Might be a nice debate between actual baseball historians.

Many of course thought the Grays and some others could play with the Yanks, Giants, Red Sox, Dodgers and Cardinals of their day.

As attendance at their games in the nation's capital grew, by 1943, the Grays were playing more than two-thirds of their home games in Washington.

Pretty much what I said

3 Negro League Series wins mostly played in Washington, where they are still the best team to have ever played/represented.

No it was not what you said and which I responded to.

Anyone reading your original post would have benn left with the incorrect impression that the Homestead Grays were a Washington DC based team.

they were founded and played in Homestead/Piitsburgh for almost the first 30 years of their existence and then played games in DC.

And it was on your original

Quote
HOMESTEAD GRAYS, dawg.

you were challenged.

Washington Homestead Grays.  Washington Grays.

What don't you understand?

Washington Homestead Grays.  Washington Grays.

What don't you understand?

Why you cannot admit you made a mistake.

"MOST in DC"

No, not "most in DC."

11 years in DC. 28 years not in DC.

What don't you understand?

Must be the same problem you have with "ask" vs. "beg." You struggle with English.

11 years played in DC - exactly

They were a DC team - and won their 3 biggest titles there.

Nationals didn't start in DC either.  Are they still a Montreal team?

Its OK - you didnt know the Grays were WASH when you made the initial comment - get over it.

kid you called them the Homestead Grays in your original post.

the Homestead Grays were a Pittsburgh-based team, and gained fame as a Pittsburgh based team.

That they played in DC for the last decade of their existence doesn't change the facts, no matter how you want to avoid admitting you were wrong.

Now get over it.

I didn't even consider the question, Kid, which was a mistake. (You still can't admit yours, however.) Like I said, I compared the 3 MLB Washington franchises for their winning pct., which led to my initial comment. The Nationals have the best winning pct of them. The Grays probably had a better pct. for their years in DC, though I have found nothing that breaks out the DC games vs. the PA games. They kept playing in Pittsburgh for the last decade of their existence.

Quote
From 1940 until 1942, the Grays played half of their home games in Washington, D.C., while remaining in Pittsburgh for all other home stands.[1] As attendance at their games in the nation's capital grew, by 1943, the Grays were playing more than two-thirds of their home games in Washington.
ETA: I missed this quote when Banks posted it.

A bit of additional thought: The Washington Homestead Grays played ~62% of their home games in their last 11 years in DC. As noted, we don't know their record in those games, but I accept that it was likely better than even the current Nationals. The Grays at their best were an amazing team.

I also did not even think about:
The National Association Washington Olympics (1871–1872)
The National Association Washington Nationals (1872)
The National Association Washington Blue Legs (1873)
The National Association Washington Nationals (1875)
The Union Association Washington Nationals (1884)
The American Association Washington Nationals (1884)
The National League Washington Nationals (1886–1889)
The American Association Washington Statesmen (1891)
The National League Washington Senators (1892–1899) or
The United States Baseball League Washington Senators (1912)

Nor did I give a moment's thoughts to:
The Washington Black Senators
The Washington Olympics
The Washington Pilots or
The Washington Potomacs.

Nor, I suspect, did you.

But as it happens, Black or White, the current DC team is only the second to sport a winning franchise record - all the other sucked for the bulk of their existence, even if they had a good year or two.

Jesus son of Joseph could we maybe discuss Eli Manning's Hall of Fame chances? Please? I mean, anything else?

Eli was a far better player than Charlie.

Tanaka v Greinke in the cold

In general I favor Astros pitching approach - though I picked the Yanks.

Tanaka out at 68 pitches in Game 1 was downright strange - but lets see if that benefits him tonight.

I wont even say its over if Yanks lose tonight.  Each game is so close in matchup that a 3-game run by either team is not  surprising.  Trend shows about 61% of game three winnners (at 1-1) get the series.

Mike Stanton -pick up the bat phone!

Neither starter has looked sharp thus far, for all that one of them has had more damage done against him than the other.

Go Houston!

3 games to 1, Houston leads. Can't rule the Yankees out, though. They've been known to win 3 in a row, after all.

But the Yankees fielding was so sloppy tonight! 4 errors and a couple other plays that could or should have been errorrs. They'll have to play far more solidly tomorrow to win, I would expect.

It ain't over til the fat lady gets seconds at the all you can eat buffet, and she's working on thirds.

Ys had better hope they get some old juiced balls pronto, because if you take the juice out of the baseball and resort to playing baseball, the Astros play baseball a lot better than the Yankees.

Balls get juiced when pitchers miss location.
