Funny that Kid didn't mention the psychiatric evaluation that had been ordered months before the Buffalo shooter was able to purchase a new rifle.  He had made threats against his high school.  And was able to buy a gun.

Yes.  And some still knew of his plans.  (Prosecute the parents?  Yep)

Letitia James and Kathy Hochul run this show in NY that allowed the gun purchase.

Sad duo.

The large magazine used on the assault rifle was purchased in another state.  They're illegal in NY State.  And as Larry noted, NY laws are crafted by a legislature.

The problem with not digging for facts is it results in shallow analysis.

One reason federal law matters in gun control is that bad actors often own cars.  So a patchwork of different laws in different states allows them to obtain mass killing equipment.

Really.

What's the NY law on buying a gun after being investigated as mentally disturbed following a death threat?  And what are Hochul and James about to do about it?

https://www.cnn.com/2022/05/17/us/buffalo-supermarket-shooting-tuesday/index.html

He did not threaten anybody specific and explained away his language as just saying stupid shit. He was believed and they released him.

What is it that you think they should do about it?

How would you change the law?
https://safeact.ny.gov/mental-health

And the fact that the state police visited his home and sent him in patient for an evaluation suggests that he would not have been put off by the police visiting him at the store in Buffalo.

IOW, Kid, you are a blaming asshole who has nothing to explain your claims about people knowing what the plan the Buffalo shooter had; nothing to suggest about how the law should be different to prevent the kid from driving across the border to buy the larger magazine, and zero to add to the discussion.

Go back to sleep.

In a 2007 abortion case, then-Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote: "While we find no reliable data to measure the phenomenon, it seems unexceptionable to conclude some women come to regret their choice. ... Severe depression and loss of esteem can follow." Those words prompted Diana Greene Foster to create the Turnaway Study, which compared long-term economic and health outcomes of women who had abortions with women who were denied abortions.

Newser and NPR contributed to my introductory paragraph.

Am giving up on getting across the federal law concept or the constitutional basis for it.  And apparently there is no way to really watch-list someone across all states for making lethal threats - easier for police and the shrinks they send in to dismiss it as just venting or whatever.  So that would leave us with (a) let the shooting sprees continue and consider it acceptable collateral damage for FREEDUMB!!!!! or (b) have real comprehensive federal gun control.  All that's needed is a SCOTUS decision that definitively clarifies what the 2nd amendment meant in 1790, and what can be applied to now.  That opens up legislation that is responsive to the 21st century where we have armies with advanced weaponry that citizens cannot personally own.

Ukrainian soldiers aren't fending off Russian tyranny with rifles.  Stingers, Javelins, drones, SAMs, etc.  are what are helping them.

But how would that update of sensible legislation happen where gun manufacturers keep politicians in their pockets and bankroll enormous campaigns of media saturation?  Where the makeup of SCOTUS is markedly to the  right of most Americans?
Really, we'd need to ban lobbyists from all levels of government, and set term limits for SCOTUS justices and reform campaign finance.

I saw a delivery driver today, he was driving for UPS, and he pulled up with the music playing, he had a sound system in his UPS truck, and he was dancing while he loaded the boxes onto the hand cart, he was enjoying his day. It is all about attitude. It can be a great day if you have a good attitude. And I think all of the delivery trucks should have sound systems for their drivers, I bet job enjoyment would go up.

Salute,

Tony V.

If you change the population, you dilute the political power of the people who live there. So, every time they import a new voter, I become disenfranchised as a current voter

Step by step!

Inch by inch!

The GOP is fucked.

How fucked?

The rightwing hate-o-sphere has revived the Michael Robinson Obama slander in a poor attempt to distract attention

You can go along way killing Black people in America. Buffalo will not be forgotten. Attica will not be forgotten. Greensboro will not be forgotten. Desalonde will not be forgotten. America should be thankful Black people are asking for justice and not revenge.

The first thing is to treat institutional conservatism like we did radical Islam after 9-11. They essentially amount to the same thing though institutional conservatism is a more real danger to the United States than radical Islam ever was. Organized networks of terror cannot be tolerated in a free pluralistic society.

Mandating that gun owners carry liability insurance and as part of the stiff penalties involved with insurance avoidance, seize the entire arsenal of any violator caught without insurance.

Gun deaths, racebaiting, violent misogyny, job loss, grifter theocracy, and climate death are all you hear offered by republicans. It is all they desire and it is all they can achieve.

Two current appointees refused to say if they thought Brown v. Board of Education was correctly decided.

Who can say what 3 others would conclude, should the case come to them now?
