Just as a mental exercise (painful as that may be for some of you), can anyone recall a sitting president who polled well during an inflationary period?

Better question.

What President backed a misnamed $2 trillion American Rescue Plan that led to a surge in inflation from which things only got worse?

Post hoc ergo propter hoc.   Led to is not the same as caused.
My statement is correct
No it is not.
Yes it is.
No it is not.
LOL

The latest Wall Street Journal poll puts the Biden inflation revord in perspective.

58% of voters say the economy has gotten worse over the past two years, whereas only 28% say it has gotten better, and nearly three in four say inflation is headed in the wrong direction. Those views were echoed in the survey by large majorities of independents, a group that helped deliver a Bidenvictory over Trump in the 2020 presidential race.

Which begs a big question.
Trump is under 4 indictments and less liked than Biden but polls show the 2024 race, if it is between these two , is a dead heat. How is that possible?

Meanwhile the GOP has alternatives.
The dems have none.

Nothing about clouded judgement but you eliminate the possibility of a senile puppet like sleepy joe or a deranged narcissist like the Donald running against each other. I am all for favorable legislation for the elderly. Many occupations have a mandatory retirement age for a reason. Should be one for the top office in the land?

---Too old to govern? The age problem neither US party wants to talk about---

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/sep/03/old-age-mcconnell-biden-trump-politics

The people govern. You are too old to govern. Do not vote.

Shrub was a dry drunk idiot who had less on the ball on his best day than Joe does in his worst hour of his worst day and young Georgie was that bad before he hit fifty five.

You are a shallow trifling little bitch, Luee.

There is actually more to it than the number of times you have ridden around the sun on this planet. How you spend your time has a greater influence than hours passed or remaining.

I am hoping for a full blown in house GOP civil war during the decade or so trump is in prison before he dies there.

10 percent of people will probably ride or die with trump and that is half the GOP more or less.

The ride or die with trump republicans and the try to regain some relevance for themselves in America republicans are among the two worst factions in America. It is much better to see them divided rather than united wherever possible.

Once trump is convicted and sentenced, the quarter of his followers who most love their children will immediately abandon him. His movement will shrink and grow dramatically less attractive and therefore less capable of growth.

I do not have a hypothesis. Nothing about the evidence I have cited is limited.  Every poll agrees and the latest WSJ one magnifies the voter mistrust of  Bidenomics. You offer no conflicting evidence.

No one knows that and the dems are betting just the opposite.
Then Biden will   be naked in defending his abysmal record against GOP alternatives.

You will be giving trump the nomination as the grey bars slam shut locking him away. There will be great rejoicing and a huge sweep for the Democrats. Society will continue to improve.

I enjoy watching you fall under the wheels of progress. It will get even more fun to watch once you start to get crushed.

Republicans are waging economic war on American brewers to limit the beer choices of Americans.

It is only because they hate freedom and have no idea how to have a good time.

Republicans also hate normal people having good jobs but the jobs they are killing is just a side benefit in the eyes of the republicans in this case.

Yes you do. You indicated that the inflation reduction act "led to" increased inflation. Since the rate.of inflation dropped since the act was passed, oil and i called out your attempt at a causal connection. You have provided no evidence to support that causal connection, and all the poll numbers in the world will not provide that evidence.

Probably because none of the arguments I have made have anything to do with polling. The Inflation Reduction Act preceeded a drop in inflation, and you still cite no economic indicator to support a claim of a bad economy. Because every other indicator is positive. You should read some portion of the WSJ other than the op ed page some time.

I do not think you mean what your first sentence says. Dark Brandon is pretty clearly betting on running against PO1135809. And he is proudly running on a very good record of solid accomplishments.

Red does not know that the price of his trump merch keeps going up to cover legal fees. He thinks it must be due to inflation. He feels the increase, he just does not understand it.

Ward is always going to yell SCOREBOARD!! when facts and logic are not on his side.

And as I pointed out earlier, and Ward ignored, a POTUS in times of inflation rarely polls well.  Polls are a measure of civic frustration not an analysis of economic forces.

PO11 and Joe are both too old in 2024, I'll agree with Luee on that.  I would not set an age ceiling as low as 65, though.  There is a point at which almost everyone has had an erosion of stamina and quick thinking that could hinder a national leader in a crisis.  Joe, at 80, is probably brushing his head on that ceiling.

If Democrats could find a Midwestern governor or similar moderate, say JB Pritzger minus the huge oil stock investments, they might do okay if Biden was willing to pass the torch.  He could retire with honor and dignity and the applause from those of us who appreciated his ability to not let the perfect be the enemy of the good when it comes to energy and green policy and social policy.
