy will suffice.
