It would be pretty funny if Shildt won the Manager award after having been fired. I think it will be Kapler. In the AL, the Mariner's skipper would be my bet.

If somebody other than Ohtani wins the MVP I'd be surprised. Harper looks likely to win in the NL.

I'm thinking Ray and Burnes for Cy Young.

Franco would be my ROY bet. I have no opinion in the NL contest.

I wonder when and for whom the Manager of the Year and MVP awards will be named. It seems inevitable, though I could see them giving the two MVP awards different names.

Manager of the year should be named for one of two managers from baseball history.

John McGraw or Connie Mack.

But it won't be.

Why would you want to name an award celebrating managerial success named after a guy whose lifetime record was considerably under .500?

The problem with New York is that it's New York, according to Sandy Alderson.

Why wouldn't you want to name an award celebrating the manager with the most wins in MLB history, with a victory total of nearly 1,000 more than any other manager? What's wrong with a guy who managed his team into 8 World Series, winning 5 of them?

I know you're a glass 1/2 empty guy, though, so maybe that's your thinking.

Owning the team helped I guess.

Most managers only have the privilege of managing a couple of last-place teams.  If you're comfortable naming a managerial success award after a manager who finished last 17 times, who am I to argue?

Alderson said several candidates were unable to get permission from their current club to interview for the job, while others have declined because they are too comfortable personally or professionally where they are.

Well, if his teams were as well financed as the Yankees, which they never were, and he'd managed there, the award would have his name on it already.

But, you're right.

You aren't anyone to argue.

"Tanks for the Memories".

According to Scott Boras, the Braves love that song!

He has a point.

More, I think, than usual, one could field a high quality all star team just from the free agents. Or a World Series contender.

Okay, not quite, now that the two best FA catchers have signed. But really, there is an amazing amount of talent out there.

Using WAR stats instead of arbitration is proposed: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/11/mlb-proposes-replacing-arbitration-with-salaries-based-off-player-war-totals.html

Arbitration can lean a little more heavily than most modern teams do on traditional box score statistics like pitcher wins, saves, and hitters
