11 years played in DC - exactly
They were a DC team - and won their 3 biggest titles there.
Nationals didn't start in DC either. Are they still a Montreal team?
Its OK - you didnt know the Grays were WASH when you made the initial comment - get over it.
I didn't even
consider the question, Kid, which
was a mistake. (You still can't admit yours, however.) Like I said, I compared the 3 MLB Washington franchises for their
winning pct., which led to my initial comment. The Nationals have the best winning pct of them. The Grays
probably had a better pct. for their years in DC, though I have found nothing that breaks out the DC games vs. the PA games. They kept playing in Pittsburgh for the last decade of their existence.
From 1940 until 1942, the Grays played half of their home games in Washington, D.C., while remaining in Pittsburgh for all other home stands.[1] As attendance at their games in the nation's capital grew, by 1943, the Grays were playing more than two-thirds of their home games in Washington.
ETA: I missed this quote when Banks posted it.
A bit of additional thought: The Washington Homestead Grays played ~62% of their home games in their last 11 years in DC. As noted, we don't know their record in those games, but I accept that it was likely better than even the current Nationals. The Grays at their best were an amazing team.
I also did not even think about:
The National Association Washington Olympics (1871–1872)
The National Association Washington Nationals (1872)
The National Association Washington Blue Legs (1873)
The National Association Washington Nationals (1875)
The Union Association Washington Nationals (1884)
The American Association Washington Nationals (1884)
The National League Washington Nationals (1886–1889)
The American Association Washington Statesmen (1891)
The National League Washington Senators (1892–1899) or
The United States Baseball League Washington Senators (1912)
Nor did I give a moment's thoughts to:
The Washington Black Senators
The Washington Olympics
The Washington Pilots or
The Washington Potomacs.
Nor, I suspect, did you.
But as it happens, Black or White, the current DC team is only the
second to sport a winning franchise record - all the other sucked for the bulk of their existence, even if they had a good year or two.
